Invincible Dad-Chapter 638 Upright Gentleman Xu Qingfeng_1
"What is this?" Ruan Tang touched her lower abdomen. She felt nothing unusual and asked in confusion.
"A drop of blood."
"Whose?"
"My father’s," Yu Guiwan said, her expression tinged with melancholy.
Ruan Tang parted her red lips but didn’t know how to comfort her Senior Sister. The room fell silent.
It was Xu Lai who sensed something was amiss. He knocked on the door. "Senior Sister, Honey, are you in there?"
Yu Guiwan opened the door. The sadness in her eyes was gone, replaced by a grin. "I’m your Senior Sister, not your wife. Don’t get us mixed up next time."
What in the world...? Xu Lai thought, then he saw the "amiable" smile on his wife’s face.
"Honey, please don’t look at me like I’m a piece of scum."
Xu Lai felt like he could vomit blood. His Senior Sister had caused a disaster one hundred thousand years ago, dragging him and their two senior brothers into cleaning up her mess. Now, she was digging a new trap for him!
"Xu Lai, come here."
"No, I’m going downstairs to continue cooking."
"Husband, come here."
When Ruan Tang changed her form of address, Xu Lai felt a chill run down his spine. He walked over, bracing for the worst, but to his surprise, his wife took his hand and placed it on her lower abdomen.
Xu Lai glanced toward the door and whispered, "Are we having a meeting?"
"Meeting my foot!" Ruan Tang blushed crimson. "Feel it. What’s inside?"
"Our child is in there."
"And?"
"There really is something else." Xu Lai frowned.
Ruan Tang asked, bewildered, "What is it? Senior Sister just..."
"An extra ounce of flab," Xu Lai praised. "As expected of my amazing wife. You can sense even the tiniest change."
"Xu Lai, be serious! That’s not what I’m talking about!" Ruan Tang was exasperated. "Senior Sister just pressed a drop of purple blood onto my stomach and said it was something her father left for her."
Since this involved their Master, Xu Lai’s expression finally turned grave. He focused his senses but couldn’t detect anything unusual.
"Don’t worry." Yu Guiwan leaned against the doorframe and spoke softly. "The old man left it for me before he passed away. He said it could save my life one day."
Xu Lai wasn’t worried that his Master or Senior Sister would harm Ruan Tang. He was just baffled. What was the origin of that blood? How could it merge with his wife’s body so completely that even he couldn’t sense it?
"Qingfeng, don’t look at me like that. I don’t know either." Yu Guiwan spread her hands. "But on his deathbed, he vaguely mentioned that it was Immortal Blood."
"Immortal Blood?" Xu Lai’s brows furrowed deeply.
On the path of Cultivation, anything associated with the word ’Immortal’ was no mundane matter, especially since Master Yu Shouzong was particularly averse to the word ’Immortal.’ Xu Lai still remembered the self-mocking look on his Master’s face when, as a boy, he had asked if immortals existed in the world.
"What is an Immortal?"
"If you break down the character, it’s one person and one mountain. Just one person, and one mountain."
His Master’s words suddenly resurfaced in his mind. But his Master hadn’t said anything more, merely gazing silently at the sky. As Xu Lai was lost in thought, his Senior Sister’s voice pulled him back. "That’s right. Immortal Blood."
After a moment of silence, Xu Lai spoke. "Senior Sister, something left by Master must be incredibly important. Why would you give it to Ruan Tang?"
"What’s this?" Yu Guiwan pinched Xu Lai’s cheek. "You’ve become an Emperor, and now you think you can start ordering your big Senior Sister around?"
Xu Lai said nothing. His expression was placid as he looked at her. He was certain this drop of blood was immensely important, both to his Master and to her.
"Alright, alright. I’ve already given it to her. What are you going to do, ask Ruan Tang to cough it back up for me?" Knowing her little junior brother was genuinely upset, Yu Guiwan blinked her eyes playfully. "Now hurry downstairs and make breakfast. I smell something burning."
