Last Divinity: The Advent Of Dreams-Chapter 60:Power Of The Nuclear Bomb
Explosions occured beneath their feet sending tons of sand through the air. Waves spread out burning the soldiers to ashes.
Each landmine was packed to the brim with mana enhanced gun powder and had the power of a rank 2 spell.
Most of Blackstone's army was made up of squires with around a dozen Initiate. 2 000 strong.
Yet it only had 48 rank 2 which included three acolytes, the only second rank mages in his army.
While most of the rank 2 warrior and mages managed to save their lives at a cost, the rest of the army was not so lucky.
Blackstone watched all of it happen with a blank face, it was a crushing defeat before he even saw the enemy.
He wondered how this happened, what kind of spell it was. He could sense mana through the explosion.
However the mana was not only little, not even enough to be used for a rank 1 spell it also felt passive.
Dormant like the mana one would find in a mana stone. A suspicion occured in his head but he dared not say it outloud.
The methods of their enemies were incomprehensible to him, he didn't even know what he would report to the emperor.
His house was also ruined, this was more than 70 percent of his family's army and now they were dead.
When the dust cleared the results showed and as he had expected, most of his army was dead.
Their burnt corpses littered the steaming craters that covered the ground for a few kilometres around him.
However somehow some of the rank 1 soldiers survived, especially the Initiate with their protective spells.
If the two thousand soldiers, only around one hundred remained. Blackstone felt as if his heart was being stabbed.
The metal bird they called a drone returned and the girl appeared again with a teasing smile.
" Unfortunately my superior told me to spare your remaining soldiers." She sounded disappointed.
" So I'll give you another chance, lay down your weapons and surrender." Blackstone gritted his teeth.
" I will never surrender to cowards such as you, face us like true warriors and stop hiding behind your spells."
He shouted, Viona looked at him with confusion then busted out laughing.
" You're a funny man Blackstone, stupid but funny. You're an old man over 200 years old telling a little girl she's a coward after defeating you, quite pathetic isn't it."
Her words caught him off guard but most of all caught Khali off guard, knowing her temper he thought she would flip at being called a coward and challenge Blackstone directly.
Blackstone had nothing else to say, he thought about her offer then shook his head, while whatever they had used was powerful and tricky.
It couldn't threaten him, he grinned. He would run back to report to the emperor, he knew that would lead to the death of his soldiers.
But soldiers were meant to die, it was their honour. He didn't respond to Viona but turned around and bolted.
As a warrior his running speed was faster than his flying speed since he had better control of his body than control over his mana.
His remaining soldiers despaired as they watched their leader abandon them. Viona sighed with pity.
However everybody could see the excitement in her eyes. The air exploded as Blackstone broke the sound barrier.
Viona's fingers hovered over acres button, her own people pressed buttons and tracked Blackstone through satellites.
She pushed her key inside, turned it and something clicked. Red alarms went off then turned grim.
This was the nuclear codes key, only her and Khali had them. After punching in the nuclear codes she pressed the red button.
The glass dome opened its roof somewhere and two missiles as tall as 14 metres shot out.
The air exploded leaving massive sonic booms in their wake. In only a few seconds they reached hypersonic speeds.
Hypersonic missiles, they left streaks of red through the air chasing after Blackstone.
The distance was a bit far giving Blackstone a huge headstart. Naturally he reached the imperial army first.
By reach he meant reach within 20 kilometres of the army. The imperial army saw him running with all of his might.
They wondered what terrified him so much then behind him they saw two streaks cutting through the air.
The emperor stood up, "What is that?" He asked, before anybody could answer the world turned white.
After the blinding flash a shockwave followed. The adept next to the emperor cast barriers.
The barriers managed to block the shockwave, saving the imperial army. Then they watched as flames rolled out.
A giant mushroom cloud rose to the sky, they all stood their frozen. Achieving such a level of power was bit impossible for adepts.
What confused them was that they couldn't sense any mana from it. A spell of this level would require a tremendous amount of mana.
That's on top of the fact that they couldn't see a mage who cast the spell, the mage themselves could not be too far.
Otherwise the mana would disperse and the spell would not work. There was a limit to how far a spell could go.
All of them waited with bated breaths to see if Blackstone would survive even though they doubted it.
As mentioned before, a spell of that level would require a lot of mana and preparation meaning a long and powerful chant.
It was the last resort type of spell, even they doubted they could survive it without preparations.
The dust cleared and before them sat a gigantic crater over two kilometres wide, everything in a 10 kilometres radius of the crater was incinerated.
Yet no matter how hard they tried the mages couldn't even sense residual mana of the spell.
Which meant this might not be a spell but that thought was terrifying. From Merlin they
learnt these people can create incredible things that don't involve magic.
If this was one of them then they were more terrifying than the empire gave them credit for.
Now only a single thought ran through their minds. Can they use this again and if yes, how many times.
While they were contemplating they saw a metal bird flying towards them. Everybody tensed.
