Chapter 59: HE IS NO PRINCE, HE’S A BEAST WITH AN EVIL HEART

She met his eyes. "I know. But these people have been suffering from injustice for a long time. They are also hurt. Lilia has been underpaid for five years. Elara watched the quality of her work degrade because the good supplies stopped coming. They are hurt too."

He shook his head slowly. "No. If you had let me know, I would have taken care of everything. I do not like you jumping into danger alone. Rushing in, leaving Auriel behind. How sure were you that Selas was the only rat?"

Lin Yue paused, then her eyes lost their light when she came to a realization.

"No."

Uriel sighed and nodded, he couldn’t quite tell why she was doing this.

She could have stayed put.

"I have been noticing cracks," he said, his voice quieter now, "but I was too busy to identify them. Mira is the mastermind behind this. Selas, Lilia, Elara—they are all her accomplices. From your findings, you can see that the rat is not just one person, yes? You knew it was a network."

She nodded slowly, the realization settling in her chest like a stone.

"You should have told me when you found out," he said. "Coming here on your own was a mistake."

She took a step back, she felt like giving herself a slap across the face.

How stupid was she to leave her son in the hands of the mastermind.

"Is Auriel, is he.."

Uriel nodded "Don’t worry, he’s with Magus and the boys. They’ll be back in a while."

The guilt sat heavy in her stomach, but she forced herself to look at him, to meet his eyes, to accept what he was saying.

"You are right." she said. "I should have told you."

MS had warned her, but she wanted to see for herself and indirectly—No, directly placed her son in danger.

She felt so angry at herself, she couldn’t even place it into words.

"Lin Yue. What you did today shouldn’t repeat itself. I get it, you were trying to help. But, there should be a limit to how much you involve yourself. Do you understand?"

Lin Yue lowered her head and nodded, she didn’t want to get informed, it was MS mission that placed her here.

"Alright, let’s leave here. I’m also at fault, I should have taken care of this from the beginning. I let it escalate to this point."

Uriel guided her out of the room and closed the door behind him.

"I’ll compensate them. Everyone affected by this scheme will be compensated."

Lin Yue nodded and stopped walking after they had gotten a few steps past the storeroom.

"I want to see them, the culprits. Take me to the detention center. It may look like Mira is the mastermind, but she’s not. Out of all the people in this estate, she’s the most loyal. I didn’t leave Auriel in her hands blindly, take me there and I’ll show you why."

Uriel sighed and shook his head, there was no getting through to her.

"Follow me."

He turned and started heading to what looked like a dungeon room.

As a military officer, Uriel was strict about rule breaking so he had his own detention center below the estate.

What looked like a dungeon room was actually a hidden elevator.

Lin Yue looked at the buttons, there were only two floors.

She watched as Uriel pressed the button for the second floor.

"What’s on the first floor?" She wanted to ask but after all that happened, it was best to keep her mouth shut.

"They’ve been placed in separate detention cells, they will be brought to the interrogation room if you wish to speak to them."

When the elevator opened, the guards immediately bowed.

"Take her to the interrogation."

They bowed and carefully pointed to the right, asking Lin Yue to follow them.

Uriel walked forward, towards the command room.

"Bring Selas out and call Magus, tell him to bring my son."

"Yes sir."

Uriel nodded "Actually turn on the intercom in his cell, I have some instructions for him."

The man nodded and flicked on a red button, the screen switching to Selas’s cell.

"Selas Aegaeon, immediately your cell door opens, you are to calmly head to the interrogation room and sit down. If you dare think you can escape or have some stupid escape plan. I suggest you forget about it, I’m already merciful for not killing you on the spot. So let’s be cordial."

Selas only smiled at the camera and said nothing in return.

When the cell door opened, Uriel turned and headed towards the interrogation room to meet Lin Yue.

Lin Yue had her chin on her hand, she didn’t care what happened to Selas, but she couldn’t let an innocent woman like Mira be imprisoned.

She broke out of her reverie when she heard footsteps.

Her face immediately darkened when she saw Selas.

"It hurts my heart to see you displeased with my presence, Madam." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Lin Yue scoffed and then leaned back on the chair.

"Tell me, was the pay worth going against Uriel? He is your prince."

Selas smiled and crossed his legs, despite being restrained, he did not look one bit like a prisoner.

"He is no prince, he’s a beast with an evil heart. Have you actually seen this man in action?"

Lin Yue paused, even if what he said asked Uriel was true, she didn’t care.

"Fine, if he’s such a beast as you say. Why dare go against him? Knowing what he could do to you."

Selas stood up and walked closer to Lin Yue, sitting on the edge of the table instead.

"You know that saying. "The forbidden fruit is always the sweetest" that’s what money feels like for me. The person with the fattest pocket is my prince. You’re quite smart, surprising for someone from a backwards planet. Even your loving husband didn’t know this much."

Lin Yue’s eyes narrowed, what was he trying to say?

"Fine, then who are you working for? If the fattest pocket is your prince, if I pay you higher than your employer, would that make me your princess? What’s your price? What did he or she offer you that made you go against your prince?"
