Invincible through Touching Corpses-Chapter 39: High-Speed Escape
On one side, Roger was quickly packing the Energy Crystal Stones.
On the other, Fang Tianhe and Wu Yan were busy working throughout the Energy Room.
They took out what looked like timers and placed them methodically in every corner of the Energy Room.
Then, they took out Hand Cannon Bullets and connected them to these "timers."
Seeing this, Lin Xinghai roughly understood what they were doing. ’They must be making bombs.’
When a full 100 Hand Cannon Bullets had been placed throughout the Energy Room, Lin Xinghai felt his scalp tingle.
Don’t let their small size fool you; the power of these Hand Cannon Bullets was comparable to a 20th-century Grenade Cannon. If 100 of them were detonated simultaneously, the resulting force would be no less than that of a medium-sized missile.
Finally, Fang Tianhe carefully took an oval-shaped metal sphere from his backpack.
After he pressed an activation button, the metal sphere quickly sprouted mechanical legs and stood up, resembling a metal spider.
A red light was flashing on the metal spider’s abdomen. As it pulsed, the timers distributed around the Energy Room also began to flash red.
Soon, all the red lights were flashing in perfect sync.
"It’s calibrated! A Type-I spider bomb combined with all these Hand Cannon Bullets should be more than enough to give that Mutated Zombie a hard time." Fang Tianhe finally let out a sigh of relief.
"If it’s not particularly alert and doesn’t flee the Energy Room immediately, we might even be able to blow it to smithereens," Wu Yan added.
Within the Mercenary Corps, Roger was the part-time hacker, while Wu Yan was the part-time demolitions expert.
"Then let’s get out of here! I’ve got a bad feeling about this," Xu Haishui chimed in. He activated his Werewolf Superpower, picked up two of the collapsible crates, and headed for the exit.
Roger quickly stowed his tools in his combat backpack and also picked up two collapsible crates.
Lin Xinghai wanted to help carry one of the crates, but he quickly discovered they were anything but light.
A simple calculation would have told him that. The entire Energy Crystal Stone weighed 1.5348 metric tons. Even cut into eight pieces, each piece still weighed over 420 pounds.
With his 21 points in Power, Lin Xinghai could lift one, but it would be extremely strenuous and severely impact his Speed.
Of course, Fang Tianhe hadn’t chosen him for his carrying capacity. So, in the end, Lin Xinghai didn’t take a crate. The only other person not carrying one was Fang Tianhe himself.
The former’s Power was insufficient, while the latter needed to maintain peak combat readiness.
After leaving the Energy Room, the squad immediately started jogging back the way they came.
Of course, what they called a jog would be an all-out sprint for an ordinary person.
At this pace, and with the path back having been mostly cleared of Zombies, they could get out in two minutes at most.
Sometimes two minutes is a short time, not even enough for a few words of conversation. But other times, it’s an eternity—long enough to decide life and death.
Less than twenty seconds after they left the Energy Room, a piercing alarm blared from inside Wu Yan’s combat backpack.
He had a small Zombie Detector in his backpack, but it had been rendered useless by the interference from the Energy Crystal Stone on their way down.
But now, the Energy Crystal Stone had stabilized and was no longer emitting an energy field, allowing the Zombie Detector to finally function.
Hearing the alarm, everyone’s expression changed. The Zombie Detector used different alerts for different types of Zombies.
Even a rookie like Lin Xinghai, who was on his first mission, remembered this particular alarm vividly.
It was the alarm that only sounded when a Mutated Zombie was detected!
"This small Zombie Detector only has a range of 300 meters." Wu Yan’s lips trembled as he spoke.
meters. Given the terrifying Speed of a Mutated Zombie, that was frighteningly close.
If they hadn’t prepared that little surprise, they would have been as good as dead.
At that moment, without needing any orders, everyone broke into a desperate sprint.
BOOM!
They had barely run a few dozen meters when a deafening explosion roared behind them, shaking the very ground beneath their feet.
