Laid-Back Life in Tokyo: I Really Didn't Want to Work Hard-Chapter 776 - 464: An Uninvited Guest at Tokyo Art University, Uesugi Sakura
"Sakura-kun...?"
From the moment Uesugi Sakura appeared to when he sat down next to her, Hanamaru Hanabi wore a puzzled expression.
"What is Sakura-kun doing here?"
"Well, I’m here for class, of course." Uesugi Sakura glanced at the middle-aged professor in front, then turned back to the girl beside him and said.
Hanamaru Hanabi blinked at him, her violet eyes seeming to glimmer with suspicion.
Uesugi Sakura also blinked at her and, with a smile, retorted, "What, you don’t believe me?"
"Um..." Hanamaru Hanabi nodded as a matter of fact, "Besides, at school, students from other universities who sit in on classes get kicked out by the teachers."
Kitagawa Sakisa seized the opportunity to interject, pointing at the middle-aged professor above, "I can vouch for that, it’s true, and it was that teacher! That guy was in for it; he was all grins, claiming he was there to accompany his girlfriend, but Teacher Ebitani chased him out, making him apologize repeatedly from the door!"
"Really?" Uesugi Sakura said skeptically.
"Of course!"
Uesugi Sakura eyed the teacher’s appearance—a high nose, square face, left-parted hair—giving off an immediate impression of a high-ranking politician.
Just from his appearance alone, what Kitagawa Sakisa said seemed plausible.
Yet Uesugi Sakura showed no concern whatsoever.
"It’s okay, I’m not afraid of being kicked out."
"Are you so brave, Uesugi?" Kitagawa Sakisa asked in surprise, "Besides, coming to Tokyo Art University to see Hanabi isn’t something you’d do during a sketching class." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Uesugi Sakura only responded to her words with a faint smile.
He shook his head, took out an IC card from his pocket, and handed it to the equally puzzled Hanamaru Hanabi in front of him.
She didn’t understand why Sakura-kun would come here during class time.
Hanamaru Hanabi took the IC card Uesugi Sakura handed over and examined it closely in her hands.
"What is it?" Kitagawa Sakisa couldn’t contain her curiosity, got up from her seat, and peeked over Hanamaru Hanabi’s shoulder to look at the IC card in her hand.
"Tokyo Art University," Kitagawa Sakisa read aloud the line of text on the IC card’s title, then continued reading the next three characters, "Student ID."
"Student ID!?" Understanding the meaning of these words, Kitagawa Sakisa looked stunned.
"Why does Sakura-kun have a student ID for Tokyo Art University...?"
Hanamaru Hanabi took another look under the title of the IC card and found that the photo on it was indeed Uesugi Sakura’s ID photo.
Still unconvinced, she took out her Tokyo University student ID for comparison.
Hers and Uesugi Sakura’s.
Exactly the same!
"Now do you believe it?" Uesugi Sakura said with a smile, taking back the IC card from Hanamaru Hanabi’s hand and putting it in the inner pocket of his coat.
"Sakura-kun... are you really taking classes at Tokyo Art University?" Hanamaru Hanabi laid her small hands flat on her lap.
"Yes." Uesugi Sakura looked at her slightly reddened face and extended a finger, "Strictly speaking, I’m considered an exchange student."
"What a lie!" Kitagawa Sakisa sat back in her seat, arms crossed, "Since when do schools so close to each other, especially in different majors, have exchange students? Tokyo University and Tokyo Art University don’t have any exchange students! You must have done something, right?"
Uesugi Sakura instinctively glanced at Kyujuu Rika sitting quietly not far away, then said to Kitagawa Sakisa:
"There is, but I did come through normal channels as an exchange student."
Just as Kitagawa Sakisa was about to say something, Professor Ebitani clapped his hands in the middle of the classroom, signaling everyone to look at him.
With his right hand in a fist, he coughed lightly at his mouth and said:
"Ahem, today we will continue from where we left off last time."
The projector behind the professor started showing a series of ancient representative works.
"The Renaissance and the liberation of individuality, ah, the Renaissance, when it comes to the human body, we must start with Ancient Greece, the first peak of human aesthetics was in the Greek and Roman era, at that time, the aesthetics of the human body had achieved quite a high degree, although only in the three-dimensional space, mainly in sculpture."
The images shifted quickly from murals, sculptures, to a series of classical Western art pieces.
"During the Renaissance, the ability to express human body aesthetics had leaped from three-dimensional space to flat space, which was a tremendous advancement..."
As the professor began his lecture, Kitagawa Sakisa saw no further need to speak with Uesugi Sakura and quietly listened to the lesson.
Hanamaru Hanabi did the same, burying her little head behind the drawing board, quietly whispering to Uesugi Sakura on the other side, "Sakura-kun... let’s talk after class."
"Okay." Uesugi Sakura agreed with a kind smile towards the girl.
Professor Ebitani switched the projection image, and a painting of a naked woman covering half of her chest appeared on the screen behind him.
It was Botticelli’s famous painting "The Birth of Venus."
"The Renaissance highlighted the beauty of sculpture, which manifested on the plane rather than just in a simple manner as before. Artists of that time could present the complex structure of the human body and portray more intricate scenes..."
It seemed Professor Ebitani was not teaching painting techniques, but rather discussing the development of art history and the special painting techniques and methods of the Renaissance period.
How people of that time used paintings to express beauty, and how they transitioned from flat images to presenting a delicate sense of three-dimensionality...
