Chapter 123 - Solitude once more!

Philip trotted up the path carrying me all the way up. Sadly I couldn't bring her into the city and we were stopped by a guard. "Vek? Wow, you are finally back in Solitude?"

I looked at the guard with some scrutiny. "Noster? What are you doing on guard duty?"

Noster smiled, "Every spare imperial soldier is being gathered up. This has left guard duty up to me and those with some injuries."

I frowned, "Ulfric is sieging Whiterun?"

Noster jumped in surprise, paused and nodded. "I forgot you are the actual master of the information guild. I don't want to say too much, but you pretty much know. The siege will occur any day now, which has left Solitude a little empty. Speaking of, General Tullius wanted to find you."

I nodded, "I'll head over to the barracks when I have the time. I have to dump some stuff I stored away."

Noster threw out a thumbs up, but paused when he watched Viree began to drag me into the city. "What are you doing?"

Viree sighed, "The magic storage he uses is full making him unable to move."

Noster nodded in some understanding, but clearly didn't want any elaboration. Which left Viree dragging me into the city. A group of khajiit waved at us, "Vek, you are back?"

I nodded, "Tired after a long journey, I am sure I will have to venture out again."

Viree sighed in some resignation and dragged me away from them. Before we got past the winking skeever though we were stopped by Minette. "Are you to playing wheelbarrow?"

I waved at Minette, "Hey, Minette. How's your brother."

She shrugged, "He's fine."

Viree continued to drag me along, "See you later Minette."

Viree spoke, "Good kid."

I nodded, "Hopefully we can get to the manor without being stopped again."

Sure enough I had jinxed it and we were stopped by a slightly unexpected face. Viree held up a hand, "Lurbuk, not right now."

Viree dragged me along, but Lurbuk followed next to us. "What are you two doing?"

I shrugged, "Being dragged along mostly."

Lurbuk nodded, "I can see that..."

Viree sighed, "Lurbuk, what do you want?"

He coughed, "I heard you were doing something in riften? Some tribes have been moving and sending messages out. I was just wondering..."

I rolled my eyes, so he still wanted to honor is roots. "I'll tell you about it later, you have to pay for it though."

He nodded, "I'll gather up my allowance and find you later!"

With Lurbuk running off from us Viree frowned, "I forgot everyone likes us here."

I shrugged, "Not everyone, the east empire company doesn't like me. From my understanding I will either be robbed or assassinated within the week. According to letters Sorex has sent in the past we have run into a few issues with them at the docks. Although..."

Viree dragged me up the stairs to Proudspire where I had unlocked the door. "Although? You just gonna stop mid-sentence?"

"I couldn't say it outside. Even if no one was nearby it is rather risky information. Returning to what I was going to say though. The east empire company will likely run into some serious problems soon. As one of their members is going to be assassinated. At her own wedding too, so we will likely be recruited to investigate or catch the assassin. Which will be another player most likely."

Viree frowned, "At her own wedding? Why?"

I shook my head as Viree finally brought me to the basement of Proudspire where I started dumping out everything. "Politics mostly, she is related to someone else who will be assassinated so she is just a set up for the bigger picture. When she does die though we will capitalize and attack the east empire company on the bigger market."

I pointed to a workbench, "Can you push that against the wall?"

Viree nodded, "I assume there is more to it?"

I laughed, "Yeah, one of Maven Black-briar's employees is the soon to be husband of the person who gets assassinated. Having dealings with the black-briars and knowing the benefits that the marriage gives Maven Black-Briar. Our company swoops in and offers a nice discounted price."

Viree looked back at me, "What if the player doesn't kill this woman?"

I paused at that, realistically they would. Though it was fair to say they might not. Vittoria Vici honestly didn't need to die. The player might try to sequence break. "Hmmm, I'll just hire them to kill her. She isn't really a bad person, but the east empire company is not a kind company. So I am sure it won't really matter in the end."

Viree's face changed to one of passive comprehension. "So what now?"

I sighed, "Paperwork, reports and discussions. If you wanna catch a drink I'll give you some cash."

Viree shrugged, "I'll wait on it. I'll just stay here for now. We just got back, I want to relax."

I gave a thumbs up and left Proudspire Manor. "I should check in with the general first I suppose."

I turned to head toward the barracks. Entering the Castle Dour, General Tullius called out. "Vek? Come over here!"

I walked over to the conference room and he looked up from several reports. "I figured it was you. Three soldiers told me you had arrived by the time you reached your Manor."

I nodded, "What did you need?"

He looked up, "Did you receive Canary's letter? The most recent."

I took out the most recent and he shook his head, "Read this."

I took the letter from his hand, looking over the encrypted letter. "Huh, that doesn't sound good. I'm being tracked by the Thalmor? How did she find out?"

Tullius sighed, "No clue, but she suspects they started following you when they were looking for a man named Esbern. Do you know anything about him?"

I nodded, "Just so you know that is information you have to pay for."

He let out a small chuckle, "I don't need it. However it seems they might have figured out you knew or perhaps were able to find him. None of that matters though, the important part is that they are now trailing you. We don't believe they will acted against you, but I want you to be wary of any individuals that approach you."

Go figure, the moment I get back to Solitude I now had to watch for Thalmor spies. "Anything else General?"

He nodded, "There is something else, Vittoria Vici is having her wedding. I have been asked if I could acquire additional guards for the event." He rubbed his eyebrows, "The east empire company delivers several important supplies for the imperial army as i am sure you know. Along with her being the cousin of the emperor I can't dismiss her request easily."

I tilted my head, "May I ask why she is requesting it?"

He laughed, "Political discourse, something I can't really tell you."

I thought about it on my own, perhaps it was referring to Amaund Motierre. "Fair enough, anything else?"

The General paused, looked at me. "Is that the Crown of Freydis? Why do you have that?"

I shrugged, "Scammed it off some pretentious brats."

His eyes darted to the jagged crown on the desk. He flicked his eyes back to me and shook his head, "It is one of the high crowns of skyrim."

I looked at the Jagged crown and saw the thing was enchanted with something. I shrugged though, "Hey, it is a great accessory for helm."

He closed his eyes, "Alright! You are dismissed."

I bowed and gave him the courtesy of closing the door behind me. I should go check in at the winking skeever now. I cracked my neck and started walking toward the city entrance.
