Journey to the West: Signing in for 500 Years-Chapter 513 - 507: It’s Me Who Didn’t Take a Shine to the Saint [Seeking Subscriptions and Monthly Tickets]_1
PFFT.
Maitreya Buddha almost spat out a mouthful of old blood in anger.
The so-called respect from Sha Chen was worse than no respect at all, a supreme humiliation that filled him with rage.
"Sha Chen, you’ve gone too far, cease your arrogance."
With a stern shout, Maitreya Buddha gripped the Realm Breaking Hammer in one hand and seized a Nine-ring Tin Staff with the other. The light of Buddhism shone behind him, and golden lotuses sprouted at his feet.
He bellowed, "Since you’re so brazen today, don’t blame me for not being polite. I’ll subdue you and take you to Lingjiu Mountain for punishment."
Sha Chen sneered, "Maitreya, this is the Mustard Space, there are no outsiders here, and this is the territory of Flowing Sand River, where the Heavenly Dao is obscure. Even Saints wouldn’t be aware of what happens here, so stop pretending."
Maitreya Buddha huffed, looking around warily.
Apparently verifying the truth of Sha Chen’s words.
After a brief verification, he was certain that Sha Chen was not lying. This place was indeed the Mustard Space, and the Heavenly Dao at the Flowing Sand River was indeed obscure.
Therefore, what happened here wouldn’t easily be known to the outside world.
He actually felt relieved and let out a sigh.
He also stopped pretending. A sense of calm composure, along with a mocking smile, settled on his face.
"Since this place is the Mustard Space, and it’s shielded from the Heavenly Dao, you still dare to show up. You really are bold."
Maitreya Buddha said, "Initially, I was worried that if I captured you and the world came to know, others would inevitably demand a share of you, and I’d lose out a great deal."
"Now that the whole world is unaware, I can keep your secrets and wealth all to myself."
Sha Chen shook his head, "It’s just as I expected. Even Buddhas can’t avoid being greedy. You’re known as the Laughing Buddha, yet you’re so greedy. I can only imagine what the others are like."
However, Maitreya Buddha replied, "The reason why I betrayed my master and joined Buddhism was to become stronger. Now everything I do is for the sake of strength. This is not greed, but staying true to my heart."
"If joining Buddhism doesn’t make me stronger, then I will leave. If defeating you makes me stronger, then you will have to surrender your life."
As he spoke, his Nine-ring Tin Staff was already pointing at Sha Chen, his gaze filled with mockery.
"There’s no escape for you now, better surrender quietly."
Sha Chen chuckled, "To think you’re a Buddha, and you’ve encountered me before. Don’t you understand me well enough yet?"
Maitreya Buddha frowned, indeed recalling Sha Chen’s character, but then he sensed something amiss.
Sha Chen was cautious and self-reliant, the type who wouldn’t recklessly engage in combat, yet now he dared to come out. Could it be that something unknown to him had happened?
However, Maitreya racked his brain but couldn’t figure out why Sha Chen would dare to show up.
The most likely scenario he could think of was that Sha Chen’s abode had been usurped by other powerful individuals, but he felt it was unlikely.
He then wondered if perhaps Sha Chen had the backing of a Saint, hence his fearlessness.
If that were the case, it would be very likely.
Maitreya Buddha said, "Could it be that you think having the backing of a Saint will let you escape this disaster!?"
He confidently said, "Heh, you think too highly of yourself. I know that Tongtian Holy Man and Saint Lao Zi have both visited your Flowing Sand River, but if you think they would lift a finger for you, you’re too arrogant."
Sha Chen’s heart tightened. He hadn’t expected Maitreya Buddha to know that the Tongtian Hierarch and Lao Zi had been there. It seemed the Flowing Sand River was not completely isolated after all.
But a quick internal calculation revealed how it had been disclosed.
It was Ran Deng Buddha who, after his visit, became aware of the Tongtian Hierarch’s presence here, and Tianpeng spread the word that The sage Laozi had been here.
Including the matter of the Tongtian Hierarch imparting skills to Tianpeng and him, which Tianpeng also spoke of, confirming Ran Deng Buddha’s speculation.
