Interstellar Beastworld: Raising A Cub With My Mummy System!-Chapter 49: CHOOSING A FORM
She looked back at the screen and began to trace the characters again.
Kyr, she practiced.
Solus.
Noctis.
Vargr.
The words felt strange in her mind, but they were starting to stick.
Auriel stirred in her arms, made a small sound, and settled again.
"You are doing well," MS said. " We should also cover the planetary governance structure. The King, the council, the military hierarchy. And the estate management systems you have been reviewing. You will need to understand them if you are going to find the rat."
She nodded, her eyes still on the screen. "One thing at a time."
"One thing at a time."
She kept practicing, tracing the symbols, whispering the sounds. The morning light shifted across the floor, and the house stirred around her, but she stayed in the nursery, learning the language of her new home.
For herself.
For her son.
For the life she was building here.
[You are doing well with the reading, but your pronunciation needs work. The sounds do not come naturally to you because your mouth is not accustomed to them.]
Lin Yue looked up from the screen. "How do I fix that?"
[I can help you with that. Consider it a system gift. I will install a language module that will give you the mother tongue. Not just the words, but the ability to shape the sounds correctly. You will speak Kyrnan like someone born here.] 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Her eyes widened. "You can do that?"
[I can do many things. This is one of them. It will take a few moments. Do you want it?]
"Yes. Absolutely."
[Good. Hold still.]
She felt a warmth spread through her head, a gentle pressure behind her eyes, and then it was gone.
[Try saying something. Say ’Kyr.’]
She opened her mouth. "Kyr."
The sound came out different than before. Smoother. The ky rolled naturally, the r vibrating at the back of her throat. It sounded like the word belonged to her.
"That was different," she said.
[It was correct. Now say ’Vargr.’]
"Vargr." The word came out with a growl she had not known she could make.
[Better. Much better. You will still need to practice, but you have the foundation now. Your mouth knows what to do. Your mind just needs to catch up.]
She smiled. "Thank you."
[Do not thank me yet. There is something else. A different kind of gift. One I can offer but not give. You must choose it for me.]
A screen appeared in her vision, a list of words in plain text.
[MS Therianthrophy Selection]
[Cat]
[Dog]
[Wolf]
[Snake]
[Eagle]
Lin Yue stared at the list. "What is this?"
[I have been a voice in your head since you arrived. A screen with text and emojis. But I can be more. I can take physical form. A body. A presence in this world. I need you to choose what that form will be.]
Her mouth fell open. "You can get an actual body? A real one?"
[I can do many things. This is one of them. The process will take several days or hours. My consciousness will transfer into the chosen form. I will be with you physically, able to move, to see, to exist beside you. I will still speak in your mind when necessary, but I will also be there. With you. In the world.]
She looked at the list again.
Cat.
Dog.
Wolf.
Snake.
Eagle.
"Why these?"
[They are the forms most compatible with my core programming. Also, I have been watching you. You like having something soft to hold. Something that can curl up beside you when you are alone.]
She looked down at Auriel, sleeping in her arms, then back at the screen. "Cat," she said. "I want you to be a cat."
[Why a cat?]
"Because cats are quiet, they watch, they notice what people try to hide. They land on their feet, they clean up after themselves." She paused. "And they curl up next to you when you need them."
[Cat is a good choice. I will begin the process. It will take several days or hours. When it is complete, I will find you. I will be a small grey cat with green eyes. I will still speak in your mind, but you will also see me. You will be able to touch me. I will be there.]
She smiled. " I like that."
[I think I will like it too. Now, back to your lessons. We have covered the months and the days of the week. What do you remember?]
She sat up straighter, adjusting Auriel in her arms. "Fourteen months. Six seasons. Prima and Secunda are Spring Equinox. Tertia, Quarta, Quinta are Warming Tide. Sexta, Septa, Octa are Solar Peak. Nova and Deca are Harvest Moon. Undeca and Duodeca are Autumn Frost. Tredeca and Quadeca are Winter Solstice."
[Good. And the days of the week?]
"Luna, Martis, Mercuris, Jovis, Veneris, Saturnis, Solis. Today is Jovis."
[Good, good, we’ll be moving to Planetary governance now]
Lin Yue nodded, and adjusted her back on the chair.
[Primus is a constitutional monarchy. The King holds final authority, but the council advises on matters of law and policy. The council is made up of representatives from the major noble houses and elected officials from the provinces. They meet twice a month in the capital.]
Lin Yue listened carefully, filing the information away.
[Below the council is the military command. Uriel is the head of military operations, but the Chief of Defence manages day-to-day deployments and strategy. In times of war or crisis, Uriel takes direct command. In peacetime, he oversees training and readiness while the Chief of Defence handles routine matters.]
"That is why he was not at the estate full time before," she said. "He was at the Castle or in the field."
[Correct. Below the military are the noble houses, each governing their own territories. They answer to the King and the council but have autonomy in local matters. Below them are the common citizens, who have representation through elected officials but limited direct power.]
