Invincible Dad-Chapter 626: 300 Years Ago (Part 1)_1
Eighteen cultivators at the Peak of Golden Core. This was a force comprised of the powerhouses from the very apex of the Moon Clan’s pyramid, an alliance strong enough to chill any faction to the bone.
Even the Three Sects and Nine Pavilions would not dare to underestimate them in the slightest.
As a certain great man once said, it is good to despise your enemy strategically but respect them tactically. Although Qi Wanhai was having a grand time cursing them out, he remained ever vigilant toward the Moon Clan, not daring to be careless for a moment. His goal was to infuriate them. Only when their opponents lost their reason could they, with their inferior numbers, stand against a greater foe and buy enough time for the old master of Tian Ce Pavilion to use his forbidden art.
Unfortunately, his provocation went a bit too far.
The eighteen Moon Clan Golden Core cultivators’ expressions were glacial as a blood moon rose behind each of them. The lunar phases varied—there were Upper Crescent moons, gibbous moons, full moons, and waning moons, among others. Their only commonality was that every single one was blood-red, as if dyed in fresh blood.
As the eighteen blood moons appeared, yin energy surged for dozens of miles in every direction. Countless tormented souls drifted through the air as a blood-red liquid bubbled up from the Moon’s surface, filled with innumerable skeletal remains.
"The Blood Moon Technique!" the old Sect Master of the Dao Sect could not help but exclaim.
Nearly everyone in the Moon Clan practiced the Blood Moon Technique. This Divine Skill required no special talent, only the consumption of enough fresh blood to reach a terrifying level of power. To step within the range of the Blood Moon Technique was to fight within the caster’s Domain, where their combat power would increase by a full thirty percent out of thin air.
The old Dao Sect Master’s face grew solemn. They were already at a disadvantage in numbers. Now, the Moon Clan was attacking without holding back, immediately unleashing the Blood Moon Technique. They were clearly aiming for a swift and decisive battle.
WHOOOOOSH—
The sinister wind howled. The bloody water gurgled and bubbled as white bones rose and fell within it, gradually coalescing into charging skeletons.
SIZZLE! SIZZLE! SIZZLE!
When these skeletons touched the Defensive Array, they immediately triggered Heavenly Thunder. Heavenly Thunder was the ultimate counter to such malevolent entities, and for a moment, the array actually managed to hold off the skeletal tide.
"An Array Master."
Ji Gui narrowed his eyes, his gaze falling upon the shortest of the group, the old Sect Master of the Formation Sect. He frowned deeply. So it wasn’t that female Array Master who set up this formation, but this little dwarf.
Ji Gui felt a twinge of regret. During the earlier siege, he had been quite interested in that nameless female Array Master. Although her figure couldn’t compare to his maids, she was exceptionally beautiful. He especially liked that stubborn streak of hers. Taking her as a maid to be slowly trained would be quite amusing.
"Little dwarf? To disrespect your grandpa like that? Grandpa is going to skin you today!"
The Formation Sect’s Master was named Shen Zhongjun. He might be short, but his temper certainly wasn’t, and he immediately started cursing.
"You’re seeking death," Ji Gui’s expression turned frigid. "Supreme Elders, deal with this group of humans who don’t know their place."
"Yes!"
The eighteen Supreme Elders of the Moon Clan held nothing back. Boosted by the Blood Moon Technique, their combat power soared. Already possessing superior numbers, their momentum was now overwhelming.
In less than three minutes, the Defensive Arrays and talisman barriers erected by Shen Zhongjun of the Formation Sect and the old Sect Master of the Dao Sect shattered one after another.
"Bring it on!"
With the exception of the old Pavilion Master of Tian Ce Pavilion, who was still performing the forbidden art to trace the past, the old masters of the other Ten Holy Lands let out a thunderous roar. Having cultivated to the Peak of Golden Core on Earth—a star shackled with cultivation restrictions—they had faced death countless times and met the Moon Clan powerhouses without a trace of fear.
In an instant, nearly thirty Peak of Golden Core cultivators clashed. The terrifying pressure of their Spiritual Energy shrouded the entire Moon in a gloomy haze.
