King of Hollywood-Chapter 99 - : The Tonight Show (Part 1)
Chapter 99: Chapter 99: The Tonight Show (Part 1)
There were many reasons why they could wrap up the filming so quickly, such as the fact that all the shots were basically indoors, except for the driving scenes; or perhaps due to the cooperation during this period, the crew members all maintained a good working enthusiasm; of course, the main reason was still Samuel Jackson’s and John Travolta’s superb performances.
Heaven knows what got into these two guys; in most scenes, they would nail it in just two or three takes, and even in the most complex ones, the number of NGs (no-goods) wouldn’t exceed single digits—it was truly baffling; the blue pills weren’t even invented yet.

Such things actually don’t need overthinking; some actors are just like that, suddenly hitting their stride as if struck by a pie falling from the sky, and then carrying others with them into the zone, thus speeding up the shooting process.
“Hey, Samuel, did you see? This time it was your fault, I win!” From what Travolta said to his co-star after one NG, it was clear how much of an impact Jackson’s full form had on the production.
Truly, a late bloomer. Adrian silently gave Jackson this comment in his mind. If it came down to it, Bruce Willis could be let go, but Samuel Jackson must be secured.
ACE Media’s talent agency had already made preliminary contact with several of the main actors of “Pulp Fiction”. Willis was currently on the rise, and even if his agents agreed to switch, the terms would be quite high, hence further negotiations were needed; Travolta’s agents were not a problem, but Travolta’s shelf life was too short, and even if they could pull him up later, if he couldn’t rise on his own, it would still be futile, so Adrian was still hesitating.
...
But Samuel Jackson was different; although not a blazing star, his popularity had always maintained a certain stability, and he could be counted as an A-lister in Hollywood; at least the current situation showed he was a very cost-effective choice. As for Monica Bellucci, with Adrian involved, it was not a challenge at all.
Alright, by mid-March, “Pulp Fiction” had finally wrapped up, naturally moving on to post-production. This was like a cycle: preparation—shooting—post-production—preparation. It was fortunate that every movie’s production differed, or else this tedious cycle would drive anyone mad.
Even so, endlessly cycling through this process was still very draining, because many directors took a long break after completing their own works before considering their next project. The fact that Woody Allen could release films every year was already quite fast, so the public was astonished by Adrian’s abnormal behavior of producing three movies, all achieving good box office, within a year and a half.
Although the chief entertainment reporter from The Washington Post, Haggis, had interviewed Adrian and written two detailed articles, and countless tabloids had followed suit, the public was still not satisfied. And now, they were finally going to see this astonishing guy on TV because Adrian had been invited to attend the latest episode of NBC’s “The Tonight Show”.
“Please wait, Mr. Adrian, let me scrape this off first.” Along with the words of the makeup artist, Adrian felt the stuff on his face being peeled off bit by bit, each portion revealing the skin underneath, offering an unprecedented cool sensation.
About a few minutes later, all the stuff that had initially been applied on his face was scraped off, and the makeup artist busied herself on his face for a bit longer, finally declaring it complete.
“It’s really surprising, it’s a bit different from usual; how did you manage?” Adrian looked at himself in the mirror, somewhat surprised. His appearance hadn’t changed much, but compared to before, it was less rough and more refreshing.
“It’s a men’s skincare product from Biotherm,” the makeup artist replied. “It’s great for moisturizing the skin, but shouldn’t be overused. There’s a boutique on Lemonton Avenue.”
“Thanks, I’ll check it out,” Adrian nodded, as an assistant walked in at that moment. “Mr. Adrian, we’re about to start.”
“Then let’s go now.” He immediately stood up.
Dressed in a white long-sleeve T-shirt with dark trousers and black and white low-band sneakers, topped with a red and white baseball cap, that was Adrian’s casual, carefree, yet vibrant look as he made his way from behind the scenes.
“Hey, this is the first time in my hosting of the show that a guest is dressed so casually; it’s truly memorable, right?” Jay Leno, the host of “The Tonight Show,” said with a tone of surprise.
“Are you sure you won’t encounter more guests dressed like me in the future, Jay?” Adrian, sitting down on the couch, took off his cap and said with a chuckle. “You’ve only just started hosting ‘The Tonight Show’; you have to stay in this position for at least ten years.”
“That sounds like a blessing? Oh, thanks a lot, Mr. Adrian,” Leno blinked, “but how did you know what I dream of, Mr. Adrian?”
The audience burst into laughter. Jay Leno’s broad, protruding jaw was very famous, known for being highly comic as even slight facial movements could draw laughter. And because of this, although he had just started hosting “The Tonight Show” for NBC, he had received unanimous praise.
However, if one thought it was only his face that drew laughter, they would be very mistaken. It should be noted that he was formerly a dyslexic, yet he obtained a bachelor’s degree during a speech therapy session at Emerson College and even founded a comedy club, showing his remarkable capabilities. Like just now, his remark effortlessly enlivened the atmosphere.
“I guess I don’t need to introduce today’s guest, right,” Jay Leno chuckled as he looked at Adrian, “genius director? Genius director? Or… um… that…”
“Alright, Jay, just drop that word.” Adrian smiled helplessly, interrupting Leno who was gesticulating.
“That’s indeed not a good word, but you have to admit, your achievements are astonishing,” Leno shrugged.
“To be honest… at the beginning, I never thought I would end up in a situation like today…” Adrian thought for a moment and likewise shrugged, speaking earnestly.
“Great, it looks like our genius director is ready for the grilling,” Leno smacked his lips, eliciting another burst of laughter, “So—first question, we all know that some media have recently reported extensively about your school days; what are your thoughts or opinions on this, Adrian?”
