ISEKAI? More like I See Crap!-Chapter 215: Closing the Rift ( )
Chapter 215: Closing the Rift ( 215 )
Blades flashed brilliantly under the cold glow of the moon.
In a blur of swift movements, Gikan spun around, one short blade slicing across a troll’s exposed thigh, while the other arced upward in a smooth, practiced motion, opening the beast’s chest in a clean strike.
The creature crashed down mid-roar, but even before its body hit the ground.
Two more monsters replaced it.
Their claws scraped loudly against the stone, saliva hissing menacingly from their jaws.
Gikan’s face remained steady, but his breathing grew sharper, tense with the fight.
This isn’t normal.
Two monsters taken down. Two more appear instantly. It feels like it never ends.
He leapt back just in time as one of the new threats lunged toward him, slashing its arm clean off at the elbow. Gikan retaliated with another swift swing, slicing through its throat and dropping it. But the second beast was already rushing toward him again.
Gikan flipped his sword into a reverse grip and slid beneath the attack—then thrust both blades upward into the beast’s ribs, twisting hard before ripping them out. Its body collapsed with a guttural roar.
Another deafening roar echoed behind him.
More monsters were coming.
Gikan’s eye twitched. Frustration and urgency flickered across his face.
Damn it.
It’s not the monsters that are the problem. It’s the rift. That cursed rift.
His gaze turned toward the swirling, floating mass in the air—a dark maw of shadows and arcane smoke, like a gaping mouth ready to swallow everything.
"Mages!!" he shouted over the clang of steel and snarls.
A group of robed beastkin turned away from their formation, panting, their staff-hands glowing with magic.
"Yes, Deputy Guild Master!?"
He pointed his sword at the rift, voice sharp with authority.
"Stop wasting your spells on these monsters! Focus all your power on the rift! Hit it with everything you’ve got!"
"Understood!!"
The mages began chanting, their voices rising in unison. They weaved glowing symbols with their fingers, preparing their powerful spells. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Behind Gikan, two more monsters pushed through the thinning barrier of the rift.
He didn’t wait for their chants to finish.
He charged forward.
Gikan spun his blades once, then snapped his left hand forward.
A blazing magic circle erupted into existence, bright orange and pulsating with energy, hovering just above his palm.
"Multi-cast: Fireburst Spiral,"
The circle spun rapidly.
Five fireballs shot out in quick succession, spiraling like a deadly shotgun blast of flames directly toward the rift.
They struck the swirling black maw, causing it to tremble violently, the surface rippling like glass under immense pressure.
But Gikan didn’t wait to see the full effect.
From the side, another monster lunged. A scaled brute with thick, clubbed arms and a wolf-like growl.
Gikan twisted his body, ducks under the attack, and slashed upward, carving through the creature’s shoulder into its neck. The beast gurgled and collapsed, dead.
"Hold the front! Keep your line tight!" he shouted to the adventurers behind him.
"Yes, sir!!"
Two shieldbearers moved up to block the gap, while a spear-wielding woman thrust between them, piercing a charging goblin.
Above the fortress walls, archers let loose a barrage of arrows, slicing through the advancing enemies. One arrow pinned a crawling monster to the stone, while another pierced an ogre’s eye with a wet crunch.
"Mage team!! Second volley, now!" Gikan barked without turning around.
"Channeling!" came the reply.
The rift roared again, spewing another wave of twisted, snarling beasts, claws scraping along the stone surface.
Gikan’s eyes narrowed, filled with fierce determination.
"We’re closing that damn rift tonight," he muttered.
Then he stepped forward again, both blades at the ready, the faint glow of fire still dancing along his fingers.
His blades flickered through flesh. Parrying, slicing, countering. One blade stabbed into a troll’s exposed ribs, while the other chopped off the wrist of a serpent-like beast mid-attack.
Then, with a precise twist, he spun around and drove his palm forward.
A new magic circle flared to life, spinning with a fierce orange glow.
"Ignition Barrage!" he commanded.
Three massive fireballs erupted from the circle, each crashing through the air with thunderous power. They spiraled directly into the rift, detonating with explosive force.
Cracks spiderwebbed across the surface.
The rift trembled violently, surface rippling like fragile glass on the verge of shattering.
Behind him, the adventurers fought desperately to hold their ground.
"Push them back! Maintain the formation! Don’t let them encircle us!"
"Roger that!!"
From the wall, archers unleashed another volley of arrows, piercing several beastkin as they tried to claw their way through the defenses.
The monsters hissed and shrieked, some falling to the flames, others climbing over fallen comrades to press the attack.
A massive, hulking beast, twice as large as a man, charged from the side toward Gikan.
He didn’t flinch.
Instead, he tossed one blade into the air, caught it in reverse grip, and quickly triggered another spell with his free hand.
"Combustion Slash!"
His sword ignited in roaring flames as he met the charging creature head-on.
One swing.
A trail of fire.
A clean, diagonal slash through muscle and bone.
The beast dropped mid-charge, smoke hissing from the shattered wound.
Gikan turned his focus back to the rift.
Fissures resembling spiderwebs spread across its surface, glowing with unstable energy.
"More magic! Keep targeting the rift!" he shouted.
"Next spell ready!" the mages behind him called out, their glyphs shimmering in the air.
He raised both blades again, wide stance, blood dripping off the steel, prepared for the next assault.
Gikan saw it clearly. Cracks spreading across the surface of the rift like shattered glass.
The glow inside flickered wildly now, shifting between black and deep violet, unstable and dangerous.
He twisted his blades into an X-shape in front of his chest.
"Fortis Burst," he commanded.
A wave of golden energy surged from his body. Reinforcement magic that wrapped around his limbs, flowing over his armor. It strengthened his stance, sharpened his senses, and boosted his speed.
His eyes flashed with determination as his muscles tensed, ready for the next move.
"Mages! Focus your spells on the monsters spilling out! I’ll handle the rift!!"
"Yes, sir!!"
As the adventurers tightened their formation and the mages prepared their barrage, Gikan lowered himself into a fighting stance, blades pointed downward, one glowing with blue ice, the other shimmering with fiery energy.
He lunged forward, leaving a crater in the stone beneath him.
Three monsters blocked his path.
They didn’t have a chance to react.
He dodged under the first’s claw, slashed both its legs out from underneath it. All in one swift motion, without losing momentum.
The second monster lunged at him. Gikan parried its strike upward and then drove his ice-encrusted blade straight into its throat, freezing the wound as the beast gagged and dropped.
The third beast roared and swung a heavy club.
Gikan jumped, twisted in midair, and hurled his blade like a spear, straight into the creature’s skull.
Before the monster hit the ground, Gikan had already landed in front of the rift.
"Ice Spikes."
The spell circle appeared beneath him, blue, sharp, humming with energy.
With a thunderous roar, he slammed both hands down.
From the base of the rift, dozens of jagged ice spears shot upward, piercing the cracks, driving into the magical seams. They tore through the unstable vortex, destabilizing it further.
The rift howled. a wind-like scream that seemed to bend reality itself.
Then, with a deafening shudder, it shattered.
A shockwave burst outward, tossing dust and wind across the battlefield.
The monsters still trying to come through were caught in the collapse, bodies torn apart or crushed as the passage between worlds was violently sealed.
Silence.
A moment of breathless relief.
A sigh.
Victory.
Gikan stood there, panting, one blade still in his hand, the other embedded in a corpse nearby.
He turned slowly to survey the field.
The battlefield was scarred and battered.
But the line held.