"What is that!?"
In Chang’an City, the expressions of all the Martial Ancestors changed as they felt the terrifying fluctuations of Spiritual Energy. The six Watchmen shot to their feet, their gazes fixed on the vicinity of the mass grave from which the pressure emanated.
"Thousands of miles away, there are three... no, at least ten cultivators at the Peak of Golden Core fighting, maybe more! What is happening?" one of the Watchmen said, aghast.
"Is it internal strife within the Moon Clan?" Watchman Morning’s eyes glinted. "Should we go take a look?"
"Absolutely not," another Watchman said, shaking his head. "This could be a Moon Clan plot. Our mission is to defend Chang’an."
"Could it be cultivators from our Human Race?" a Watchman mused. "The One School, Three Sects, and Nine Pavilions all possess Starry Sky Gates. It wouldn’t be strange for them to reach the Moon."
This question plunged the other five Watchmen into silence. The increasingly violent spiritual energy fluctuations in the distance sent a shiver of fear through them; this was not a battle they could interfere in.
"Defend Chang’an," four of the Watchmen said in unison.
The remaining two, though tempted to investigate, ultimately decided against it. It had been less than a day since Chang’an City was breached, and there was no guarantee the Moon Clan wouldn’t launch a sneak attack. They couldn’t leave, not even for a moment. Behind them was Chang’an City, and the lives of billions depended on them.
If only it was internal strife within the Moon Clan, the Watchmen thought with a sigh. But if it is our Human Race cultivators out there... then we can only wish you good luck.
「...」
Ji Gui did not join the battle. The old Pavilion Master of Tian Ce Pavilion also remained on the sidelines, protected by three of the most powerful defensive formations. Not even a Peak of Golden Core cultivator could break through them without at least three to five minutes of sustained attacks.
Ji Gui, the Crown Prince of the Moon Clan, frowned deeply as he watched the ten human experts burning their lifespans to fight at their absolute peak. Though the eighteen Moon Clan elders held the numerical advantage, they were temporarily unable to overwhelm the human cultivators. In fact, they were worried about their opponents’ potential self-destruction, which forced them to fight with their hands tied.
These human cultivators are risking their lives to buy that old man time, Ji Gui thought. The most important Spiritual Field here has already been stolen. Are they looking for something else? Could it be... a rare heavenly treasure?!
His eyes instantly lit up. That’s it. Only a treasure of that caliber would be worth these human experts venturing deep into Moon Clan territory and sacrificing their lives to find. What kind of spiritual treasure could possibly be more important than the lives of eleven Peak of Golden Core cultivators?
The mere thought made Ji Gui’s breathing quicken.
He sent a Divine Sense transmission: "Elders, pull back for now! There might be a treasure here!"
"Hmm?"
The pupils of the eighteen Supreme Elders of the Crescent Moon Clan constricted in unison. Realization dawned on them; no wonder these humans were fighting with such disregard for their lives. They simultaneously retreated a hundred steps, forming a loose encirclement. In two or three more hours, these human cultivators would perish when their lifespans were exhausted.
To surround without killing was the best strategy.
"Why have they stopped attacking?" Shen Zhongjun asked, his hair now completely black. His vitality and spirit had soared to their peak, making him even stronger than he was in his youth. But this state was bought by burning his own life, and it could not last.
They probably think we’ve found some peerless treasure, the old Pavilion Master of Tian Ce Pavilion transmitted via Divine Sense. They plan to wait for us to find it before they make a move.
Truly, with age came cunning. The old Pavilion Master saw through Ji Gui’s intentions at a glance. Unfortunately for him, he’s destined to be disappointed.
The masters from the other Holy Lands maintained their solemn vigil, guarding the old Pavilion Master.
Time ticked by, second by second.
Five minutes.
Ten minutes.
Twenty minutes.
Half an hour passed.
After a total of one hour and seven minutes, the forbidden art was finally successfully cast. The emaciated old Pavilion Master shouted, "It’s done!"
WHOOSH!
A shimmering curtain of light, rippling like the surface of a lake, suddenly appeared around the mass grave, and an image began to form upon it.
