Invincible Dad-Chapter 787 Ah Lan and Chen Xin_1
Including the No Righteous Sword, this white pearl was the fourth key.
Xu Lai looked at Sikong Jiu, who hurriedly spread his hands. "This is the only one, I swear an oath on the Dao!"
You yourself are the Heavenly Dao. What good is an oath on the Dao? Xu Lai curled his lip.
He waved his hand, and the teapot flew toward the Heavenly Dao.
"All for me?" the Heavenly Dao asked, overjoyed.
The tea leaves had been steeped, true, but they came from the Hongmeng Tea Tree. Every single leaf was precious enough to drive the cultivators of the Immortal Domain mad. The pot contained seventeen of them.
Sikong Jiu’s heart bled to see Xu Lai so casually drinking this tea. These were treasured leaves cherished by the Immortal Domain, used one by one to comprehend the laws of the Dao. He hugged the teapot, grinning from ear to ear.
If I had known that a useless broken key could be traded for seventeen leaves from the Hongmeng Tea Tree, I would have brought it out much earlier, he thought.
"Stop."
"Eh?" Sikong Jiu’s expression stiffened. He said nervously, "Supreme Emperor, you can’t ask for something back once you’ve given it away."
"Leave the teapot."
"..."
Perhaps this is what it means to be a Great Emperor. The things he cares about are not for a mortal like me to comprehend, Sikong Jiu mused. Holding the tea leaves, he left the teapot behind and quickly slipped away, terrified that the Supreme Emperor would call out "stop" again.
My wife personally bought this teapot for me. How could I bear to lose it? Xu Lai thought.
He took out the No Righteous Sword again. The milky-white pearl transformed into a stream of light and entered the sword’s body. Three different dots of light began to circulate merrily inside.
Red.
Blue.
White.
They shone brilliantly, reflecting one another.
But as Xu Lai watched, he frowned slightly. He felt that something was not quite right, yet he couldn’t put his finger on it. The strange feeling in his heart grew more and more distinct.
"Do you want to enter the Nine Kings’ Palace?" Ruan Tang’s voice rang out.
Xu Lai turned his head and saw his wife leaning against the French doors, her beautiful face filled with curiosity.
After a long silence, he shook his head. "I used to. I wanted to find out some things about Jing Ke, but now... sigh."
Xu Lai let out a long sigh. He already had a rough idea of the truth behind the Emperors’ Fall, so the allure of Jing Ke and the Nine Kings’ Palace had sharply declined for him. Moreover, the Nine Kings’ Palace was not a benevolent place. Even cultivators in the Emperor Realm had fallen outside its walls, their corpses littering the Immortal Domain.
Ruan Tang hesitated.
Xu Lai walked over and hugged her, laughing teasingly. "What is it? Is there something you can’t say to me?"
Ruan Tang looked up, staring directly into his deep yet warm eyes. "Xu Lai, have you ever considered that the sword and the pearls all came to you far too easily?"
Xu Lai gradually realized the seriousness of the problem.
Indeed, the No Righteous Sword and the three pearls hadn’t been very difficult to obtain. One could even say it was all a matter of fate and coincidence. That might happen once, maybe even twice, but for it to happen over and over again was suspicious.
Xu Lai finally understood that strange premonition.
He formed a hand seal and began to divine, trying to see who was secretly pulling strings in the shadows. As long as someone had acted, they must have left behind a trace of karma. Even if the perpetrator was in the Emperor Realm, erasing those traces wouldn’t be easy; it would just take more time.
But Xu Lai’s brow soon furrowed deeply.
He found the laws of the Heavenly Dao in a state of chaos, shrouded in a mist that was impenetrable to his divinations. This situation should have been impossible. The Heavenly Dao of the Immortal Domain was unlike Earth’s Heavenly Dao, Sikong Jiu, who was terrified of death. The Immortal Domain’s Heavenly Dao was a true, unfeeling machine, devoid of the slightest emotion or warmth. It couldn’t possibly be influenced by any single person or power.
Therefore, there was a problem with the Heavenly Dao itself.
Could it be a sign that the Emperors’ Fall is approaching? The more Xu Lai thought about it, the more this guess seemed plausible. If I can’t deduce anything, then I won’t bother trying. Let whatever ghouls and demons come; I’ll face them. Even if someone is scheming in the dark, the worst that can happen is a trip to the Nine Kings’ Palace.
Xu Lai smiled. "Thank you for the reminder, honey. I’ll be careful."
"Really?" Ruan Tang sounded doubtful. "I feel like you’re not afraid at all. In fact, you almost seem... a little excited."
"Is it that obvious?" Xu Lai was taken aback.
"I knew it!" Ruan Tang pressed a hand to her forehead. "You and your pride... you’re going to get into trouble one day. You really make me worry."
"Hahaha." Xu Lai didn’t argue, instead letting out a hearty laugh.
Without pride, how could I have ever reached the peak of the Immortal Domain?
"Forget it. I’m going to take a shower," Ruan Tang said, pushing him away and walking toward the bathroom.
As if sensing his unusual intentions, she locked the door behind her. Her voice came from inside, "And no funny business tonight!"
Xu Lai was speechless. "..."
It’s not like I was planning anything. I just wanted to help my wife scrub her back and give her a massage to bring us closer. Women... they always overthink things. Is there anyone in the Immortal Domain who doesn’t know of the upright gentleman, Xu Qingfeng?
* * *
In places unseen by Xu Lai and the various powers of the Immortal Domain, dark currents were surging.
The Four Immortal Domains were boundless.
Among countless dead star systems, schools of radiant Starfish swam about at a leisurely pace. Life in the Dead Realm was scarce, almost nonexistent. These Starfish, which were transformations of the cores of dead stars, were very safe here, so they moved without a care. Their presence illuminated the lightless void with a myriad of brilliant colors.
At that moment, the school of thousands of Starfish suddenly sensed something and fled in a panic.
But it was too late.
A gaping maw suddenly opened and swallowed the school of Starfish before it in a single gulp.
HUFF.
The void returned to tranquility. If any light could have pierced the darkness, it would have revealed a massive body sprawling among the stars.
Its form resembled the Human Race. It was naked, with dark brown skin, rugged features, and a mouth that was still chewing on the Starfish it had just swallowed.
"The taste is so bland."
The giant murmured to himself as he opened his eyes. They were clean and clear, like pools of spring water.
If one looked closely, a figure of a woman could be seen standing in the giant’s deep-set eye socket. She was dressed in a long garment of animal skin and had a form similar to the Human Race.
She said angrily, "Chen Xin! The Lower Realm is very dangerous. Your one-hundred-thousand-zhang body can be easily discovered. Shrink down now!"
The giant called Chen Xin smacked his lips. "This raw fish of an unknown species is bland. Ah Lan, do we have any of the seasonings we brought from Earth?"
"We’re out!" Ah Lan said, stomping hard on the giant’s eye socket. He groaned in pain as his massive body rapidly shrank.
Chen Xin rubbed his eye, complaining, "You kicked too hard. That hurts."
Ah Lan looked at him with disdain. He just chuckled. "You should try going without clothes sometime. The feeling of intimate contact with the universe is amazing."
"..."
I’ll just ignore this idiot, Ah Lan decided.
Chen Xin looked off into the distance, his expression complicated. "I wonder how the Realm Gate is doing. Our sudden departure might have..."
"Shut up. The Realm Gate is none of our business anymore."
"Ah Lan, have we really been abandoned by The Other Shore? Does this mean... we can’t go home anymore?"
