Lady Meilin is seduced by her green tea brother-in-law everyday-Chapter 409: The worried eunuChapter
The subject of Junjie’s romance had been on her mind since she discovered that the young lady had slept at the castle. It was not even half a year since the Empress died, he was expected to be in mourning.
He was allowed to smile, go to fun places, carry out his political duties and live his life. What he was not allowed to do was engage in a romantic relationship, not publicly anyway.
Showing up to places with Zhenzhen was scandalous. Not only would people frown but they would begin speculating about the real cause of the death of the former Empress.
Junjie was smart and he ought to know this.
"Are you worried that people will think I killed her to make room for Zhenzhen?" he asked her.
She nodded.
He ate a green grape, looking unbothered.
The behavior made Mei Mei wonder if he already had a plan to deal with the gossip or simply didn’t care about the consequences of his actions. And the rest of the royal family, what were they thinking through all this?
"The eunuch is panicking before the Emperor." Junjie mumbled.
She raised her hand and pinched his ear. "Who are you calling a eunuch you ugly man?"
Junjie’s hand shot out and he pinched her ear as well. "Who are you calling ugly you shrewish woman?"
Mei Mei gasped. Her second hand reacted before her brain and she pinched his other ears. He did the same and they reached a deadlock. Both pulling the tips of each other’s ears, nostrils flared, eyes issuing a challenge and lips shouting "let go."
It was a familiar scene, one that the royal agents and attendants that had served Junjie since childhood had seen before. As children, despite being close, Junjie and Mei Mei had fought like this a lot.
Whenever they started, it would take physical intervention to pull them apart as none was willing to lose. At times, they would butt heads and push each other back and forth, like sumo fighters in a ring. One time, they ended up rolling down a hill and yet when they reached the bottom, they were still pulling each other’s ears.
This had happened at the Empress dowager’s tea party. They were found with scrapes and Junjie had a blood nose. And yet, Mei Mei was crying the loudest and claiming her nose was bleeding.
There had been some confusion before royal attendants tore them apart.
Now, they were back at it but they were adults. The royal agents and attendants had no plans to step in and pull them apart.
"Let go." Mei Mei growled to Junjie.
"You first." He said to her.
She twisted her finger and he winced. "Jun Meilin, I am the Emperor. Have you forgotten this? As the Emperor I command you to let go of my royal ears or else..."
"Or else what?" She retorted. "I am your grandparents’ favorite person in the world. Even if they hear about this, they will stand on my side."
The royal agents looked around, eyes searching for cameras of any kind that would capture the embarrassing moment.
The only flash that came was from the phone of the woman that worked in the media department. She had a smile on her face, like she had just captured the most iconic picture in the world.
Mei Mei and Junjie let go of each other because they suddenly realized that they were throwing away their dignity.
"Tch! as an Emperor, you have no shame. How can you fight a woman in public?" She asked him.
He poured himself some wine while sneering, "Hmph, you would need to behave like a women first in order to be considered one."
Mei Mei gasped. She put her hands on her waist and nodded her head, "Ha! Long Junjie, now that you have fallen in love, you see me as a man!!"
Junjie’s lips raised into a smirk. He was so nonchalant, without the tense tired look of a man that had an entire empire on his back or an unhappy marriage. "I don’t see you as a man, I see you as my sister now...no...brother might be better. I think I am in love Mei Mei and I can finally understand why you run away with Mo Liang. Being in love will make you take risks and make decisions you would never make if you were thinking logically."
She stared at him and saw it in his eyes, the spark of hope which she had not seen since they rekindled their friendship. He meant what he said. All of it.
She sat down and sighed. Something great was finally happening in the life of her friend, how could she be the one to tell him to distance himself from the woman he loved?
He was the Emperor, the most powerful man in the empire. So what if there was a scandal around his new relationship? It wasn’t like it was the worst scandal in the royal family. Long Bo’s domestic violence tendencies had been revealed and yet life was still moving as usual.
It had been in the news for a maximum of three days and people had found something else to talk about. His divorce had been announced by the royal family on their social media pages and nobody cared.
Maybe it was because both sides had hurled jaw dropping accusations that made people realize that both of them were not good people. Or maybe it was because of the AI axe which was still stirring waves in the empire.
Whatever the reason was, nobody cared.
As she thought, she ate more chips and enjoyed the afternoon breeze, running along her bare arms. "How are you going to explain her presence everywhere? When you come out next year and reveal the relationship, people will obviously know that you two were involved quickly after your wife exploded in the air."
"My mother and grandmother already came up with a solution. Kang Zhenzhen was hired as a tutor for my daughters so being seen around her is not questionable as long as the children are somewhere within the vicinity." He explained.
She nodded. The explanation made sense and when the news was made public, they would share it as this story about the tutor and the widowed Emperor who bonded together as they helped the children overcome a tragedy.
It was cute.
In Mei Mei’s opinion, the children appeared to have overcome the tragedy already. Long Shuang seemed to have moved on. Perhaps it was because she was a child.
Long Wen was Long Wen: Unreadable.
She laid down on the blanket, munching on the sugar free cookies with a grimace. "You were right after all, this eunuch was worried for nothing. I wish you and Kang Zhenzhen nothing but happiness. A lifetime together and one hundred babies."
