Chapter 685: Chapter 665: A Millennium is Too Long; Seize the Day!
In the car, Song Qingyu drove calmly, with the neon lights by the roadside occasionally spilling over her, making her seem like an immortal. Tangyu sat quietly in the passenger seat like a peaceful prince, gazing at Song Qingyu with deep affection in his eyes. No music played; the car was silent, like a world of their own. A warm atmosphere lingered, creating a pleasant feeling. It was the first time such warmth had emerged between the two of them.
Song Qingyu focused on driving. She was aware that Tangyu was looking at her; in fact, she had always been conscious of it but didn’t want to turn around—or perhaps she dared not to. She feared breaking the harmonious atmosphere, blushing, or even more so, losing control over her emotions.
Then the car gradually halted at a red light.
Song Qingyu pursed her lips, turned to look at Tangyu, and after they locked eyes for a while, she spoke, "Zhou Hequan asked you to spare his Zhou Family?"
Tangyu nodded. It was not surprising for Song Qingyu to think of these things, as she was an incredibly intelligent woman. Anyone who thought about it carefully could figure out the situation: "Zhou Hequan really parted with quite a fortune, even willing to give me the Zhou Family’s Eighth Layer of wealth."
"You agreed?" Song Qingyu was surprised, aware of the staggering amount that the Zhou Family’s Eighth Layer of family wealth represented.
Tangyu shook his head and said, "You should understand me. I’ve never had much of a concept of money, nor any desires for it. The Zhou Family’s Eighth Layer wealth might drive countless people insane, but it can’t buy my principles. What I have to do, I will do. But Zhou Hequan miscalculated one thing—even if he hadn’t begged me, I wouldn’t have bothered to go after the Zhou Family. Only Zhou Hequan and Zhou Tao are my concern, and once they’re gone, I won’t pursue the matter further. After all, I can’t afford to waste my time on them."
Song Qingyu was momentarily taken aback, then looked at Tangyu with a glimpse of admiration in her eyes. This was Tangyu, his distinctiveness, the reason why he was so captivating to others.
An impatient honk snapped Song Qingyu back to reality; she noticed the light had turned green and resumed driving, a faint blush coloring her cheeks.
"Hmm?" Song Qingyu’s brow furrowed suddenly, for as she drove past an alley, her sharp eyes caught sight of a group engaged in a brawl, numbering over a dozen. Song Qingyu braked and stopped the car.
"They’re just a bunch of kids; it won’t amount to much," Tangyu said with a chuckle, plainly not inclined to get involved in trivial matters.
Song Qingyu raised her brows slightly and replied, "Whether it’s a big deal or not, I wouldn’t bother if I hadn’t seen it. But now that I have, I must intervene." With that, Song Qingyu got out of the car, followed by Tangyu, and they approached the mouth of the alley. The group were likely high school or college students, clearly very young, but there were indeed quite a few of them, totaling around twenty from both sides combined. Moreover, a few of them carried steel pipes and wooden sticks, though thankfully no knives were in sight.
"Police, stop right there!" Song Qingyu frowned and shouted authoritatively.
The two groups of students paused momentarily to glance at Tangyu and Song Qingyu standing at the alley entrance before continuing their fight, apparently unfazed by the police.
"These little ruffians," Song Qingyu gritted her teeth and rushed forward, not to strike the students, but to pull them apart.
Tangyu, however, showed no intention of getting involved and seemed to be enjoying the spectacle, confident that Song Qingyu could handle these youngsters.
"Damn it, let’s take down that chick together," one of the instigator students suddenly shouted, drawing both sides’ attention to Song Qingyu. The rowdy students weren’t easy to deal with, and surprisingly, they united against Song Qingyu. Seeing this, Song Qingyu raised her voice again, "How dare you! Do you really want to attack a police officer? Believe it or not, I can detain all of you. Instead of learning to be hooligans, go back home and do your homework."
"Pfft, homework my ass. I was never one for studying, this is about being an ’Immortal,’ sister, you don’t know jack. Detain us? Just you alone, can you really take us all? And so what if you take me to the station? I’m not even of age; they’ll just have to release us after a ’tea’ anyway."
"Listen, police lady, it’s none of your business, better leave quick, or don’t blame us for not being polite."
Song Qingyu was quite infuriated. If these had been ordinary thugs, she wouldn’t have hesitated, but these were still kids. To deal with them harshly wouldn’t be right, especially since they were minors; getting physical would only lead to a heap of trouble. It wouldn’t be long before a crowd of parents came knocking at the station. Handling such situations was truly a headache for Song Qingyu, and calling for backup didn’t seem practical.
Seeing Song Qingyu’s dilemma, Tangyu chuckled, appearing heartlessly amused.
"Hehe, sister, you’re so beautiful. Be my girlfriend, huh? I’m the young master of the Immortal clan," remarked a boy made up to look like a monster, ogling Song Qingyu with a lecherous look.
Song Qingyu was genuinely furious: "Hmph, seems like you won’t listen until you’re taught a lesson." With anger, Song Qingyu sprang forward and kicked the self-proclaimed Immortal clan’s young master in the stomach, causing him to vomit up his gastric juices and cry out in agony, crouching on the ground.
