Chapter 78 -78: All Destroyed by His Own Hands
Facing her tears, Cheng Yi seemed unaffected on the surface, but his heart felt as if it were being sliced by knives. He really, really wanted to embrace her and tell her that he actually liked her, but reason ultimately triumphed over emotion.
Listening to her soft sobs, Cheng Yi sternly reminded himself that he absolutely must not soften, absolutely not.
So after about three minutes, he continued, “Although you are shy in bed and often leave me less than satisfied, I still rather like it. If you’re willing to stay by my side as a competent wife and trophy, I can pretend none of this ever happened. You can still be Mrs. Cheng, and I will continue to help the Xi Family. I might even satisfy more of your other demands.”
“Are you saying that I can have everything but your heart?” Xinan scoffed coldly.
“You can understand it that way, after all, I no longer love you.”
Xinan looked into Cheng Yi’s eyes, never before had she felt him so distant, “If you no longer love me, why are you still so good to me? Why did you give me the Black Card?”
“Is that considered being good to you?” Cheng Yi countered, “Xinan, you should know that we grew up together. There were many times when I didn’t know if I actually liked you or just saw you as a sister.”
“Besides… shouldn’t a brother be good to his sister? I’m really sorry for letting you misunderstand that I liked you~”
Upon hearing this, Xinan broke down completely, her voice choking and sobbing as she shouted, “Cheng Yi, you bastard!”
“Right, I am a bastard. If it makes you feel better, then curse me,” Cheng Yi replied.
Xinan cursed again, “You big bastard!”
“Mhm.”
With each curse from Xinan, Cheng Yi responded.
Finally, Xinan could no longer curse and her tears could no longer flow. She looked at Cheng Yi, her eyes shimmering with the last glimmer of hope, “Do you really, not like me at all anymore?”
Cheng Yi was silent for a few seconds, then nodded, “Mhm, I don’t.”
The last flicker of hope in Xinan’s heart finally shattered at that moment.
She chuckled lightly and then displayed the men’s ring she had been holding for a long time in front of Cheng Yi, her voice laced with self-mockery, “I even bought a ring for you for today, took me a long time to pick it out.”

Her voice began to waver as she spoke, “But I guess it’s not needed anymore because the person who should have it now no longer deserves it.”
No sooner had she finished speaking, Xinan tossed the ring away and it was lost to sight before Cheng Yi could even get a clear look at it.
Having done all this, Xinan turned around and walked out of the restaurant door without a hint of hesitation.
Seeing this, Jiang Yurou and Tan Bo couldn’t sit still any longer and hurriedly ran out.
Jiang Yurou gave Cheng Yi a disappointed look, “Brother Yi, you’ve really disappointed me. How could you say those things to Nannan!”
After saying this, she chased after Xinan.
Looking at the stationary Cheng Yi, Tan Bo slowly approached him, his tone filled with helplessness, “Sometimes, I really don’t know what you’re thinking.”
Cheng Yi didn’t look at him, his gaze downcast, “Are you very disappointed in me too?”
“Yes, very disappointed.” Xinan was, after all, like a half-sister to him. At that moment, Tan Bo felt genuinely sorry for her.
“I am equally disappointed in myself.”
But given another chance, he would do the same thing again.
Tan Bo shook his head, “You should think about it yourself. I’m going to check on Xinan.”
“Mhm.”
Not long after Tan Bo left, it started to sprinkle.
Because it was an open-air restaurant, the rain directly fell onto Cheng Yi’s hair, then trailed down his face.
Cheng Yi made no move to seek shelter from the rain but instead bent down to search for the ring that Xinan had thrown away.
He crouched on the ground, pulled out all kinds of debris from under the tables, but still found nothing.
“Sir, hello!”
A sudden voice interrupted Cheng Yi’s actions, followed by an umbrella being opened above him.
But Cheng Yi only paused for a moment, then continued his search.
“Sir, your clothes are all wet. You should come in and take shelter from the rain!” the server said considerately.
Cheng Yi replied coldly, “You don’t need to mind me.”
“Sir! You’ll catch a cold if this continues!”
Cheng Yi finally stopped, turned his head, and spoke word by word to the woman standing before him in a white skirt and high heels, “I said, you don’t need to mind me!”
With that, he dashed back into the rain to continue his search.
The rain grew heavier, quickly drenching Cheng Yi’s clothes, but he seemed unaffected by the cold, letting the rain wash over him.
After some time, Cheng Yi finally found the discarded ring in a crevice of a patch of grass.
He picked it up as carefully as a child and knelt on the grass, running his hand over the silver ring with its simple and rustic pattern.
Looking at the ring, Cheng Yi’s eyes slowly reddened, tears mixing with the rainfall, streaming down his face onto the ring, looking like little translucent pearls.
“I’m sorry…” Cheng Yi murmured softly, “Nannan, I’m really sorry, it’s all my fault, all my fault…”
It wasn’t until the rain stopped that Cheng Yi carefully put the ring away and slowly stood up.
He looked at the rose flowers, now in shambles from the rain, feeling indescribable inside.
Cheng Yi touched the blossoms, his fingers shaking involuntarily; these were prepared by Xinan for him!
But he had destroyed them.
Destroyed them all by his own hands…
Cheng Yi walked out of the restaurant in a daze, crossed the streets, and then got into his car.
He didn’t rush to drive; he didn’t even know where to go. He definitely couldn’t return to Luming Academy; he needed to leave Xinan a place to soothe her emotions.
Although he was well aware that after this incident, the chances of Xinan going back were almost nil.
Jiang Yurou should be by her side now… Would she still be crying? Would she fall asleep and still curse him in her dreams?
Tomorrow was New Year’s, and he hadn’t even wished her a happy new year in person yet…
Cheng Yi pulled a dry cigarette case from his damp pocket; luckily it wasn’t wet. He took out a cigarette, lit it, then took a deep drag, blowing out a large smoke ring. The smoke clouded before him, blurring everything.
“Is this what my relationship with Xinan has come to?” Cheng Yi whispered to himself, his voice hoarse.
