Legacy Of The Extra-Chapter 33: Mazekin Dimitri Interlude
Chapter 33 - Mazekin Dimitri Interlude
"Winner, Applicant No. 75: Dimitri Novikov!"
Murmurs rippled through the stalls, echoing across the training grounds as my victory was declared.
"Did he really just defeat an experienced Mazekin?"
"How did he do that?"
"Why are there two of him in the arena?"
The murmurs and chatters of applicants who stood in the stalls echoed throughout the whole training grounds. Their reaction made it clear that they were confused about how I had won.
[Disperse] I muttered as the blade that I held against Raul's neck unravelled and merged with the shadow beneath my feet. My clone, or shade, followed suit, dispersing below my feet.
Raul turned to face me, onyx eyes widening. "What happened?"
"I won," I replied.
"No, I know that, but how?"
"Using my head," I said, not wanting to reveal my cards. It is important to stay unknown and unpredictable.
In the fight, I opted to use my shadow magic, which is known for its deceptive and stealth capabilities.
Not exactly a Knight's go-to route.
But using my lightning magic would've revealed my connection to the Blitzfeld. So I opted for shadows to defeat Raul.
Using two of my shadow spells—[Shadow Mark] and [Shade].
[Shadow Mark] allows me to mark the shadows of others by inflicting a slight touch on their body. It works on anything, be it human or object. Allowing me to distort and control their shadows.
It also has its limitations.
For now, I can only place very few shadow marks—Three to be exact. And the few abilities my Mana allows me to perform are [Shadow Step], which allows me to teleport and [Shadow Mold], which allows me to control the shadows of others.
It is Good for Now.
As for my second spell [Shade], it allows me to create an exact clone of myself or others. It is a good deceptive ability, but the downside is, if the person can properly sense internal energy or aura, then he can easily tell that it is a trick. Also, it takes time to cast one because it requires proper mental imagery.
When Raul was grazed by my shadow tendrill, I marked him, and then when he threw that fireball at me, I activated the spell [Veil of Nocturne], a defensive spell, which saved me from burning my skin.
The impact left a black smoke screen, which I used as a cover for creating an exact shade of myself, and then I teleported to Raul's shadow and patiently hid there to give him a good surprise.
Pretty simple, right?
"Fine, if you don't want to spill the fun," Raul said, extending his hand towards me, "I can't force you for information."
I nodded, extending my hand to meet his for a handshake.
"Congratulations on winning," He said, meeting my eye.
"Thank you for the duel. It was a valuable experience," I replied, holding his gaze.
It was indeed a valuable experience. The fight allowed me to gauge my current performance with my shadow element, which was satisfactory for a stealth build element. Meaning it is not good with upfront battles but rather battles of deception and trickery.
And This is my first fucking win ever since I came here!
My First Goddamn win!
Ever since I transmigrated into this world. All I was doing was getting beaten up either by my own father or by my half-sister. Then came the ironhide bear, and then under military training, Micheal would beat me up.
Well, let's leave the past in the ashes.
After saying my farewells to Raul, I made my way towards the referee. He was wearing a slick white shirt with formal black pants. His black was slid back giving him a more butler like look instead of a fucking referee.
"Sir," I called out to him.
"Yes?" He turned to meet my gaze. "What is it, Applicant Dimitri?"
"Can you perhaps tell me when the results will be announced?"
The referee looked at me for few seconds as if finding my question odd—which wasn't, or was it?
"Well, we have to evaluate each of the Applicant's performance so it will take...3-4 days minimum. Which is actually very less compared to the usual time."
"But don't worry. You are likely the only one to defeat a Mazekin here." The referee added.
"I see. Thank you for your time." Saying that, I walked away, making my way towards the exit of the training ground.
My work here is done.
I have no reason to stay here anymore.
[Your friends?] Dante probed.
'No need, and they are not my friends, only fellow applicants'
[Keep that way of thinking and you will end up as a loner]
'If I don't get stabbed in the back that way. Then so be it'
I picked up my pace, weaving through the stalls of the training ground, reaching for the exit.
'Croft, how much time do I have left?'
Croft informed me.
'Can you pinpoint her location?'
'Great, then I will be counting on you.'
A blue screen appeared on my screen detailing the map area of the whole town of Clinkton and the Blackthorne forest near it.
A green circle hovered over the screen, which covered a small part of the blackthorne forest.

Somewhere inside that circle, the bandits built their hideout.
I ran past the training ground's exit onto the streets of Clinkton. The white snow was still heavy on the roads, and my black boots were sinking inside them. Making moving around a bit sluggish.
But it did not matter.
[Storm Stride]
My body heat rose, and mana surged from within me, covering my whole body as purple lightning crackled around me. The air smelt of metal as I stepped a single foot forward.
And then, in an instant, the world around the edges of my eyes blurred.
As I moved, the cold air bit against my skin, but I pushed through.
Time was of the essence here, I had to reach them before her traumatic event occurred that turned her into a villainess. Who would—in the future—wreck havoc in the Elven kingdoms.
