Chapter 517: Chapter 517: From Morning to Night, Only Encountering Pregnant Wild Boars

He had thought it through, and if he already understood such a simple logic, then Shopkeeper Chen from Chaos Residence must know it too.

If that was the case, it would be much easier to handle, as Shopkeeper Chen surely had his own plans as well.

He and Tian Peng were still good brothers, even if there were some minor conflicts, they couldn’t amount to anything serious.

Most importantly, no one, neither the Jade Emperor nor Shopkeeper Chen, had given up on Tian Peng.

Xiaotian Dog, accompanied by the Three Demons, discovered a place, a small town where the faces of the people were all fairly downtrodden, indicating a life with little to no luxury.

The Three Demons had all transformed into human forms, indistinguishable from the ordinary mortals.

"What place is this, why does everyone look like this? Where’s Tian Peng, where is he?" the Great Roc asked.

"I’m searching for you now, aren’t I? What’s the rush!" Xiaotian Dog said, nudging his nose, looking for Tian Peng’s whereabouts.

They searched from the head to the tail of the village but found no trace of Tian Peng.

"What’s going on, why can’t we find Tian Peng’s whereabouts? What time is it already, and we still haven’t found Tian Peng?" The Great Roc, moving on foot all along, felt his legs so tired that he could barely lift them.

"Exactly, are you capable or not? In such a short time, we’ve almost walked through the entire village, and we still haven’t found Tian Peng," the Roc Demon King couldn’t help but complain.

Sweat beads dripped down from Xiaotian Dog’s forehead, he turned to look at the Three Demons, "What then, if I can’t do it then you try, whoever can manage it, go ahead!"

None of the Three Demons were up to it, after all, none of them had a dog’s nose, especially when there wasn’t a single trace to follow.

In the end, it was still Xiaotian Dog who continued the search. They searched the village in broad daylight, but ultimately found nothing.

Arriving at the mountain behind the town, Xiaotian Dog smelled Tian Peng’s scent getting closer and closer, and he asserted, "Tian Peng is on this mountain."

"So he was on the mountain! Why didn’t you say that earlier and made us search everywhere in vain, really!" the Great Roc grumbled.

"I knew he was on the mountain all along, why would I search the village if I found him? I’m here because I didn’t find him!" Xiaotian Dog retorted.

"Each and every one of you, so ungrateful. I went through such a big ordeal with all of you, and not a single one is grateful. It’s all blame, well then, in that case, you can search on your own!"

"The hand that receives is the hand that’s tied," the Great Roc reminded, "Anyway, I don’t care, you took something from us."

Fine then, that was indeed the case, Xiaotian Dog fell silent and continued searching on the mountain.

The mountain, being close to the village, had a small path trodden by humans.

Xiaotian Dog initially followed the path, but suddenly felt something was amiss. Tian Peng’s traces weren’t along the trail carved out by mortals.

Rather, the further he veered off the path, the stronger Tian Peng’s scent became. With a belly full of doubts, Xiaotian Dog searched for signs of Tian Peng.

"What’s going on here, why is Tian Peng looking for a host family to reincarnate into in such deep and remote mountain woods?" the Great Roc wondered aloud.

"Not necessarily," Xiong Daoren said. "There aren’t many people in this village to begin with, and they all look distressed. If that’s the case, it could be a woman going up the mountain to look for food or to chop wood."

"But if that’s so, why wouldn’t a woman follow the path, instead heading to such a remote place?" The Roc Demon King was even more puzzled. "Close to delivery, one should think of getting down the mountain quickly. Why would she move further and further away from the path to descend?"

"Could it be, because labor was imminent, she panicked and couldn’t find the way down the mountain?" Xiong Daoren proposed his analysis.

The Three Demons speculated back and forth about Tian Peng’s figure but could find no trace of the person in question.

Xiaotian Dog sniffed the scent getting closer and closer, but just like the Three Demons had said, there was not a single person to be seen, not even a sound could be heard, which was truly strange.

"What’s going on, could it be that your nose, after smelling the rabbit head earlier, led you to mistake the scent now?" the Golden-Winged Great Roc nervously remarked, seeing that the sky had already darkened.

"Are you questioning the abilities of me, Xiaotian Dog? Do you know what I’m like? Where I come from, who I apprenticed with?"

Xiaotian Dog immediately retorted, "No matter what, I am a legitimate deity, not comparable with your kind of demon!"

Initially, they were searching for Tian Peng, but unexpectedly, they started quarreling in the midst of their search.

Xiong Daoren, seeing that the sky was growing darker by the minute, knew that if the arguing continued, it might become more and more difficult to find Tian Peng, perhaps even impossible to find him today, so he hastily tried to mediate.

"Alright, stop arguing. The matter at hand is urgent. Let’s continue searching for Tian Peng’s whereabouts; otherwise, we really won’t be able to find him!"

However, no one listened to him, and the argument escalated, turning from verbal to preparing to physically fight.

Xiong Daoren’s attempt to mediate was unsuccessful. While he was holding his forehead, pondering over a solution, suddenly a wild boar’s howling came from a distance.

"What’s happening, what’s happening?"

Hearing the noise, Xiaotian Dog and the Three Demons turned their heads to look.

In the deep forest afar, the sound of something running fast could be heard.

It was getting dark, and if the distance was too far, it was impossible to see clearly what it was. When the creature approached, the Three Demons and Xiaotian Dog could finally see it clearly.

Xiaotian Dog thought the sound resembled that of a wild boar, and to his surprise, upon closer inspection as the creature drew near, it really was a wild boar!

This wild boar was not an ordinary one, with a huge belly. Although its movements were not impeded by the belly, the size of it made it easy to tell that it was a pregnant sow.

It seemed that this sow was about to give birth soon, currently looking for a safe place.

But the Three Demons and one dog had been fussing around nearby, making loud noises and walking with unrestrained steps.

The forest was usually very quiet, making it hard for anyone to ignore them.

The pregnant wild boar charged towards them, and the Three Demons and Xiaotian Dog leapt into the air, standing mid-flight.

As they took to the air, they also managed to cover up their scent. The sow sniffed around for a while and did not detect any targets.

However, she did not leave immediately, instead sniffing around the spot to see if the uninvited guests had gone.

Golden-Winged Great Roc looked at the sow, puzzled, "What’s going on? Weren’t we here to find Tian Peng? Why haven’t we seen Tian Peng, yet we found this wild boar?"

"Exactly. Are we still looking for that peasant woman? Could it be that she has been eaten by this sow ready to give birth?" Roc Demon King said.

"Ah?!" the Golden-Winged Great Roc exclaimed in shock, "What should we do? If the pregnant peasant woman was eaten by the wild boar, what about Tian Peng? Does he need to find someone else to reincarnate through? What is the Jade Emperor thinking? Is he deliberately making Tian Peng suffer?"

"No, there was never any pregnant peasant woman," Xiaotian Dog said.

"What?" Roc Demon King bellowed, "Then what’s going on? Why did you bring us here? Where is Tian Peng? Where is..."

Roc Demon King stopped halfway through, probably having guessed what was happening. So, from the very beginning, there was no pregnant peasant woman; it was always this sow.
