Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 555: Big trouble, go find the Shopkeeper.
He took out another Spirit Stone from his Silken Pouch, held it in his palm and transformed the Spiritual Power within. Then, with his concentration gathered and breath held, he performed the Cicada’s Sloughing spell.
The Cicada’s Sloughing was one of the most basic spells, not very useful among Immortals, but in the mortal realm, it was a very handy spell indeed.
He left his physical body in the room, pretending to be asleep, while his soul rose and made its way to Chaos Residence on Mountain of Mind and Heart.
Sun Wukong had already started selling milk tea, and in the blink of an eye, he saw Tian Peng approach and asked in surprise, "What’s the matter with you? Didn’t you just leave? Have you run into trouble again?"
Tian Peng first shook his head, then after a moment’s thought, he nodded and then shook his head again.
He was so confused himself that he didn’t know how best to explain.
"Come on, out with it. Don’t just stand there nodding and shaking your head. What’s the matter? Speak up, and I’ll know."
Sun Wukong was getting impatient seeing him like this and said, "You were speaking so urgently just a moment ago, now why have you suddenly gone silent?"
"Ah, Mr. Monkey, I really don’t know how to explain it to you, just wait a bit, let me talk to the Shopkeeper first," Tian Peng said.
Now Sun Wukong was even more restless and quickly got up to hang a ’Be Right Back’ sign on the door. "Please wait, everyone, I’ll be back soon."
Leaving so many people waiting at the door didn’t weigh on his mind in the slightest.
Tian Peng, indeed overwhelmed by the throng of milk tea customers at the door, didn’t know how to speak and followed Sun Wukong into Chaos Residence.
Chen Nuo was resting and, hearing the noise at the door, looked up, then put down his teacup. "If you have something to say, come in. Don’t make a racket at the door."
"Shopkeeper, oh dear, I’m afraid it’s exactly that which I feared that has come to pass!" exclaimed Tian Peng as soon as he entered.
Seeing his reaction, Chen Nuo knew he must have encountered some trouble. "What’s the matter? Did you really run into Jiang Liuer?"
"It’s more than just running into him. I’ve never experienced such a bizarre coincidence. It’s so unbelievable that even if it were written in a storybook, people might not accept it."
Sun Wukong was utterly baffled, and, being quite impatient by nature, all he wanted was for Tian Peng to hurry up and reveal what had happened.
"You fool, can’t you speak properly? You’re about to drive me crazy. If something happened, just say it. Don’t drag it out, get to the point and don’t waste the master’s time, his time is very precious!"
"It’s really too much to sum up in a sentence or two. This issue is just too coincidental, more so than a blind man threading a needle, I wouldn’t believe it if it hadn’t happened to me," Tian Peng continued.
Sun Wukong was still eagerly waiting for Tian Peng to reveal the truth, but all he got was a barrage of words that still missed the main point.
Unable to restrain himself, he kicked Tian Peng, "Will you stop being an idiot and get to the point? I’m giving you two seconds; hurry up and tell me what’s going on!"
"Well, it’s like this. When I came earlier asking the Shopkeeper to brew medicine for a monk, remember? The one who got sick from the smell of meat and fish?"
"You found out that this monk is actually Jiang Liuer?" asked Chen Nuo.
Tian Peng nodded vigorously, "Yes, exactly!"
Sun Wukong hadn’t thought too much about it yet, as he wasn’t aware who Jiang Liuer was. He scratched his head and asked, "But master, who is Jiang Liuer, and why should we stay away from him?"
"Jiang Liuer is the reincarnation of Jin Chanzi; that’s his childhood name," said Chen Nuo. "His Dharmic name is Xuanzang."
Tian Peng nodded, "Yes, yes, yes, that’s exactly it!"
Sun Wukong’s eyes widened in surprise—he had not known that Jiang Liuer was the reincarnation of Jin Chanzi, and that Tian Peng had even encountered him. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"How could such a coincidence happen!" Sun Wukong exclaimed in astonishment, and then he realized something, slapping his head, "Oh no, if Jin Chanzi is in the mortal world, there must be guardians from Buddhism watching over him. Could they know that Tian Peng is right by Jiang Liuer’s side and has even reincarnated as a human?"
Tian Peng was also unclear about this; as soon as he learned of it, he immediately went to inform Chen Nuo.
"Although Jin Chanzi has reincarnated into the mortal world, Buddhism still needs to pave the way for him, so they probably won’t be watching his reincarnation at all times," Chen Nuo said.
This indeed made sense, as guardianship required manpower, and the disciples on the side of Buddhism were not numerous, almost negligible compared to the ranks of the Heavenly Court.
It seemed that unless something major happened, Buddhism probably wouldn’t watch too closely.
"Where are you guys now?" Chen Nuo asked. "If you’re going to accompany him on the journey, you’re going to separate from his group when you reach Chang’an, right?"
Tian Peng nodded, "Indeed, we will part ways once we reach Chang’an, but it’s still a ten-day journey from here. If any accidents happen along the way, it could cause delays, yet the lord has already promised to travel with the reincarnation of Jin Chanzi. We can’t just abandon him now."
Indeed, a promise already made cannot be taken back, and there was no way to divert the reincarnation of Jin Chanzi through any methods.
Such an action would attract the attention of Buddhism, and the only option now was to stand still.
"Indeed, it’s not easy to find a solution. If it doesn’t work out, you’ll just have to travel with him for now. On the road, make sure not to reveal any flaws, and remember not to stand out. You’ve changed a lot from before, so they probably won’t recognize you," Chen Nuo instructed.
Since there was truly no other way but to stand still, Tian Peng could only agree to it, walking and thinking of ways to bid farewell to the reincarnation of Jin Chanzi when the time came.
Because he was concerned that Jin Chanzi might be under Buddhism’s guardianship, Tian Peng did not dare to linger in the Chaos Residence for long.
Returning to the Chaos Residence at an uncertain time and potentially encountering Buddhism’s guardians would be less than ideal.
Xuanzang had fully recovered by now; that medicine really worked wonders. After just one dose, he had regained his strength and no longer felt nauseous or dizzy.
Not only was he well again, he even felt stronger than before.
He figured it was probably just his imagination, as it was already good enough for a body to recover after a serious illness.
Feeling even more energized than before seemed absolutely impossible.
However, they had already lost a whole day, and even though he was fully recovered now, traveling in the dark was not safe. Departure had to wait until the next day.
He rose from his bed and recited some Buddhist Scriptures.
He felt somewhat indebted to the Buddha Ancestor for not being able to recite scriptures earlier due to his illness, and after he finished reciting, he spent a long time asking the Buddha Ancestor for forgiveness.
Afterward, Xuanzang came out of his room. Being a regular wanderer, he knew the regulations of the escort agency, which charged by the day. Because of his sickness, he felt guilty about the lord of Kaifeng Prefecture having to pay for an extra day.
Exiting his room, he knocked on the lord’s door, simultaneously apologizing and expressing his gratitude.
He repeated his thanks several times, and only when he no longer felt as guilty did he finally stop.
