Legendary Awakening: Harem System In The Post-Apocalyptic World-Chapter 108: How
After Scar-face’s fall, only six Scavengers were alive.
When they heard Max’s words, their eyes widened in realization.
He was right, this wasn’t a good decision at all because when they fought him in a group, Max was spending most of his time evading or parrying their attacks, but now they had spread out, they had become easy pickings for him.
They instinctively wanted to form up again, but knowing it was already too late, they continued rushing away from him.
Max swept his gaze across them and saw that three of them were running toward the street exit, trying to escape unlike the other three.
Swoosh!
Ignoring the latter, he rushed after the escaping ones and within a few moments, he caught up with the one, who tried to turn around and slash his kitchen knife at him, but Max easily grabbed his hand and punched his neck.
Bang!
Crack!
The man’s vocal cord and tendons of his neck snapped. He clutched his neck and then fell to the ground, twitching.
Thud!
Max took his kitchen knife and continued the chase, catching up to the second guy, who didn’t even dare to look back and just gritted his teeth and continued sprinting.
However...
Slash!
Splat!
As Max passed by him, he swung the kitchen knife, slicing his head off.
Swoosh!
Da! Da! Da!
The third escapee was faster than the two because he was a level 6. When Max killed the second escapee, he was only a hundred meters away from the street exit.
Despite being out of breath, he pushed himself to the limit and increased his speed even more when he heard the sound of the second body thudding to the ground.
However...
Swoosh! Swoosh!
When he was still twenty meters away from the exit, he heard Max gaining on him.
Clang!
Without hesitation, he dropped the one handed metal axe he had been carrying until now, putting his all in rushing away.
Swoosh! Swoosh!
He, however, could feel him rapidly catching up to him.
Right when he was five or so meters away from the exit, his heart fell because Max had caught up to him and from his peripheral vision, he could see him raising the kitchen knife to attack him.
"Stay your hand!"
Suddenly, a loud, angry voice sounded. His eyes lit up with hope because the reinforcements had arrived.
Unfortunately for him, however...
Puchi!
The next moment, Max stabbed the knife through his neck. He didn’t even get to see his reinforcements before his vision blacked out.
Thud!
Max slowed down and came to a halt as the guy’s body fell to the ground.
Taking a breath, he looked ahead and saw twenty one men, all carrying different weapons, rushing over with murderous looks on their faces.
Max casually bent down, grabbed the hilt of a long knife stuck into the Scavenger’s neck and pulled it out, causing the blood to spray out.
Psssh!
"You bastard!" The Scavengers’ eyes blazed with fury, but they didn’t rush to attack. Instead, they evaluated him and swept their gazes through the street, seeing their companions’ corpses littering it.
Max also swept his gaze across them, the [Discerning Eyes] already active.
’Oh?’ His eyes flickered with a hint of surprise because out of these twenty one, ten were level six. Moreover, the rest were level five.
’So, the remaining 17 are even stronger?’
Tristen’s group was the weakest and were living out of the blocks, like watchdogs. The ones he killed were stronger and they were living in the 3rd block.
These people were from the 2nd block, and their average levels were higher.
From this pattern, it was only logical to guess that the remaining seventeen Scavengers living on the 1st block which was right next to the college were even stronger.
’But how?’ He thought, curious. From the way they fought, he could tell they weren’t martial artists. So, how they had become so strong?
Suddenly, a thought flashed in his mind and he asked, "Have you been drinking the ground water?"
Though he asked, he didn’t think the chances of his guess being right weren’t high because from the information he read at the mansion, only the Governor’s Mansion had access to the ground water.
When the city was being developed, there had been other taps throughout the city, but after the water pipelines were laid down, no one used them and they were slowly closed.
The moment he asked the question, he saw looks of surprise appear on everyone’s faces.
"How did you guess?" A short-haired, lean man, no older than 35, asked.
Max didn’t answer and instead fell in thought.
’So, even though the water is contaminated, as long as people aren’t sick or weak, they can grow stronger by drinking it?’ He wondered, but then he shook his head, ’If this is the case, why hasn’t the same happened to the mansion’s people?’
Though he hadn’t checked everyone’s levels, he had checked several people’s and most of them were level 2 and 3 and the strongest of the normal people, Henry, Jack and a few others were Level 5.
Only his uncles and his cousins were higher levelled, but that was because they practiced martial arts.
’Just what’s going on here?’ He thought, his brows furrowing slightly. He didn’t like the feeling of being clueless.
It was his city, or soon would be. So, he should know everything about it.
"Are you deaf?!" The short-haired man growled, angry that Max disregarded him.
Max looked at him and shook his head, "I am not. So, tell me, do you know the ground water is contaminated?" 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"What do you—"
A slightly older middle-aged man with some grey hair, raised his hand, stopping the short-haired man.
He then regarded Max with a pondering look on his face and asked, "How is it contaminated?"
"I don’t know," Max shrugged, "But it’s contaminated with radiation."
The man’s eyes flickered. Then, he nodded, "I understand."
’Hm?’ Max was surprised by this response. He could tell the man could tell he wasn’t lying, but he didn’t become concerned at all.
Noticing the change in Max’s expression, the man revealed a faint smile, seemingly understanding something.
"If you want information, why don’t you tell us who you are, who you are working for and for what reason you are killing our people?" He asked.