Sha Chen wanted to go back right now and turn Tianpeng into a human lantern; that guy was truly useless at anything but causing trouble.
Meanwhile, Tianpeng inside the abode also sensed Sha Chen’s malice and trembled, wishing he knew how to leave, ready to flee if he could.
Believing he had guessed Sha Chen’s reliance correctly, Maitreya Buddha smiled triumphantly, "Saints should not intervene in matters below the realm of Saints. During the great battles between witches and demons, they did not interfere. What’s more, in such a trivial matter between you and me."
Actually, Maitreya Buddha was not mistaken. In the ancient war between witches and demons, the twelve Ancestral Witches and numerous emperors of the Demon Clan fought, shattering the heavens and splitting the earth, drying up the seas and crumbling the rocks.
Even so, the Saints did not intervene.
To avoid interfering in the war between witches and demons, the Saints even went as far as to create what is now known as Da Luo Tian in the thirty-three skies.
Living within Da Luo Tian, they continuously opened up worlds, only taking action as the war between witches and demons was about to end.
But their action was not to stop the war. It was to maintain the Realm of People, preventing it from being annihilated in the midst of the great war.
After all, the Saints had also ascended relying on the Realm of People, which was their foundation. Naturally, they would not allow it to be destroyed.
There is also another saying: that the Saints felt a tremendous threat from beings like the twelve Ancestral Witches and Emperor Jun Donghuang.
Both witches and demons had means capable of slaying and opposing the Saints, so they had to grind both races to extinction.
Letting them destroy each other was the best outcome.
For this purpose, they created Da Luo Tian and remained indifferent to the war between witches and demons.
No matter the reason, the Saints’ non-interference in others’ matters seemed to have been passed down from then on, and it was rare for Saints to break this principle.
It was only during the Divine Enthronement war that the Saints also got involved in the battle. This was because it concerned the fortunes of the Saints themselves, so they shamelessly fought against those beneath them.
However, Tongtian Hierarch did not fight to kill any individual beneath the Saints alone, while Laozi, Yuan Shi, and the other two Saints of the West did personally slay others.
It was always the strong bullying the weak.
Later generations, however, tended to believe that the Divine Enthronement war was special. Saints got involved because those beneath them supposedly posed a threat to the Saints, so they took action to kill.
It was clear that neither Sha Chen nor Maitreya Buddha could threaten the Saints, so they certainly would not take action.
Anyway, that’s what Maitreya Buddha believed.
Sha Chen shook his head and said, "You are wrong."
Maitreya frowned with a stern face, "Could it be that you have taken Tongtian Hierarch or The sage Laozi as your master? Even if so, as their direct disciples, they cannot intervene in our grudge."
But Sha Chen said, "I’m laughing at how naive and self-righteous you are."
"I am not their direct disciple. If I were, you wouldn’t dare to bully me like this. They wouldn’t stick to any conventional agreements; if they should kill you, they would kill you."
Maitreya Buddha pursed his lips; this was undeniably true.
People only deceive themselves. Did they really think that Saints have good temperaments and ignore worldly affairs?!
It’s just that the Saints consider taking action unprofitable. If there were benefits to be gained, they wouldn’t hesitate to kill even a Quasi-Saint, let alone crush an ant. They would do so personally and proclaim it to the world.
Furthermore, if the Saints really wanted to take action, they would have plenty of reasons to do so.
Merely bullying the direct disciple of a Saint would suffice as a reason for Saints to intervene.
After all, the reason Laozi, Yuan Shi, and others took action during the Divine Enthronement war was similar to that.
However, Maitreya Buddha also discerned some information from Sha Chen’s words.
It seemed Sha Chen was not a disciple of the Saints. Even with his strength, the Saints hadn’t favored him?! 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
No, that’s not right.
It was he who hadn’t favored the Saints!
Still, that was even more impossible.
So, what was going on?!
At this moment, Maitreya Buddha was somewhat confused because of this.
He failed to notice that Sha Chen plainly stated, "The reason I dare to come out does not involve any backing from the Saints, but purely because I believe you pose no threat to me!"
