INTERSTELLAR ERA: MY MIND IS A LIBRARY-Chapter 33: UNEXPECTED DAY
Max’s office was quiet, extremely quiet to the point where a single pin would echo through the room.
He sat in his seat, hands locked into each other as he stared forward, at Silas who just stood calmly in front of him.
Neither of them said anything, only staring at each other before Max broke the silence with a smile.
"You’ve become master Sebastian’s disciple," he said calmly.
Silas nodded gently.
"We should have celebrated it alongside my breakthrough tomorrow, alas, we have things to sort now."
As he said those words, his face turned grim. Pure, undiluted anger radiated from him.
Silas was terrified by this side of Max he saw. The normal Max he knew was always playing around or teasing.
"April, call Alfred," Max said mentally.
After a few seconds, it connected.
"Why are you calling?" Alfred asked with an exasperated tone like he had just finished climbing a mountain.
"Come back now," Max said, his tone slow but the authority behind it was undeniable.
"After all my work, I can’t get a day off," Alfred yelled from the other side but Max had long hung up.
Alfred yelled furiously from the bed, removing his head from the embrace of the two women wrapped around him.
"Are you going?" One of the ladies asked with a flirtatious tone.
Alfred nodded calmly. "Don’t worry, take this." As he said this, he connected his AI to the ladies’ and sent five thousand credits each. "Consider it my thank you."
Without even waiting for them to speak, he dressed up quickly and left the place.
"He had better have a good reason to call me," Alfred said as he shot into the sky.
"Governor Max, what do you think happened with the woman?" Silas, now sitting opposite Max, asked.
"I have a few thoughts but I can’t say for sure."
Max sighed as he remembered something that he had failed to fully stop in the past.
"Whatever, let’s wait for Alfred to come back. You can go now."
Silas bid farewell to Max before standing up.
As he reached the door, Max suddenly spoke.
"Now that I remember, you also need to get me that VIP card from the Sovereign Garden, we might need their resources in the upcoming days."
Silas nodded before he walked out. The elevator descended without disturbance. The only disturbance was Silas’s mind, which was in disarray.
The elevator’s door chimed, opening to reveal the living room, empty as usual.
But then, something caught his attention — Amelia, walking towards him with a heavy expression.
She stopped a few steps away from him, sizing him up for a moment before she jumped into his arms.
Silas was taken aback by the sudden shift. Amelia, hugging him on her own accord — it was something he had never imagined in his life.
"How long do you plan to bottle your emotions?" Amelia’s soft voice said, her shaky breaths blowing against Silas’s chest.
Silas looked down at Amelia, who was barely reaching his chest with her height.
A soft smile that seemed to transcend the current troubles appeared on his face.
He hesitated for only a second before his arms wrapped around her.
Neither of them spoke. There was silence.
But not the cold, suffocating one from Max’s office — this was much warmer, the kind of silence that came when two people could no longer continue to hide their feelings.
"You are trembling," Amelia said.
"You are also stuttering," Silas replied in defence.
Again, they did not speak.
"Would you be my girlfriend?" Silas finally asked, his voice carrying the peace of someone who had finally let go of a heavy burden.
Amelia nodded almost immediately.
Silas smiled. He was about to bend down when a violent gust of wind spread through the place.
The door slammed open with enough force to break it into pieces.
"MAX! I SWEAR IF IT ISN’T A PLANET-THREATENING SITUATION, I WILL RESIGN," Alfred said as he stormed into the place, each step seemingly having a grudge with the tiles beneath them.
He ignored Silas and Amelia completely as though they were invisible.
As he entered the elevator and went up, Silas chuckled, then turned back to Amelia who seemed to be waiting for the kiss.
Not wanting to keep her waiting, he was about to go for it when another maid entered, holding a tray.
"I am sorry," she quickly apologized before walking into the elevator with hurried steps.
"Should we take this to my room?" Silas asked, carrying Amelia in his arms like a princess.
Amelia’s face turned so red that she became even cuter.
"Are you still asking?" She replied.
"You were waiting?" Silas asked with a smile.
Amelia opened her mouth, then closed it again.
Her grip on Silas’s collar tightened, then she buried her head into his chest.
"This is cute," Silas muttered before carrying her upstairs.
In Max’s office, both Max and Alfred were talking.
Alfred’s anger had long disappeared as they discussed the issue.
"I never expected the Crimson Fang to still be continuing their human trafficking," Alfred said with a sigh.
The Crimson Fang — a huge criminal organization that had dared to go against Max over a thousand years ago.
They were annihilated quickly after Alfred led a counterattack, but to think that they were still operating.
"We can’t make guesses, they might not be the ones. That’s just speculation," Max said, tapping his finger on the table slowly.
"They are the biggest suspect. Almost everyone on this planet does not have such grand ambitions as becoming the planet master," Alfred replied.
His rage was still burning but it was directed at something else now.
Max nodded. "That’s why we have to wait for the lady to wake up. Once she heals, we can extract information from her and act accordingly," Max said.
Just then, a maid walked in, carrying a tray of cookies and milk.
"Good evening, Governor Max, Deputy Governor Alfred," she bowed before setting the tray on the table for them.
When she walked out of the room, Max took a cookie, dipped it in a cup of milk and bit into it.
He gazed out of the window, his expression calm. "The next few weeks are bound to be filled with trouble."