"Xu Lai..." Ruan Tang felt a pang of guilt. "I should have stopped her. I didn’t realize it was so valuable."
"My silly little sister-in-law," Yu Guiwan said with a smile. "The old man’s Boundary was leagues below Qingfeng’s; what kind of incredible treasure could he possibly have? Don’t overthink it."
As things stood, Xu Lai couldn’t really do anything to his Senior Sister. He took Ruan Tang’s hand and said softly, "Honey, go downstairs and watch Yiyi."
Knowing the two of them needed to talk, Ruan Tang nodded and went downstairs. Yu Guiwan also tried to slip away but was stopped by Xu Lai.
"Senior Sister, I’ve thought it over. The heart of the Great Emperor Youming must be refined into an Elixir for you. Prepare yourself."
"Xu Qingfeng, can’t you be a decent human being?!" Yu Guiwan paled. "I’m your own Senior Sister! You want me to eat *that*?"
"Yep. Or you can try and beat me up." Xu Lai tilted his head. "But unless you can actually kill me, Senior Sister, you’re going to eat it. It’ll extend your life by ten thousand years, after all."
...
Yu Guiwan was furious. But she knew Xu Lai could be persuaded but not forced, so she immediately put on a pitiful expression. "Little Junior Brother, Qingfeng, please don’t do this to your Senior Sister, okay?"
"Just accept your fate, Senior Sister." Xu Lai’s tone didn’t soften in the slightest.
A faint, sharp intake of breath was heard, but it wasn’t from his Senior Sister. It came from behind the door two rooms down.
It was Ruan Lan.
The little sister-in-law had just woken up. Before she could even open the door, she heard a commotion outside. Listening closely, Ruan Lan drew a sharp breath.
What is that scoundrel brother-in-law trying to do?
She was about to start recording with her phone when the door was pushed open.
Yu Guiwan threw her arms around Ruan Lan, crying for help. "Lan, save me!"
The last time they were in the Immortal Domain, during Xu Lai and Ruan Tang’s wedding on the back mountain of the Heavenly Court, Yu Guiwan and Ruan Lan had hit it off. The two were practically sworn sisters. Naturally, Ruan Lan wouldn’t refuse.
She bit her little canine teeth, filled with righteous indignation. "Don’t worry, Senior Sister! I’ll be sure to expose Xu the Jerk’s true colors to my sister!"
Xu the Jerk? Xu Lai’s face darkened. "You don’t know anything. Go play somewhere else."
"Ruan Lan, your brother-in-law wants to feed me an Elixir made from the heart of the Great Emperor Youming! He’s a Great Emperor from the Netherworld! How can anyone eat that?" Yu Guiwan poured out her grievances. "The Netherworld is where the souls of the dead are guided! How disgusting would an Elixir made from that be?"
Ruan Lan looked at Yu Guiwan, completely puzzled. "An Elixir... and that’s it?"
"Yes, yes!" Yu Guiwan choked up. "Isn’t he just awful?"
...
Knowing she’d made a fool of herself, the ever-shameless Ruan Lan felt no embarrassment at all. Instead, she announced earnestly, "Brother-in-law, I’ve always known you’re the most upright gentleman in the Immortal Domain. You would never do anything to violate your moral principles."
Xu Lai glanced at the phone in his sister-in-law’s hand, his smile not quite reaching his eyes. "What, planning to record this and tattle to your sister? She’s just downstairs."
"You rotten brother-in-law!" Ruan Lan snapped. "What nonsense are you talking about? Am I, Ruan Lan, that kind of despicable, shameless person?"
She stepped in front of Xu Lai, flashed a peace sign, and with a CLICK, snapped a photo.
"I just wanted to take a picture with my handsome, dashing brother-in-law, that’s all," she hummed.
With that, she ran downstairs barefoot, moving so fast she left afterimages in her wake.
Huh? Why did my little sister suddenly betray me? Yu Guiwan was completely bewildered.
