Instigator and Protector of Violence-Chapter 289: The Wind Blows West
"Have you figured out what they're up to inside?"
Just as the waves roared inside the cathedral.
The members of the Kingdom Defense Bureau, blocked outside the church district, were anxious.
They belonged to the Fifth Division of the Action Department of the Kingdom Defense Bureau, primarily responsible for monitoring religious activities within the kingdom's borders.
In the Royal Capital, their department essentially existed to monitor the Sea God Church.
Originally, for many past years, their department had the least to do because the Sea God Church was always very well-behaved, never doing anything excessive.
Unusual events were rare, seldom occurring even once in several years.
But who knew they were so unlucky; after years of peace, such a major incident suddenly occurred.
The tides were surging, and a typhoon might be approaching.
A strict order had already been issued to quickly figure things out, or they'd be dismissed.
Their department had been idle for many years, lacking manpower. They might have borrowed some personnel from other departments.
But recently, with the assassination of the Eldest Prince, other departments were cooperating with the Third Division to catch the culprit; there was no one available to lend them help.
"They have too many people. We don't have enough manpower, can't get in, and can't investigate the situation..."
The subordinate reported with some helplessness.
As the commander of the Fifth Division, Bauer also looked distressed.
He, a dignified commander, personally had to be on the scene, which was already embarrassing.
The key was, the matter wasn't going smoothly.
"Boss, I say, we need to ask for more people. The followers of the Sea God Church aren't too many, but not few either. We just don't have enough personnel, can't have the whole Action Department revolving around the Third Division, can we? Their matters are important, but does that make ours any less?" Listening to his subordinate's complaints, Bauer nodded.
The Third Division handled important tasks; does that mean the Fifth Division's weren't?
For years, they had been suppressed and looked down upon everywhere. Bauer had enough and was determined to make a stand this time, at least to grab some manpower.
Meanwhile.
Inside the Sea God Church.
Following instructions, Johnny Blackbird announced what was called the divine oracle.
"The sea wind blows to the west."
He said this one sentence.
He himself did not know the meaning of the deity's will.
Because it was Ethan who had told him.
The others who heard this didn't understand its meaning either.
Neither Edwin nor Heigen.
The congregation was even more baffled.
But it didn't matter; Ethan wanted them not to understand. Ambiguity was exactly what made it seem like a divine oracle.
With the oracle given, the crowd began to interpret it.
"The west, which west?"
"Is it the west of the Royal Capital? That would be the Bis Mountain Range; are we supposed to enter the mountains?"
"Or maybe it's the West District?"
"But what would we be doing going west?"
This question was asked by Maurice, who was a priest but had an ordinary status before and knew little.
So, the question he asked was apparently not needed in Edwin's and others' view. They remained silent, making Maurice feel he might have misspoken.
At this moment, Ethan seized the opportunity to say, "Actually, the oracle I received was 'Follow the direction of the sea wind.' Perhaps we need to wait until the wind reaches the Royal Capital to know?"
This was a good direction; with a storm approaching, maybe they really should see where the wind would blow.
"Perhaps waiting in the West District would be better?"
Johnny Blackbird chimed in.
This was naturally Ethan and Johnny playing off each other.
By this point, Ethan's intent was clear.
It was to gather everyone towards the West District.
Upon hearing Johnny Blackbird's agreement, Edwin and the others naturally had no objections.
After all, Johnny Blackbird was the closest to the deity now.
"Then let everyone head to the West District, but be careful not to cause too much of a stir."
Ultimately, it was Pope Edwin who made the decision.
The remaining tasks were naturally for others to carry out; the structure of the Sea God Church was already meticulously defined to an extreme level.
The crowd gradually dispersed.
Everyone was excited.
Because this trip wasn't in vain, they indeed witnessed a new divine revelation, faintly sensing the resurgence of the deity.
With this excitement, they stepped out of the church district, naturally noticed by the Kingdom Defense Bureau's Fifth Division personnel.
Initially clueless about the situation, they grew even more anxious and vigilant.
"Leave some people here, and the rest follow them to see what they're up to."
Bauer issued the order while also eager to return and rally more people.
Ethan and Johnny Blackbird were left in the cathedral's prayer room.
"You two, it's best to wait here until the wind rises."
Heigen spoke courteously, but there was a clear intent of surveillance and control.
For the Sea God Church, Johnny Blackbird's role was unique and crucial; he couldn't be allowed to leave.
As for Ethan, he was also involved and couldn't leave either.
Ethan didn't look at Johnny Blackbird; after all, everything was already planned, and staying at the Sea God Church didn't matter.
Although Johnny Blackbird was worried about West and the patients in the underground hospital, Ethan's plan was indeed being gradually executed. He pretty much guessed Ethan's subsequent moves, which could very likely rescue those patients.
So, he was not in a hurry.
Seeing them so cooperative, Heigen didn't make things difficult for them, instead arranging a suitable comfortable room and preparing abundant food, including wine, even assigning congregants to serve them.
The two of them, taking things as they were, indulged in a hearty meal and drink, then went to bed.
Lying on the comfortable bed, Ethan stared at the ceiling, calculating everything in his mind.
Now everything was ready, just waiting for that wind to blow across.
However, that wind was also something Ethan impulsively triggered last night.
He wasn't entirely sure it would indeed blow to the West District.
But fortunately, he had recently gained more of Isis' power, which might allow him to influence this great wind.
Closing his eyes, Ethan immersed his senses into the 'True God's Name,' and along the surrounding vines, he reached the Sea God's authority, where a teardrop-containing scale was quietly revolving.
Ethan attempted to link himself to it.
In the next moment.
His consciousness rapidly swayed, suddenly arriving above a vast sea.
But instead of the usual sunny skies, overhanging clouds had drifted from afar.
The sea surface rose and fell differently; this was the Sea of Gold.
