Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 655 - 654: The Dessert House
Every profession has its master, and Tian Peng just isn’t someone proficient in cooking, he’s even far from just learning the basics from Sun Wukong.
But that doesn’t mean Tian Peng is completely useless in the kitchen. His time with Tian Peng simply hasn’t been long enough to discover the best dish for him.
As for Sha Wujing, Chen Nuo wants to take the next couple of days to observe what kind of dishes he might be best suited for. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
In recent days, Chen Nuo hasn’t been in the mood to cook. He devoted all his time to developing new dishes, leaving Sun Wukong in charge of the takeout orders. He worried that his culinary skills may have declined quite a bit since the milk tea shop had been closed for several days.
Sun Wukong and Sha Wujing barely communicated in the kitchen. One was busy stir-frying while the other rushed to deliver orders. There wasn’t much to talk about, and at most they exchanged a word or two, spending the rest of their time on their respective tasks.
Sun Wukong didn’t know the true identity of Sha Wujing was that of the Curtain Lifting General from the Heavenly Realm; he still thought the other was just a Water Demon that Chen Nuo had brought back from the Flowing Sand River.
However, Sha Wujing proved to be earnest and diligent, and since he was naturally reticent, Sun Wukong, after spending a few days with him, actually found Sha Wujing to be a decent demon.
It seemed he shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions. Originally swayed by Tian Peng’s words, he thought Sha Wujing was a slick-talking demon who had deceived Chen Nuo into keeping him at Chaos Residence and even granting him a name. Now it seemed that wasn’t the case.
There must have been some misunderstanding between Tian Peng and Sha Wujing that led to their dispute.
As for bringing someone back to Chaos Residence and bestowing a name, those were all Chen Nuo’s own ideas. Presumably, this Water Demon must have really appealed to Chen Nuo for him to go to such lengths.
For the past few days, Chen Nuo had been poring over cookbooks. Although the orders for dishes from Chaos Residence hadn’t decreased, he felt as if he had hit a creative block.
He hadn’t missed out on many dishes, but those didn’t really excite Chen Nuo; they weren’t the type he wanted.
Realizing he couldn’t come up with any good ideas, he tapped on the system, "Do you have any good suggestions for new dishes?"
"I’m here." After the system beeped, it suggested, "Most of your dishes are Chinese-style. Maybe you can try cooking some dishes from other countries."
Those still weren’t interesting to him, not what Chen Nuo was looking for. He shook his head, "None of these are what I want. Do you have any other suggestions?"
The system sounded a holding tone, then answered, "The host could try making desserts."
When desserts were mentioned, Chen Nuo actually became quite interested; he indeed had made many different dishes, but when it came to desserts, that was like an undeveloped blueprint, and it indeed presented a good opportunity for innovation.
"I have never made desserts before. System, send me a few dessert recipes. I think I’d like to try making some," said Chen Nuo.
"Transferring the Dessert Compendium to you now, please wait," the system responded with a prompt.
After a short wait, Chen Nuo felt many dessert-making methods had been added to his mind.
Dessert-making is different from cooking; not only is the equipment important, but the ratios are crucial as well. Getting the proportions right in dessert-making is essential, and the slightest error can ruin the entire dish.
But these were not problems for him. However, Sun Wukong’s temperament really didn’t suit making desserts. Chen Nuo thought about Tian Peng and Sha Wujing and was still unclear about their capabilities.
However, that wasn’t a concern, as the dessert section was just getting started. As for which of the two could excel in making desserts, that would be up to their own fate.
Chen Nuo, with a head full of dessert-making methods, stopped at the kitchen door.
Desserts and dishes, although both food, didn’t seem suitable to be mixed together.
The aroma of the dishes was truly overpowering; it would be inappropriate to make desserts at the same time, as the flavors of the desserts would be tainted by those of the dishes.
Despite the fact that the stove was fully enclosed by a barrier Formation, such an environment was suited only for cooking hot dishes, not at all for making desserts.
Chen Nuo looked at the empty space behind the kitchen. The area was quite spacious, so constructing a new dessert house was certainly feasible.
No sooner said than done, Chen Nuo immediately purchased a dessert house from the system.
The system offered a complete set for a dessert house, seemingly anticipating this day. However, unlike the small items purchased previously, this entire dessert house consumed twenty thousand of his Merit Points.
Fortunately, Chen Nuo could afford twenty thousand, but that was based on his current situation, whereas before, he wouldn’t have given a dessert house costing twenty thousand even a second glance.
Right after purchasing the dessert house from the system, a building similar in appearance to the kitchen instantly appeared on the vacant land behind it, blending in as if it had always been there.
Chen Nuo entered the building and was immediately astonished by the scene inside.
The dessert house was equipped with a complete set of instruments and equipment for making desserts, functioning just like modern ones, but instead of using electricity, here they operated on Mana.
There was a long pipe at the entrance, which connected to all the equipment in the house. Upon entering, one needed to transfer Mana into this pipe, which had instructions stating that filling it with Mana once could make a hundred desserts and warnings about nearing the threshold for Spiritual Power usage.
If not for the fact that he was still at Chaos Residence, Chen Nuo might have thought he had returned to the modern era.
"These twenty thousand were well spent," Chen Nuo said.
The system immediately replied, "We have offered you the maximum discount possible, to ensure the host does not experience a loss."
The system’s initial asking price had been forty thousand Merit Points, which Chen Nuo had bargained down to twenty thousand.
Far from feeling guilty about getting the better of someone, Chen Nuo said indifferently, "Don’t you know the principle of halving the price during a bargain, even as a system?"
The system responded in a disgruntled mechanical voice, "Next time we set a price for you, we’ll have to start at double the original price."
Chen Nuo smiled, "Thanks for the tip, next time I’ll start by slashing the price to a quarter."
"Host, you are too ruthless."
"Necessity of life," Chen Nuo said with a smile at the corner of his mouth, and placed his hand on the device at the entrance.
A steady stream of Mana flowed from Chen Nuo’s hand into the pipe. When it was full, a notification sounded and Chen Nuo withdrew his hand, feeling nothing at all.
It seemed like the Mana charge was supposed to last quite a while; Chen Nuo had thought that filling it once would use up a considerable amount of Mana, yet he felt nothing after transferring it.
"It’s written so exaggeratedly; I thought it would use a significant effort," Chen Nuo chuckled softly and then walked inside.
The system had not yet terminated its communication with Chen Nuo. Hearing his remark, it retorted indignantly, "It’s clearly because your Dharma strength is abundant, how can you blame the instrument for using a small amount of Mana?"
Chen Nuo paid no heed to the system’s words, his attention now fully on the equipment and the materials.
