Chapter 106: 106: Being found out- Part 2

Liam gritted his teeth.

"I swear, I’ll do everything in my power to avoid that man,"

He muttered under his breath. But even Liam knew that it was a tall order to follow. Victor was too much of a causality to be controlled.

Asger, wrapped around his neck, flicked his tongue out.

"You’d better. I don’t like his smell."

Once Victor was gone, the suffocating tension eased, but a new kind of trouble brewed.

Now that Elder Erin was no longer occupied, students began approaching him once more.

They swarmed forward, eager to grab his attention, but this time, the elder turned them all down.

"I’m busy right now. Liam, follow me. I will show you a place I promised to show you."

Elder Erin said simply, raising a hand to silence them.

The moment those words left his mouth, Liam felt every pair of eyes in the area land on him.

For the second time today, he became the center of attention—only this time, it wasn’t because of Victor.

The students were not happy.

Murmurs and scowls spread through the crowd.

Why is he so special?

Why is Elder Erin favoring an outsider?

Is he some noble’s son?

The hostility was palpable.

Even without hearing their words, Liam could feel their resentment in the way their gazes bore into him.

His shoulders tensed involuntarily, but he kept his expression neutral.

Elder Erin must have noticed because, without turning back, he spoke casually.

"Don’t mind them, Liam. Pay no attention to what others are doing."

Liam clenched his jaw.

Easier said than done.

His instincts told him otherwise.

He had learned to survive by paying attention to those around him, by noticing even the smallest shifts in emotions, because ignorance meant death.

Elder Erin might be the strongest magician in the academy, but Liam wouldn’t be under his protection forever.

And these students?

They weren’t his allies.

They saw him as a threat.

Liam decided that for now, he would keep his head low. If there was anything he learned from living in dangerous environments, it was that people often feared what they didn’t understand.

And right now?

Liam was an unknown variable.

The students didn’t know where he came from, what his magic was, or why the most powerful elder in the academy had taken an interest in him.

That made him a target.

But Liam wasn’t foolish enough to challenge the entire academy head-on.

Instead, he would observe.

’I need to figure out who’s dangerous and who isn’t. Which students will be trouble? Who holds the most influence here? Who should I avoid at all costs?’

"Liam?"

Elder Erin’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts.

Liam quickly followed the elder, ignoring the heavy gazes burning into his back.

As they walked through the academy grounds, Liam noticed how vast the place truly was.

The magic academy was massive.

Ancient stone buildings stood tall, each radiating unique magical energy. Some were towers that pierced the sky, while others were sprawling structures connected by floating bridges.

The air itself buzzed with raw mana.

It wasn’t just a school.

It was a fortress.

A place built to house and train some of the strongest magicians in the world.

And he was now walking right into the heart of it.

Liam wasn’t sure if he should feel excited or terrified.

Asger, still curled around his shoulders, huffed.

"So, what now? Are we going to be tested or something?"

Elder Erin smirked.

"That depends."

Liam narrowed his eyes.

"Depends on what?"

The elder chuckled, leading him toward a grand building with towering doors engraved with intricate magical symbols.

"Depends on how much you can handle."

He said, pushing open the heavy doors.

The moment they stepped inside, Liam’s breath hitched.

Inside the building was a coliseum.

Rows of seats stretched upward, forming a massive circular arena.

At the center was a battlefield.

And standing on that battlefield were three instructors dressed in black robes, each radiating powerful magic.

Liam instantly recognized the pressure they exuded.

These weren’t ordinary magicians.

They were elites.

His eyes darted to Elder Erin. ƒrēenovelkiss.com

"You brought me here to fight?"

Elder Erin smiled knowingly.

"You want to learn magic, don’t you? Even if you say you don’t, there is no point in hiding. Being in the academy would give you the much-needed protection and skills that you need."

Ideally, Liam wanted nothing to do with the academy. He had a better system for learning and such.

But thinking again, it won’t be a bad idea to make the academy his scapegoat for learning magic and mastering it. It would give him a legal reason about knowing magic at least.

Elder Erin took his silence as agreement and decided to follow through on his offer.

"This is Liam. He’ll be joining our academy soon, so I’d like to see what he’s capable of"

He introduced.

One of the instructors, a tall man with silver hair and piercing blue eyes, eyed Liam critically.

"He doesn’t look like much."

Another instructor, a woman with dark skin and glowing golden tattoos, smirked.

"Looks can be deceiving."

The third, a stocky man with a serious expression, simply nodded.

"We’ll test him."

Liam exhaled slowly.

Great. Just great.

He had barely entered the academy, and he was already being thrown into a trial by combat.

Asger chuckled, his tail flicking.

"I like this. It’ll be fun."

Liam rolled his eyes.

"You’re not the one fighting."

The half-dragon grinned.

"No, but I get to watch you struggle."

Liam sighed.

This was going to be a long day.

The three instructors stood in a loose semicircle around Liam, their expressions ranging from curiosity to skepticism. Elder Erin watched from the sidelines, arms crossed, silently observing.

Liam felt their piercing gazes as they debated where to start his evaluation.

The tall instructor with silver hair, Professor Aldric, frowned.

"We don’t even know his level."

The woman with golden tattoos, Professor Elara, tilted her head.

"That’s true. If we test him too high, we might injure him. Too low, and we learn nothing."

The stocky man, Professor Dain, exhaled.

"Then we start small. We test his resistance first."

The three instructors exchanged nods, then turned toward Liam.

"We will cast a few assessment spells. These will help determine your mana capacity, magical resistance, and potential."

Aldric explained.
