Chapter 243: Carriages, Chaos, and Charm ( 243 )

Hazuki waited patiently at the front gate, arms crossed, as the kids excitedly climbed into the two-carriage convoy.

The coachman held the door open with practiced courtesy, and each child found their spot.

In the first carriage, Elvia had already claimed her space on the left side, brushing invisible dust off her dress.

Chasia jumped in and sat on the right, arms folded, one eyebrow raised.

That left one seat in the middle open.

A few of the boys moved closer.

"Hey! There’s still a spot—"

But both girls turned at once, eyes shining with subtle threat.

"Sit with the others," Chasia said flatly.

"Mister Hazuki’s seat is here," Elvia added, not even looking at them.

"Ehh... but—"

"Sit. With. Other," both girls said in perfect unison.

The boys froze in place.

"U-Um... okay..."

Hazuki scratched his head and yawned, slowly stepping aboard.

He looked around and saw the empty middle seat.

He sat down with a sigh, arms lazily hanging at his sides.

Immediately, Chasia latched onto his left arm.

Elvia took his right, gripping gently but firmly.

Hazuki blinked.

"...You two are clingy, you know that?"

"Mister Hazuki is warm," Elvia whispered.

"And mine~," Chasia said with a grin.

Just then, Ridan floated in through the closed carriage wall, grinning ear to ear.

"Heh~ First Ellyn... now these two... ohoho~ are you a magnet for kids?"

Hazuki scowled.

"Oi!! Language!!"

"What? I didn’t say anything dirty. Yet," Ridan teased.

Hazuki slumped back, letting the girls cling to him as the carriage began to roll forward slowly.

"Uncle?" Chasia asked sweetly, still holding his arm.

Hazuki looked at her, raising an eyebrow. "What? Before this, you called me by my name. Now it’s Uncle? What do you want?"

"Ehehe~ Nothing~," Chasia giggled, swinging her legs slightly.

"Such a weird kid..." Hazuki muttered, leaning his head back.

"Uncle?" This time, it was Elvia.

"Huh? What now?" Hazuki grumbled.

"There’s a dance later, right?" she asked, tilting her head.

"I don’t know. Probably. It’s a noble party," he replied.

Chasia grinned. "If there’s a dance... dance with me, okay?"

"No! Uncle will dance with me first!" Elvia shot back with a pout.

Hazuki blinked. "Huh? I never agreed to dance!"

Both girls leaned in, eyes big, faces bright.

"Pleaseee~"

Hazuki froze.

"Ugh..." he looked away, flustered. "I said I don’t know! We’ll see later, alright?!"

"Yaaay~"

"He didn’t say no~"

From above, Ridan smirked like a devil.

"Ohoho~ Hazuki, the child magnet, and now the dance prince too? Should I start calling you Sugar Daddy~?"

The carriage bounced slightly as it rolled down the cobbled road.

Hazuki crossed his arms and grumbled.

"This is going to be the most exhausting night of my life..."

As the carriages rolled along the stone-paved road in Macia’s inner district, Hazuki leaned slightly forward and tapped on the wooden partition.

"Oi, stop at the bank first," he called out to the coachman.

"Yes, sir!"

Chasia tilted her head, curious.

"The bank?"

Elvia looked interested too.

"Do we need money to go to the party?"

Hazuki yawned.

"No. Gotta drop some gold into Kisha’s account. Brat fund."

Ridan floated near his shoulder.

"You mean management fund, you stingy softie."

"Same thing," Hazuki muttered.

Soon, the carriage slowed as the coachman called out,

"We’ve arrived at the Macia Central Bank, sir."

Hazuki stretched his legs and stood up lazily.

"Alright, you all stay in the carriage. I’ll be back in five. Don’t break anything, don’t bite anyone, and no stealing."

"I don’t bite!" Chasia puffed out her cheeks.

"We’re not babies, Uncle..." Elvia mumbled.

"Yeah, yeah. Just don’t cause trouble," Hazuki said with a sigh, hopping out with his boots thudding on the stone.

He headed toward the short steps of the bank, with Ridan floating beside him.

"You realize this makes you look responsible, right? You sure you’re okay with that?"

Hazuki groaned.

"I’ll deal with that shame later. Right now, I’m just doing my job."

"Oi, lady!! What are you waiting inside the carriage!?" Hazuki called from halfway up the bank stairs, waving his hand impatiently.

"Y-Yes!" Kisha jumped, flustered, and quickly stepped down from the carriage in her modest formal dress.

"Let’s go. Fast!"

"C-Coming!!" she replied, hurriedly trying to keep up, nearly tripping on the cobblestones in her nervous rush.

Ridan floated lazily behind them, arms behind his head, smirking.

"For someone who doesn’t like people, you sure boss them around like a seasoned husband."

"Shut up. I just want this done. Fast. Before something stupid happens," Hazuki muttered.

As they entered the bank’s grand front doors, a few well-dressed customers glanced at the sight of a grumpy, black-haired man stomping in like he owned the place, followed by a flustered woman adjusting her sleeves.

The teller’s eyes widened instantly when Hazuki approached the counter.

"Y-You’re... Mister Hazuki? From the adventurer guild?"

"Oi, lady!! Your identity card!!" Hazuki barked, tapping his foot.

"Y-Yes!!" Kisha fumbled in her pouch, quickly pulling out her identification plate.

She handed it over with both hands.

"And those coins too! Move it!"

"R-Right!!"

She placed the pouch of gold coins on the counter, still flustered.

The teller, now wide-eyed and trying not to make any sudden moves around the grumpy man in front of him, nodded quickly.

He took the pouch and the card, then carefully placed the ID plate on a glowing magic orb embedded in the counter.

The orb shimmered briefly, reacting to her mana imprint.

The teller bowed slightly and handed her the plate back.

Hazuki turned on his heel.

"Alright. Let’s go!"

Kisha gave a small bow to the teller and hurried after him.

As they exited the bank, Ridan floated beside Hazuki, smirking.

"Now that’s what I call a proper transaction. Efficient. Brutal. Slightly terrifying."

Hazuki grunted.

"Whatever."

They both stepped out of the bank as the sun was sinking lower in the sky.

Hazuki squinted at the carriages, seeing the kids leaning out of the windows, waving and shouting at some birds.

"Count the kids! Make sure none are missing!" he barked at Kisha without looking back.

"Y-Yes!!" Kisha nodded sharply and hurried toward the first carriage.

He crossed his arms, watching as the children scrambled—some trying to peek out, others shouting each other’s names to hurry.

"All here!" Elvia declared proudly.

"Confirmed!" Kisha called back to Hazuki.

"Good. Let’s go! Coachman! Head to the party place—whatever it’s called!"

Hazuki yawned mid-sentence and climbed into the carriage.

The carriages started rolling again, heading toward the grand estate of Viscount Gurman.
