Kaijin Fighter: So I Have to Make Monsters, So What?-Chapter 1515: New Guest, Old Problems
As Alain and Smoking Mirror continued to scream their little hearts out in rage, a spectral zako was keeping an eye on them from a safe distance.
Just because Zhen Liu and his friends had to beat a hasty retreat, it didn't mean that the former was incapable of keeping an eye on things in Rainbowden.
The zako marbles he had tossed out earlier were all ones that could blend into Rainbowden without causing alarm, namely, stone zakos that could mimick being statues and spectral zakos that could just become ghosts and sneak around.
Eventually, though, both Alain and Smoking Mirror stopped their incessant screaming.
They were both warriors that understood that this was just emotional reaction that would serve no purpose other than assuage their hurt egos.
"..."
"..."
Alain and Smoking Mirror looked at each other for a brief moment, entertaining the idea of collaborating with each other for the sake of shared revenge.
"...tsk!"
"...tsk!"
However, they soon dismissed the thought with a click of their tongues and flew away in opposite directions.
They both had their own agendas, they both had their own modus operandi, they both had their own collection of allies that would probably clash with one another, and they both understood that there was a very high chance that they would clash with each other on multiple fronts.
Besides, only one of them would have the satisfaction of revenge, so why should they bother sharing in the first place?
"..."
As the two enemies of Zhen Liu continued to fly away, the spectral zako that was watching them decided to disappear as well. Well. they decided that their time was probably better spent in another part of the city, keeping an eye on other developments.
Especially since Rainbowden was going to be a lot more difficult to explore for the next few days.
…Meanwhile, back at the library…
"Where the heck is Zhen Liu?" Antonio asked. "He didn't do something crazy like staying behind and fighting those guys after sending us in here, right?"
"That…actually sounds like something that he would do," Zhen Xing answered. "If so, then we need to go and bother the curators about opening a way for us to—"
"Hey guys… I'm back…" Zhen Liu managed to squeak out of his throat before almost passing out. "Okay, I really have to stop pushing my energetic limits; it cannot be healthy for me to keep doing that…"
"Oh, never mind."
When they noticed that Zhen Liu and Lythero had yet to return to the [Library of Nowhere] with them, Antonio, Zhen Xing, and Zhen Tai had offered to stay behind to make sure that nothing had happened to them while everyone else got some rest and helped Axer settle in. They were just about to be disband when Zhen Liu and Lythero had arrived with the former looking like warm death.
"By the ancestors, why does Xiao Liu look like he's about to keel over again?!" Alicia asked in a worried voice as she moved in to take him off of Lythero's shoulders. While she did so, Bellona couldn't help but slightly chuckle at the sight.
"What's so funny?"
"Nothing, just…find it funny that this is technically a reversal of your own fantasies of this kind of moment."
"Oh, hush you."
Understanding that Zhen Liu was probably going to be fine, Rianna and Jinju Ren decided to bring their attention to Lythero and ask him about why they were delayed and why Zhen Liu was looking worse for wear because of their delay.
"Seriously, what happened?"
"Well…he decided to give a parting blow to Smoking Mirror and that weird angel guy before leaving," Lythero answered.
"Weird angel guy?" Rianna repeated in a confused voice. "Wait…you mean the sleazy prince that was hitting on big sis?"
"Same guy."
"Oh right, that motherfucker," Jinju Ren grumbled at the thought. "Did Xiao Liu break one of his wings, by any chance?"
"From what I saw, he had managed to do that plus a little more."
"Oh?"
"Well…"
Now that he was relieved of the physical burden of having to try and support Zhen Liu, Lythero was more than happy to regale the group with the precise reason why Zhen Liu looked as if he was ready to pass out at any moment. Namely, that the crazy young lord made use of a [Chaos] treasure art that nearly drained both him and his kaijin of all of their energy in order to piss off his enemies. As if to emphasize the sheer foolishness of Zhen Liu's decision, both the Mysticlassic and Ragnarocker kaijin proceeded to transform back into their original forms, into a heap on the ground.
"Oh hey, there's everybody…oh boy."
At the sight of his snoozing kaijin, Zhen Liu finally allowed sleep to take him and promptly passed out while leaning against Alicia. He would've knocked the girl, had Jinju Ren not moved in in time to support him as well.
"Okay, I think we should probably get him and the kaijin back to their quarters in the library so that they can rest, yes?"
"Agreed."
<=Then allow us to do so. =>
Just as Alicia and the others were about to go through the awkward process of carrying a half dozen monstrous warriors that were probably several dozen times their weight and size, Logos and Pathos descended from on high with several zakos in tow.
Under their direction, the curators had the zako promptly carry away Zhen Liu and the kaijin to the part of the library where their quarters were located.
Well, they were taking the kaijin to their quarters in order to recuperate. In Zhen Liu's case, they were bringing the man over to their study.
Needless to say, this particular change in direction was noticed by the others.
"Hey, where are you two taking Zhen Liu? Shouldn't be brought someplace where he can sleep and recover and not…whatever the hell you plan to do to him?" Alice asked.
<That was the initial plan, but it has come to our attention that our lord's ability to attract equal amounts of fortune and misfortune may very well be something related to his internal channels being all fucked up," Pathos explained. <Well, maybe its more related to the fact that he doesn't have any to begin with…"
=Either way, we're bringing him to the study so that we can take a closer look as to why this is the case. This could very well mean nothing, but it's worth a check at the very least,= Logos elaborated. =Because it's absurd how in the span of forty-eight hours, all of…this, happened."
"I…fair enough."
Understanding that this was now entering territory that they weren't familiar with, Zhen Liu's allies began to discuss amongst themselves their next course of action. Especially since now they had an unexpected guest amongst them.
Axer was still somewhat stunned about the last thirty or so minutes and was even more shocked by the appearance of this extravagant library.
Out of sight of Axer's wandering gaze, Alicia was gesturing to the others that she didn't want to be the one to try and see if he was mentally okay after everything that had occurred. Unfortunately for her, none of the others wanted to do so either, especially since he was technically her friend and not theirs.
"Boo…"
Understanding that this was her burden to bear, Alicia eventually worked up the nerve to talk to Axer.
"So…Axer…sorry about having to make you abandon your workshop," Alicia began. "I know it meant a lot to you."
"Eh," Axer sighed in a defeated tone. "It's…well, it's not really fine, but I suppose having my life is better than dying because of collateral damage. And besides, you guys said that we could probably teleport back there after things have settled over there, right?"
"Oh, yeah, totally," Alicia nodded. "No guarantees that everything will be as we left it, though."
"Well, obviously, but still…"
An awkward pause hung in the air as both sides tried to figure out what to say next, until Axer remembered something a bit odd about Zhen Liu's recruitment offer from earlier.
"Your fiancée mentioned something earlier about a forge I could use here in the library," Axer recalled. "But I don't see how a whole-ass forge can fit in an academic hall like this..."
"Ah, right," Alicia nodded in understanding over Axer's confusion. "Yeah, you're going to want to follow me. This place is...a little weird."
"I mean...if Zhen Liu and those kaijin are any indication of this place, I think I should be able to handle it," Axer assured Alicia.
Evidently, he was not going to be prepared for what he was about to see while here in the [Library of Nowhere].
"By the way, does this place have any manuals about forge techniques?"
"Oh, yeah. But that's just the tip of the iceberg."
...Some unknown amount of time later, in another part of the library...
<Man, when was the last time we made use of this [Karmic Connection Array]?>
=I think it was...around the time of the Asura King?=
<Damn...that was a long time ago.>
