Laid-Back Life in Tokyo: I Really Didn't Want to Work Hard-Chapter 928 - 543: An Unforgettable Christmas
Outside, a thick layer of snow had already piled up across the street.
Uesugi Sakura still remembered standing in the same spot last year, watching the snowflakes fall.
Back then, when little Hanabi heard about the Christmas date, her face was filled with shyness and blush.
Sakura still remembered her voice being bashful at that time, yet there was a hint of expectation in her heart.
"Sakura-kun, where are we going today?"
"Where to? Honestly, I haven’t decided yet."
"Then think quickly, Sakura-kun!"
"Honestly, I can’t think of anything..." Sakura said, turning back to glance at the living room while drying his hands in the basin, "How about we go for a walk now?"
"Go for a walk? Where to? It won’t be too far, will it?"
"Just to the Kanda River in front of our house, for a stroll."
"Just the two of us?"
"Yes, just the two of us, and later we can go out with Yuuki and the others." Sakura reached out his hand to her.
"Alright..." Hanamaru Hanabi nodded lightly beside him, extending her little hand gently into his palm.
The banks of the Kanda River were lined with Sakura trees, but now they bore no blossoms or leaves, only patches of snow fallen upon the thick branches.
The grass under the trees was covered with snow, and as far as the eye could see, everything was white except for the central flow of the river.
Sakura accompanied Hanamaru Hanabi, dressed in a down jacket, wrapped in a plush scarf, and wearing a beret as they walked along the riverbank path.
White mist came from their breath, cold air filled their nostrils, and snowflakes appeared before them.
Propelled by the wind, the falling snowflakes danced along unpredictable paths, filling the transparent sky with brilliant colors.
Hanabi slightly tilted her face upward, her violet eyes reflecting the beautiful scene in the sky.
"The Kanda River used to be just a small place, sometimes only a few people would come to see the sakura, but now... actually, sometimes the beauty of life is captured in these little ordinary moments." Sakura smiled as he looked at her glowing side profile, which faced skyward.
"Actually, Hanabi thinks the most important thing isn’t the scenic beauty at all..."
"It’s the person?"
"Yes, it’s the person, the most important thing is being with the one you love. The scenery is just an accompaniment, when you’re with someone you love, even a fish in the river makes you immensely happy..."
Sakura felt the warmth she conveyed to his hand and laughed, "It’s not just that, seeing these familiar places and sceneries reminds me of walking together with Hanabi-chan, rather than how beautiful this place is."
Hanamaru Hanabi smiled softly:
"In the past, Sakura-kun was always walking beside Hanabi, his role kept transforming, from a good friend to a brother, then to lovers, and now, we are husband and wife... Hanabi remembers so many details, even his comforting demeanor."
"Sakura-kun, Hanabi makes mistakes... still fondly remembers the Sakura-kun who was always supporting Hanabi, regardless of how disliked she was, no matter how unattractive, Sakura-kun always showed concern for her."
"Is Hanabi’s statement a way of saying she forgives me?"
"Dummy..." Hanabi’s lips parted slightly, her voice sweet and soft, "Sakura-kun really is a dummy, if Hanabi hadn’t forgiven you... she wouldn’t have let you see her, nor would she have run to find you that day."
"And... what about that one percent?"
Hanamaru Hanabi raised her finger on the other hand and smiled as she told him, "Hanabi wants to keep it."
"To remind me, right?" Sakura laughed too.
"As long as Sakura-kun knows!"
Walking past the Kanda River, through a secluded and quiet path, Sakura took her for a stroll around Higo Hosokawa’s garden park, and then to the park’s children’s facilities for a swing ride.
Sakura pushed her petite back from behind, listening to her ethereal laughter, despite the snowing outside, his heart remained warm.
"Hanabi-chan, let me carry you back."
"Why suddenly carry me?"
"To relive childhood, come quickly, hop on."
Sakura squatted down, urging Hanamaru Hanabi twice, her face blushing adorably, she quickly wrapped her arms around his neck.
Sakura lifted her thighs from both sides.
"Alright, here we go~~!"
"Oh, you’re awful! Sakura-kun’s words make Hanabi sound heavy!"
"Haha, Hanabi is indeed a bit heavier than before." Sakura chuckled, talking to the girl behind him, "I do hope you eat more, eat a little more, then accompany me for morning runs, and not get sick so easily."
Suddenly, Hanamaru Hanabi pressed her face against his firm back, "Sakura-kun... Why are you so nice to Hanabi?"
"Because you’re my wife... Why shouldn’t I be good to you? Besides, relatively speaking, Hanabi treats me much better."
"Does Sakura-kun think love will disappear?"
"It will, but not my love for you."
"Hanabi remembers every promise Sakura-kun made to Hanabi, and hopes you won’t forget them in the future."
"Of course, I won’t."
Through the snowflakes, Sakura looked towards the road ahead, "So, Hanabi-chan, where do you want to go for Christmas?"
Hanamaru Hanabi tightened her grip on his arm, her sweet voice laden with a small hope: "Skytree Tower... Hanabi wants to see all of Tokyo’s snowy scenery!" 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"Okay, let’s go there then, but before that, we need to head home first, how about we run back?"
"Anyway, Sakura-kun is carrying Hanabi, whatever Sakura-kun wants."
"Alright then~~ hold on tight! Let’s go home!"
