Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!-Chapter 2110: Spending Money Makes People Grow Up Fast
The line soon reached Xu Huo, and the inspection was quite simple. Peace City had arranged for a few players with particularly sharp senses of smell who could directly identify if someone was a Cannibal Player just through scent, no need for instruments or props, greatly reducing the players’ resistance.
The city was bustling with various convenient instruments already commonplace here. Whenever players entered, miniature devices would actively approach and ask if they wanted to head to the ruins. Clicking confirm would queue them up, and this queue was for the whole city. Xu Huo got number 235, and the estimated time for his turn was the next day. When the time came, the miniature signal card he got would alert him in advance.
Entering the battle site required a personal number, so the Girl in the painting also obtained a number, 239.
Peace City had undergone several renovations, and the whole city was centered around the battle site, forming a circular band. The entire middle area was reserved for the battle site. However, Peace City didn’t guard the site very strictly, just symbolically blocking the surroundings with metal chains. The city had twenty-six entrances, and players could enter the site from wherever they were in the city. The ruins could be clearly seen from outside.
This place was unlike the legendary evolutionary sites controlled by powerful forces—it wasn’t so mysterious. Walking around it once, one could almost see the entire site, which was just a city razed by war, with many areas flattened and a few incomplete buildings remaining. Though the space was vast, it didn’t appear special from the outside.
"No wonder it’s free, anyone can enter." Many players were disappointed when they saw the real site, "Being this close, there’s just nothing to feel."
Peace City didn’t block off the ruins, so many players outside used props and devices to detect the Space-Time Power inside. Without any gains just steps away, disappointment was inevitable.
"From free ones, what more do you expect? In places like this, it’s all about luck and talent. Those good places might not let you undergo Secondary Evolution even if you get in." Another player said, "Isn’t there a sign there? Those names listed are ones who successfully underwent Secondary Evolution here. Someone succeeded, so at least there’s some hope."
"It’s still early, let’s find a place to pass the time."
Players came in groups and left together, though the Girl in the painting wasn’t interested in the ruins. She spent her remaining money on various trinkets, planning to take them back as gifts.
Xu Huo followed her, strolling along the ruins. Soon his hands were filled with bags, watching the Girl in the painting constantly pulling out money from her small bag—both White Notes and local paper money. He said, "Your money isn’t spent yet?"
The Girl in the painting laughed happily, "The money you gave me was spent long ago; this is what others gave me. Some people even bring money from me to believe in you."
"Do you want some? I’ll give you a share."
Seeing her tightly clutching the banknotes, Xu Huo could only say, "Forget it, keep it for yourself."
The Girl in the painting was very happy, and soon she was playing with a group of local kids on the street, successfully receiving "inside information" to move to a truly authentic local delicacy shop. Because she generously paid, the crowd of children around her grew, attracting attention from some players.
But she was completely indifferent, as many of the kids lived nearby and were gradually called away by their parents.
"We are friends. You should study well and grow healthily." Maybe giving away money had become second nature, and each child got some snack money as they left, making everyone happy for a moment.
An hour later, when all the children finally left her side, the Girl in the painting returned to Xu Huo, eyes full of affection, "I saw a restaurant that looks delicious. Aren’t you tired? Let’s take a break."
"Spent all your money?" Xu Huo smiled.
The Girl in the painting naturally took the things she bought from his hands, "Money will inevitably be spent."
"Then let’s go eat." Xu Huo turned into the restaurant.
As the ruins were open to the public, a large part of those moving around the city were Outer Zone players, and the restaurant was the same. As the two walked in, they were met with glances from all around.
"Hey there, is that your girlfriend? You’re really kind to your girlfriend, giving away money everywhere." A female player said with playful ambiguity.
Before Xu Huo could speak, the Girl in the painting fiddled with her communicator for a while and then said to her, "The money I’m giving away is earned by me. Do you want some too?"
The female player leaned her chin on her hand against the table, "I have hands and feet. Why would I need your money? You seem different from the usual players."
There weren’t many empty seats in the restaurant, so Xu Huo and the Girl in the painting sat at the next table.
"What’s different?" The Girl in the painting looked at Xu Huo’s face and then in the mirror at her own, sincerely asking, "Everyone has eyes, a nose, and a mouth."
The female player let out a laugh, "I mean, I’ve never seen such an... humble player like you, giving away money on the street. Many are watching you."
The Girl in the painting laughed along, "They want to steal my money? Too bad it’s already gone. If they want to steal, they can only try for his money."
She was referring to Xu Huo.
The female player’s eyes finally shifted to Xu Huo, her expression paused slightly, "With that serious look, he doesn’t even respond when spoken to. I doubt many would dare to try robbing him."
"Of course," The Girl in the painting coyly leaned closer to Xu Huo, "But he’s very approachable and would even treat me to a meal."
Xu Huo handed the menu to the waiter and effortlessly pushed away the head leaning on his arm, only to see a communicator extended to him with a line of text:
"I really have no money, can I borrow some for a fee?"
Xu Huo raised his eyebrow slightly, "Overspending is a bad habit, but you can spend the money I’ve saved for you here."
Ting City was already under the Girl in the painting’s name, though the Special Defense Department never stopped trying to reach her, though they couldn’t contact her directly; some of their ’sentiments’ were only passed on through him.
The Girl in the painting was momentarily puzzled, the "I have savings?" expression barely lasted a second before vanishing. She generously said, "I’ll treat you to a meal."
No matter where the money came from, spending it was her priority.
Switching from penny-pinching to lavish spending took just a second. The Girl in the painting picked up the menu, wanting to try everything.
Seeing her eager to order everything, Xu Huo timely stopped her. She reluctantly put down the menu and asked the person serving if there were any places nearby selling props.
"There’s no official trading hall in Peace City, but many Outer Zone players trade temporarily in the eastern part," the waiter said.
Perhaps thinking of new enjoyment, the Girl in the painting was quite absent-minded during the meal and soon set down her cutlery, handing out her backpack.
Xu Huo hadn’t put much money in there, tens of thousands or so wouldn’t buy good props, "Save for something particularly liked, pay a deposit first."
