Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 650 - 649: Omen of Awakening Divine Skills
But it was only after eating the Mao Xuewang that he realized, the dish wasn’t fishy at all, it was more about the freshness and the spicy sensation, one bite made you crave for more.
Sha Wujing grabbed his chopsticks and started shoveling food into his mouth, eating faster and faster, and getting more skilled at using the chopsticks.
By the time he stopped, the technique for using chopsticks had completely come back to him, it was perfect.
As he nearly finished his meal, his movements with the chopsticks slowed, his lips numbed and stung from the spiciness, but he felt as if his heart was stuffed with cotton, his chest warm, with beads of sweat dropping from his forehead due to the heat.
Chen Nuo timely placed a cup of herbal tea in front of him, "Take a sip if it’s too spicy, it can help cleanse your palate."
"Thank you, Shopkeeper Chen." Sha Wujing quickly took the tea with both hands from Chen Nuo, and took a sip.
His lips were stinging from the spiciness, but the cool tea immediately relieved most of the spicy sensation.
Sha Wujing wiped the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve, indeed, like Chen Nuo said, drinking the tea made him feel much better.
After taking two sips of the herbal tea, the painful sensation subsided, and he picked up his chopsticks again, there was still food in his bowl, he had to finish everything.
There wasn’t much left in the Mao Xuewang to begin with, aside from some vegetables at the bottom.
Sha Wujing put everything into his mouth without leaving any behind, but it wasn’t enough to just finish the vegetables. Although the remaining soup was very spicy, Sha Wujing seemed unfazed, ready to pour it into his mouth.
Chen Nuo had been watching him and didn’t realize what he intended, thinking maybe he was just checking if any food was left. Only when Sha Wujing brought it to his mouth did Chen Nuo realize what he was about to do.
"Wait, are you going to drink the soup?"
Sha Wujing’s actions paused as he seriously replied, "Since Shopkeeper Chen made it for me, I will make sure to finish it cleanly, even the soup."
"There’s really no need to eat it that clean," Chen Nuo said, eyeing the fiery red soup.
Mao Xuewang is primarily enjoyed for what’s inside it, and the soup is usually quite salty; it’s fine for the main course, but not really suitable for drinking.
"You made it especially for me, so I will eat it all with a sincere heart," Sha Wujing said, and then picked up the bowl and drank every last drop of the red soup.
Chen Nuo frowned as he watched him drink the soup but since he had already tried to stop him, and Sha Wujing was determined to drink it, there was nothing he could do but watch.
After drinking the last of the soup, Sha Wujing put down the bowl, let out a satisfied burp, and then stood up to give Chen Nuo a deep bow, "Thank you, Shopkeeper Chen, for preparing this meal for me. Having eaten your food, I am now an employee of your store, and I will work hard at Chaos Residence in gratitude."
"It’s only right to work hard. For each day you stay at Chaos Residence, you must strive," Chen Nuo said, "Now, let me show you around Chaos Residence, since you are now one of our staff."
Sha Wujing stood up, not sure if it was because of the deep bow he had just made or for some other reason, but he felt a bit dizzy, and his vision momentarily went white.
Noticing something was off with Sha Wujing, Chen Nuo asked, "What’s wrong, do you feel unwell?"
Not only was Sha Wujing’s vision whitening, but his ears were ringing, both quiet and noisy at the same time. He shook his head vigorously, but it did not help; instead, his entire head seemed to be filled with something, wobbling with his movements.
"System, check his current status," Chen Nuo commanded.
"Checking now." Upon receiving Chen Nuo’s command, the system made a notification sound followed by a waiting sound, "Detecting immense energy within Sha Wujing’s body."
"It must be an Awakening of Divine Skills, Host need not panic, this energy will not explode, Sha Wujing can transform it himself."
Although this didn’t look quite like how others awakened their Divine Skills, since the system said nothing would happen, he decided to just wait and see.
Sha Wujing felt the white light before him growing larger, until it enveloped his entire being. He shook his head, the ringing in his ears subsided a great deal, but the white light still did not disappear.
"Shopkeeper Chen? Shopkeeper Chen!" Sha Wujing called out twice, but in this white light, even though he made a sound, no one responded. There was nothing here, it seemed like a void, but also as if everything existed.
Although this place was unfamiliar, Sha Wujing felt very at ease. He had never felt this way even when he was in his own territory at the Flowing Sand River.
Where exactly was this place? He was just at Chaos Residence and he still had to thank the shopkeeper, but Chaos Residence had disappeared, the shopkeeper was gone, and only he remained in this place, with no idea where to go.
Sha Wujing looked around; all he could see was white light, yet why did he feel like everything was here? What was going on, and why was he here, and how would he return?
As he pondered what to do, gradually voices began to emerge nearby, distant and yet familiar, as if coming from far away.
But clearly, in all these years he had never heard such voices, so why did they seem familiar?
Sha Wujing followed the direction of the voices and took a few steps; it seemed that indeed the voices grew louder with his footsteps.
It appeared that walking did have its uses. Sha Wujing followed the direction of the voices.
He hadn’t guessed wrong, the voices were, in fact, getting closer, so close they seemed to be ringing in his ears or resounding in his mind.
He heard others calling him General and loudly offering their congratulations.
General? What General? A General from the mortal world?
Then he listened more carefully; the voices became clearer. He seemed to hear those voices saying, "Congratulations to Your Excellency for ascending and becoming the Curtain Lifting General of our Heavenly Realm!"
Heavenly Realm?
It was truly bizarre; he was just a Water Demon, and he despised the Heavenly Realm. Even given the chance to ascend, he would’ve chosen to stay comfortably in the mortal realm.
As he thought this, the voices seemed to hear his thoughts, the celebratory atmosphere suddenly turning serious.
"The Jade Emperor has been particularly irritable these past few days, everyone should be careful not to run afoul of him."
"This Flat Peach Banquet is hosted by the Queen Mother aiming to lighten the Jade Emperor’s mood. You must all remember this lesson and not upset the Jade Emperor again."
What? The Jade Emperor’s anger affects other Immortals as well? That is unfortunate. Thinking about it, it’s better to stay in one’s own domain.
Where one is the king, one need not worry about the emotions of others; at least when one is angry, it doesn’t affect anyone else.
While considering this, he suddenly felt that something was not right.
Being with Shopkeeper Chen wasn’t so bad after all. Chen had a kind heart and was a formidable person. Not just formidable, but his emotions never showed.
Even when angry, he surely wouldn’t be like those mentioned in the voices, where with one bout of anger, no one dared to cross him.
