Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!-Chapter 2193: The Change of God’s Birth Day
Of course, this is just speculation.
Besides the theory that a believer killed the Saintess and escaped, there’s another guess that no one was actually killed and that a Saintess escaped, with the temple unilaterally announcing the death to erase her identity.
As for the person being pursued to Satellite City, it’s not difficult to screen them, it just takes some time.
Outer Zone players can’t easily access government agencies to get passenger lists, so they use a more straightforward approach, which is publicly offering help to "oppressed" believers.
Outer Zone players can’t say they’re helping those who killed the Saintess, and believers aren’t keen to trust their words, so they keep things simple by just offering help to believers.
No matter if the person escaping to Satellite City is the Saintess or a believer, they’re now seen as enemies of the temple and can’t be protected by ordinary people; seeking help from Outer Zone players is their best option.
For a time, the area outside the temple was filled with ears and eyes.
Xu Huo and the other two were among them.
"I feel like no one will ask for help." Huang Mao stirred the noodles he just ordered, "Whoever escaped the temple surely had assistance, maybe they came to Satellite City to find a friend. If they don’t trust friends, why trust outsiders?"
"Besides, they’re all believers; unless their faith completely collapses, they won’t let outsiders in, even if it means battling each other to the death."
"Makes sense," Xu Huo said, "but it’s not certain. Even if there aren’t genuine ones, there might still be fakes appearing."
Huang Mao paused his movements, "You mean players intentionally creating a sensation?"
Not just that; passing players might create a fake "seeker" to attract believers, and the temple could do the same to bait them, or even the escaping believer could use a decoy to draw attention—if there’s more than one person involved.
"What’s wrong, don’t like it?" Huang Mao stuffed some noodles in his mouth and saw the silent A Hai.
A Hai said nothing, eating quietly.
"Has your faith collapsed?" Huang Mao stared at his face.
"Believers have faith in the Goddess, not the temple. Unless it was the Goddess who killed them," Xu Huo added, "I reckon there won’t be any results here soon. We’d better hurry up and get our stamps to visit the Holy Land."
"If this causes a big enough stir, the Holy Land won’t be peaceful."
A Hai seemed interested, while Huang Mao was troubled, "I haven’t gotten the stamp here yet, the temple won’t let me leave."
"Take your time," Xu Huo said.
Missing the Satellite City Temple stamp only stops them from entering the Holy Land Goddess Temple, but doesn’t prevent them from entering Holy Land City.
"Let’s head to the Holy Land first," A Hai said softly, "I’m really worried about something happening at the Holy Land Temple."
Huang Mao rolled his eyes, "Is your worry necessary? If something happens, you’ll have to run faster..."
Before he finished, he saw A Hai glaring angrily at him, making him swallow his words and amend, "Consider what I said wrong. Helping with anything is still helping, do your best!"
Then he turned away with his noodles, continuing to talk with Xu Huo, "If you go ahead, don’t forget to look into ways to pass through. There must be a lot of stuck players in the Holy Land."
Xu Huo assured him he wouldn’t forget.
After lunch, Xu Huo took A Hai to the remaining two Satellite Cities; he only went to the government buildings for stamps, while A Hai went to the temples again, and they reached the Holy Land by nightfall.
A layer of long-active defensive barrier shielded Holy Land City, and everyone arriving had to queue for inspection before entering. From afar, Xu Huo saw the eye symbol above the gate, meaning each person had to endure a gaze from the Goddess before entering the city.
The queue wasn’t long before some players were forced to leave. The eye symbol alone made those individuals suffer intense pain and withdraw, without a need for local players to intervene.
Even the locals didn’t know how far the eye symbol’s effect extended, but players attempting to sneak back into the line were quickly identified again, experiencing severe headaches.
Seeing several cases, newcomers behaved better.
Cars and people were queued together, mostly locals, who all had to disembark for inspection.
"The checking seems particularly strict today." A regular driver chatted with a companion, "Besides identification, they’re recording addresses, family, and destination. The city probably has district restrictions, so you can’t wander freely."
The Saintess’s alleged murder didn’t impact every Satellite City; the last two Xu Huo visited remained calm, and temples operated as usual.
A Hai couldn’t resist chatting with nearby people, being a local, he was more easily accepted.
However, believers in the Holy Land hadn’t heard of anything happening to the Saintess; someone mentioned they even held a ceremony yesterday, with no one missing from the Saintess’s procession.
As for the strict checking, believers attributed it to border players causing trouble, forcing the temple to restrict city areas, separating these players.
"Have they done this before?" Xu Huo inserted a question.
The believer scrutinized him before replying, "Not usually, but it’s almost the triennial God’s Day, they have to be cautious."
A Hai was surprised, "Isn’t God’s Day two months away?"
"Haven’t you heard?" The believer seemed astonished, "Last year, God’s Day was changed. The original date was when our ancestors first communicated with the Goddess, but after receiving the divine message, we learned the Goddess arrived much earlier and contacted our ancestors too, though no one realized it."
"Since they found earlier records now, of course it has to change...the Goddess has been trying to save us for a long time; it just hasn’t happened yet."
"Who was the first person the Goddess contacted?" A Hai quickly asked.
"Of course it was the ancestors of the Divine Envoy," the believer beamed, "why else does only the Divine Envoy hear the Goddess’s call?"
A Hai’s worldview was shaken, "Wasn’t the ancestor made dual-gender through the Goddess’s help?"
"The original God’s Day said so, but now everyone knows, the Divine Envoy’s ancestors were the original dual-gender ones, favored by the Goddess initially. They were ignored due to their low status then, but thankfully fate was kind." The believer touched his chest earnestly.
"Did the Goddess also say that?" Xu Huo suddenly asked, continuing despite the suspicious look, "I mean, have all believers heard the Goddess say that?"
"The Divine Envoy could never be wrong," the believer coldly replied, "it’s precisely because the Divine Envoy hears the divine words that our nation grows stronger with each generation!"
