Chapter 496: Chapter 496: Triumph and Demise, Both Because of the Jade Rabbit

"Fairy Chang’e, you are mistaken," Chen Nuo chuckled. "Were we not just discussing whether that child’s life pattern had changed after meeting me? How could it simply be the good fortune she cultivated in her past life? If she had not met me, she would have grown up following the rules and toeing the line."

When Yang Chan heard that Chen Nuo had no children and had only adopted the child, a great weight finally lifted from her heart.

Remembering the topic they had just discussed, she quickly asked, "Then, Shopkeeper Chen, do you intend to bring the child you adopted to the Mountain of Mind and Heart?"

"Indeed," Chen Nuo nodded. "After all, I am a chef, and I don’t always consider things thoroughly, often overlooking details. If it weren’t for your reminder, I truly wouldn’t have thought of the other matters."

"So, I have decided, after tomorrow, no, after this banquet is over, I will go to the mortal realm to bring her to the Mountain of Mind and Heart, where she will live with me."

"In that case, this should be the best thing for that child," Yang Chan nodded.

"Child, what child?" Jin Zha had an insatiable thirst for gossip.

He had been competing in a drinking contest with others, but when he had his fill, he planned to stop for a rest, and that’s when he overheard the gossip here.

The conversation initially involved only Yang Jian and Chen Nuo and had escaped others’ notice. Yang Jian saw that the conversation was between goddesses, intent on getting closer to Chen Nuo, and wisely stayed silent, blending in as if invisible.

Even after overhearing many shocking pieces of gossip, he remained tight-lipped. Unexpectedly, Jin Zha, not reading the room, just blurted out his inquiry about the gossip.

"It’s nothing," Although Chen Nuo hadn’t spent much time with Jin Zha, he understood his clingy nature, like sticking to chewing gum, impossible to get rid of once attached.

Therefore, Chen Nuo cleverly chose to sidestep the conversation, "That’s a nice outfit you’ve chosen, how was it made?"

As soon as the topic of clothing came up, Jin Zha lit up, "Right? I also think the choice of clothing is pretty good. It can’t be helped; personal taste is evident, it’s hard not to look good."

Not only was Jin Zha bad at reading the room, he was a chatterbox. Once he started talking, he couldn’t stop. After he rambled for a while, the fairies found it uninteresting and silently continued drinking.

Chang’e saw a rabbit scratching the wall in the corner and quickly got up to pick it up.

When preparing for the banquet, Chang’e had enlisted the Jade Rabbit to help watch over the other rabbits.

Being a rabbit itself, the Jade Rabbit could communicate with these rabbits, and that’s why Chang’e felt comfortable entrusting them to its care.

Yet here they were, halfway through the banquet, and she caught a rabbit scratching the wall. It was quite outrageous; the Jade Rabbit was slacking off. She was going to have to give it a good scolding.

Carrying the rabbit, Chang’e began to look around for the Jade Rabbit. She searched but couldn’t find it anywhere.

Perplexed, Chang’e wondered if the Jade Rabbit had gone to the backyard, where there were more rabbits than in the front. So, with the rabbit in her arms, she headed to the backyard to seek out the Jade Rabbit.

Despite all being chubby and white, having lived with the Jade Rabbit for so long allowed Chang’e to identify it at a glance.

And indeed, after searching the backyard, she found the Jade Rabbit asleep, clutching a bottle of wine.

Chang’e scolded angrily, "Jade Rabbit, what is the meaning of this? Did I not ask you to watch over these rabbits? To think you came here to drink instead. Are you disregarding my commands? Do you want to be punished?"

"I’m really sorry, Fairy Chang’e," the Jade Rabbit said, burping from the alcohol, "This wine is just too delicious, I couldn’t resist its aroma. All the dishes served here are my kin, and I can’t eat them, so having a few sips of wine isn’t too much, right? How could you punish me for that?"

"You disobey me, come here to drink, and now you think you have a point?" Chang’e put the rabbit down on the ground.

"I’m giving you three seconds to get rid of the smell of alcohol on you. If you don’t obey, next time Chaos Residence asks for rabbit dishes, I’ll send you there, and I mean what I say!" Chang’e threatened.

The threat was indeed effective. Upon hearing these words, the Jade Rabbit hadn’t even used a spell before half of the alcohol scent was gone, and it hurriedly dispelled the rest with magic.

"Alright, alright, Fairy Chang’e, I was wrong, I was wrong. I’m your most adorable little rabbit, you can’t send me to the Chaos Residence, please!"

Of course, what Chang’e said was not true; she was merely threatening it. Now, seeing the Jade Rabbit admitting its mistake, Chang’e snorted coldly, "Fine, you watch over these rabbits for me. There are still guests in the front yard, and don’t let me see any of the rabbits scratching the walls again, or you’ll be held accountable!"

The Jade Rabbit nodded vigorously, just about to reply, but then saw a dark shadow behind Chang’e, "Fairy Chang’e, what’s that behind you?"

Chang’e had been talking to the Jade Rabbit and hadn’t noticed the situation behind her. Besides, she had drunk a bit of wine—not enough to be drunk, but it still affected her reflexes.

Hearing what the Jade Rabbit said, Chang’e turned around. The area behind her, which had been clear and bright, was now enveloped in darkness, with a wall blocking her path.

Looking up, Chang’e locked eyes with the person who was gazing down at her in a trance, startling her into stepping back, "Who, who are you?"

After retreating a few steps, she could finally see clearly. It was none other than Tian Peng, whom she had invited to a grand feast at Guanghan Palace.

Tian Peng, having drunk alcohol, was emboldened by an indescribable courage that seemingly appeared out of nowhere, and decided to confess his feelings to Chang’e.

He had seen Chang’e holding a rabbit and coming to the backyard, thinking it was the perfect opportunity to make his feelings clear to her.

His relationship with Chang’e had already progressed quite a bit, who knows when Chang’e might start to like him back? So, confessing now, if she accepted, would be such a great opportunity.

Thus, he went over without notifying anyone, fearful that if Chang’e rejected him, she wouldn’t broadcast the event, and neither would he.

Then the matter would remain secret—successful confession would mean winning the beauty, and failure wouldn’t matter, as no one else would know.

As Chang’e turned and made eye contact with Tian Peng, he smiled at her, "Fairy Chang’e, I have something to tell you."

What Tian Peng didn’t know was that his smile, in that particular context, looked particularly ferocious, especially since he had silently appeared behind Chang’e without a word, just giving her a smile.

For Tian Peng, there was nothing wrong, but from Chang’e’s perspective, it seemed awfully sinister, as though he was preparing for a murder and disposal of the body.

Chang’e paused, then backed away two more steps. She exchanged glances with the Jade Rabbit, signaling it to quickly get someone.

The Jade Rabbit got the message and immediately reacted. It turned around, ready to run out from the other end to alert the people outside, but as soon as it moved, it was immobilized by Tian Peng’s spell.

"Tian Peng, what are you planning to do?" The Jade Rabbit was both frightened and angry, dropping any respectful title for Tian Peng.