Lin Xinghai glanced back, his pupils constricting. The entire corridor was showing signs of collapse. A violent, fiery shockwave was hurtling down the passage toward them.
"Faster! The stairs are just ahead!" Fang Tianhe yelled. As he shouted, he turned to help the two members at the rear with their collapsible crates.
At this point, Lin Xinghai didn’t hesitate to activate his Rapid Superpower.
He didn’t have the Power to help carry the crates, so he just shot forward, WHOOSH, to the front of the group. He kicked the fire door open, saving the team precious seconds.
Fortunately, they weren’t far from the stairs. They scrambled onto the B2 level just in the nick of time, moments before the shockwave engulfed the area.
"I might have overdone it with the explosives," Wu Yan said with an embarrassed chuckle.
Any slower and they would have been in real trouble.
The ground beneath them was still shaking; the collapse was ongoing. If they didn’t get out in time, they might actually be buried alive.
"Something’s wrong. The Mutated Zombie isn’t dead," Fang Tianhe said, pushing the team to keep moving. The Zombie Detector in Wu Yan’s combat backpack was still blaring its warning!
On the B2 level, the commotion had stirred up numerous Zombies, which now began to wander out. Fang Tianhe had already handed the crates back to the two squad members and was now clearing a path with his Great Saber.
At the same time, he used his wrist-mounted computer to call for aid from Shen Han, who was on standby above.
This was where Lin Xinghai’s Gun Technique finally came into play. He fired continuously, coordinating with Fang Tianhe to kill the wandering Zombies and keep the team moving at high speed.
But there wasn’t a hint of relief on anyone’s face. They all felt a chill run down their spines, as if they were being watched.
The stronger a person’s Perception Power, the more intense this feeling became.
"Why is it acting like it’s completely uninjured? Its Speed hasn’t dropped at all! 200 meters... 180... 150... 130..."
Lin Xinghai glanced back. At some point, Wu Yan had taken the small Zombie Detector out of his backpack. Every number he called out was like a Life-Ending Talisman.
By the time they reached the stairs on the B2 level, the Mutated Zombie was only 110 meters away.
A hint of despair crept into Lin Xinghai’s eyes. At the Mutated Zombie’s Speed, he wasn’t sure if they could even make it back to the first floor, let alone escape the Star Shield Shelter entirely.
However, what drove Lin Xinghai deeper into despair was that when they reached the B1 level via the stairwell, the remaining Zombies from the assembly workshop had, for some unknown reason, all converged at the stairwell entrance.
This was just making a terrible situation even worse!
"Follow me and jump! We can still make it!" Fang Tianhe shouted, leaping onto a nearby support frame connected to the spaceship. He then launched himself upward again, straight toward the Alloy ceiling.
Lin Xinghai was stunned at first, but he quickly saw Fang Tianhe’s entire body become enveloped in a black light.
It was his Superpower: Heaven-Sundering!
HISS!
With a sound like a hot knife slicing through butter, the hard Alloy ceiling instantly disintegrated into dust upon contact with the black light.
Just like that, Fang Tianhe used his Superpower to carve a path, leaping directly to the first floor.
In doing so, he opened a path to survival for the team members behind him.

A lot of readers have been asking for an extra Chapter, so I’ll be releasing one more tonight.
It’s not that I don’t want to write more; it’s a matter of my personal capacity.
I’m a naturally slow typist. Normally, it takes me three hours to write and edit a single Chapter.
On top of that, my daughter is just over four months old, and I have to help take care of her. There are so many miscellaneous chores: preparing formula, grabbing diapers, boiling water, sterilizing bottles, and so on.
While these tasks are quick, they’re very fragmented. When I’m in the middle of writing and get called away to help, my train of thought breaks, and any creative mood I’ve built up just vanishes.
It’s a really frustrating feeling, and it ends up extending the time it takes to write a Chapter indefinitely.
So, please be understanding. I also want to write more and get the novel to the point where it can generate income sooner.
