Last Wizard King's SSS-Level Magic system in Modern World-Chapter 144: The excitement- Part 2
Chapter 144: 144: The excitement- Part 2
"Seriously? You don’t know about the upcoming academy tournament?"
Liam shook his head, waiting for an explanation.
The boy looked at him as if he had just admitted to living under a rock. Then, with a dramatic sigh, he took it upon himself to fill Liam in.
"Alright, listen up. Every year, the academy holds a massive tournament where students compete to showcase their magic skills. It’s a huge event because it’s when guilds come to scout new talent. If you impress them, you can get recruited, gain sponsorship, and have support for future growth."
Liam hummed in understanding, but he still didn’t see why everyone was making such a big fuss about it.
"That’s it?"
He asked, unimpressed.
The boy looked at him like he had just committed blasphemy.
"That’s it? Do you even realize how big of a deal this is? Getting recruited by a top guild means financial backing, access to elite training, and the chance to become an official adventurer before you even graduate. Not to mention the prestige that comes with it!"
Liam shrugged.
"Sounds like a lot of work."
The boy gasped, scandalized.
"A lot of—?! What kind of person doesn’t want to join a guild?!"
Liam smirked at the dramatic reaction.
"One who doesn’t want to be tied down."
The boy groaned and shook his head.
"You must be insane. Or incredibly strong. Maybe both."
Liam just chuckled at the assessment.
He had no intention of explaining his situation to a complete stranger, so he let the conversation shift as the boy continued to rant about the different guilds and their reputations.
From what Liam gathered, the guilds operated like powerful organizations, each with its own specialties and ranking system.
The most prestigious guilds had strict recruitment criteria and only accepted the best of the best. Those who made it into a top-tier guild were practically set for life.
Still, none of it particularly interested Liam.
"Anyway! Even if you’re not interested in joining a guild, you should still enter the tournament. It’s a good chance to test your abilities against strong opponents"
The boy said, adjusting his glasses again.
Liam hummed noncommittally.
The kid gave him a suspicious look.
"Wait... you’re not scared, are you?"
Liam laughed.
"You’re funny."
The boy frowned.
"I’m serious. A lot of people avoid the tournament because they’re afraid of losing in front of everyone."
"I’m not afraid of losing. I just don’t care."
Liam said simply.
The boy stared at him for a long moment before sighing in defeat.
"Fine, fine. I get it. You’re too cool to care."
Liam smirked but didn’t say anything.
"Well, whatever. The tournament starts in two weeks. You should at least come watch. You might change your mind"
The boy continued.
Liam doubted it, but he didn’t argue.
As the conversation died down, Liam turned his attention back to the crowd.
The students were still chatting excitedly, hyping themselves up for the tournament. Some were even practicing spells on the spot, eager to improve their chances of being noticed.
Liam watched for a moment, his eyes scanning the various magical displays. Despite his lack of interest, he had to admit that some of them had impressive abilities.
He felt Asger shift on his shoulder.
"Hey, human. You’re thinking about something, aren’t you? Whatever it is, I advise you to think about it once more. I don’t like it when you get that look in your eyes."
Liam glanced at his companion before looking away. Asger knew him well, so of course, the half-dragon was already aware of the mischief Liam could cause.
"Just wondering if I should participate or not. Just because I don’t want to join a guild, doesn’t mean I should not give it my all, right?"
Asger snorted.
"Didn’t you just say you don’t care?"
"I don’t. But it might be fun."
Liam paused, then smirked.
Asger rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, right. You just want to make some guild masters cry, don’t you?"
Liam chuckled.
"Maybe."
The truth was, he didn’t particularly care about being recruited by a guild. But there was something intriguing about the idea of facing strong opponents.
Maybe, just maybe, he’d give it a shot.
For now, though, he’d keep that thought to himself.
The boy beside him stood up and stretched.
"Well, I should get going. See you around... uh, what’s your name?"
Liam considered ignoring the question, but then he shrugged.
"Liam."
The boy grinned.
"Nice to meet you, Liam. I’m Felix."
With that, Felix disappeared into the crowd, leaving Liam alone with his thoughts.
Liam exhaled and stood up as well, stretching his arms. He had a feeling that things were going to get more interesting in the coming weeks.
And for the first time in a while, he didn’t mind that idea.
Liam was left alone after Felix left, and with all the excitement still buzzing in the air, he found himself growing increasingly bored.
The way everyone kept talking about the tournament, practically vibrating with energy, was starting to get on his nerves.
He didn’t see the big deal—sure, guilds were important, but did they have to act like this was a life-or-death situation?
Sighing, he glanced toward the academy building, debating whether he should just head to class early.
He figured that if he sat there long enough, someone would eventually come around and tell these kids to calm down.
And if no one did, well... he’d have to tolerate the chaos for a little longer.
Fortunately, his prayers were answered when a sharp, authoritative voice cut through the noise.
"Alright, enough of this! Everyone start heading to your classrooms!"
Liam turned his head and saw Bianca striding into the middle of the crowd. As a prefect, it was her job to keep order, and right now, she looked like she had just about run out of patience.
The students groaned in unison, their excitement dimming slightly at her arrival.
Some of them started to shuffle toward the building, but a few more rebellious ones stood their ground.
