Chapter 34: LET’S GET MARRIED

The cooing sound had changed to hardcore crying by the time she entered the nursery.

Lin Yue stopped dead in the doorway, staring at the tiny creature in Mira’s arms. His face was bright red, his little mouth open wide, screams pouring out like a siren. His tiny fists waved furiously, legs kicking.

Was that baby actually hers?

Mira looked up with relief. "Madam! I think he is hungry. He was happy one moment and then..."

Lin Yue crossed the room quickly and took Auriel from her. She sat in the rocking chair and positioned him against her chest the way the head nurse had taught her. One hand supporting his head, the other guiding him.

He screamed louder.

"No, no, no," Lin Yue murmured. "Come on, little one. You know how to do this."

She adjusted his position.

Tried a different angle.

Rocked gently.

Nothing worked.

The crying only intensified, his tiny body thrashing against her.

This was the first time she had seen Auriel cry like this since he was born. Uriel had told her he was a fussy baby.

She had not believed him then.

He had seemed so peaceful, so content.

She believed him now.

[PERHAPS YOU SHOULD TAKE HIM TO URIEL.]

She blinked at the voice in her head. "What?"

[HE HAS EXPERIENCE WITH THE BABY’S FUSSINESS. REMEMBER THE HOSPITAL? HE FIGURED IT OUT.]

Mira was watching with concern. "Madam? Should I fetch something? Warm milk? A different blanket?"

Lin Yue stood, bouncing Auriel gently as she walked. "No. I need to find Uriel. Which way is his study?"

"This way, Madam. Follow me."

They hurried through the corridors, Auriel’s cries echoing off the walls. Lin Yue had never heard anything so loud from something so small. It was like a siren, insistent and impossible to ignore.

They rounded a corner and there he was.

Uriel was already heading out of his study, his expression sharp, his ears flat against his head. He had clearly heard the cries from inside.

"Is he all fussy?" he asked.

"Yeah." Lin Yue was slightly out of breath. "I tried feeding him. It made it worse."

He held out his arms and she transferred Auriel to him without hesitation.

The baby immediately nuzzled against his father’s chest, still crying but somehow quieter already. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

Uriel looked down at his son, his voice dropping to something soft. "What is upsetting you, my son?"

Auriel cried on.

Uriel began to walk, slow and steady, down the corridor. He glanced back at Lin Yue. "Come. We will take a little walk together. Us and mummy."

Lin Yue followed, confused but willing. "A walk?"

"Sometimes he just needs movement. I found out in the hospital that rocking works."

They walked through the estate, past windows overlooking the garden, down a hallway lined with art, toward a back door that led outside.

The sun was warm, the air fresh.

Auriel’s cries began to soften.

Uriel stopped at a clear path and Lin Yue slowly stopped beside him.

"In my family.." he began, holding Auriel close. "We plant a new tree when a child is born, the parents choose a tree that will grow alongside the child. My father planted a willow for me, it’s fairly large now. I’ll show it to you sometime."

This open space would be where they would plant Auriel’s tree.

"So as his mother, do you have any tree in mind?"

Lin Yue’s lips twitched, she was in an alien planet and he saw asking her to suggest tree.

"Well, if we were on earth I would have suggested an Oak tree. So Auriel may grow strong and stand tall. I don’t know the kind of trees this world has.."

Uriel nodded and then turned to Lin Yue "If you don’t mind me asking, it’s nearly impossible for a human to traveo to Primus using space travel, so how did you get here?"

Lin Yue froze, she was not expecting Uriel to ask her that question but then again it was completely reasonable.

She stroked her chin, thinking of the best truth.

"I was kidnapped, and when I woke up I found myself here?"

[PFF— WHO THE HELL IS GOING TO BELIEVE THAT?]

-_-

"Shut the fuck up MS, this is all your fault, why would you bring me here without a decent alibi?"

[-_-]

[FAIR.]

Uriel looked at her like he was holding a laugh and then eventually chuckled.

"You were kidnapped? I guess there are a lot of rogues going about stealing tech, though Earth is a backwards planet, it has a lot of beautiful women."

-_-

-_-

HE ACTUALLY BOUGHT THAT ?!!!

[PFFT- ITS JUST SO STUPID IT WORKS]

Lin Yue also bit back her laugh, then she turned to Auriel, the little guy had fallen asleep.

"It seems he likes you more than me, that’s not fair."

Uriel laughed again "I spent quite some time with him while you were in the tube. He likes getting rocked, walked, he likes being outside, hearing the birds and whatnot. So whenever he’s all fussy and I’m not close by, these little tricks will help."

Lin Yue nodded and placed her hands behind her back.

"Then, are we not going to get married anymore? You’re the one who proposed.."

Uriel’s ears twitched. He looked at her, then at Auriel, then back at her.

"I did propose."

"Yes. In the hospital. You asked if I would let you marry me." She tilted her head. "I am still waiting for an answer on whether that offer still stands."

He was quiet for a moment. The garden was peaceful around them, the only sound the soft rustle of leaves and the distant trickle of water.

"It still stands," he said finally. "If you want it."

"If I want it?" She laughed softly. "Uriel, I just asked you if we were still getting married. That is not the response of someone who does not want it."

He looked at her, those gold eyes unreadable but warm. "I did not want to assume. You have been through a lot. I did not want you to feel pressured."

Lin Yue stepped closer to him, close enough that she could feel the warmth radiating from his body. Auriel slept between them, tiny and perfect.

"I am not pressured," she said quietly. "I am asking. So let me ask properly." She looked up at him. "Uriel, do you still want to marry me?
