Chapter 427: Chapter 425: New class

The morning sun gently lit up the quiet classroom where all of Seojun’s students were gathered, each sitting in their seats with different moods.

Yoora sat with her arms crossed, letting out a loud yawn without caring if anyone noticed. Nathan as usual was leaning forward on his desk, eyes close but listening.

Sion was seated a little farther at the back, chewing gum with a blank expression, tapping his fingers slowly on the desk as if time passed too slow. On the other hand, Hannah was sitting up straight, her eyes focused and ears open as she listened carefully, same with Nayoung beside her who nodded now and then with a light smile.

Minseok and Jinhyu were beside each other, while Elshienne quietly observed the new face standing in front. Nymira was there too, seated on one of the side chairs, her legs crossed, arms relaxed, but her eyes never leaving the man in front of the class.

The man who stood before them wore a calm smile, his hands resting behind his back.

"I’m sure most of you already know who I am," he said with a light chuckle, "but even so, let me properly introduce myself. I’m Alex Ford..." He took a deep breathe, "Some of the professors in this academy have... certain opinions when it comes to Professor Jihoon’s class, They’ve refused to accept any of you into their classes...Min Yoora is the only exception So I’m really sorry about their attitude. You all deserve better than that."

"It’s okay, Prof!" Nayoung grinned brightly, waving her hand in the air. "As long as we’re learning something cool, who cares!"

Hannah calmly adjusted her glasses and nodded. "We understand, Professor."

Alex gave them a grateful smile.

Then Jinhyu glanced toward Yoora with a small tilt of his head. "How about you, Yoora? You’re not gonna join other classes?"

Yoora had her elbow resting on the desk, chin on her hand, eyes lazily half-lidded.

"Isn’t it obvious?" she said. "They’re only want me because I’m a top ranker’s daughter. I don’t want fake respect or special treatment." Then her eyes slowly shifted toward Alex. "I prefer it here... where no one’s pretending. So let’s move on, Professor Alex."

Alex paused for a second, then gave a short nod, his tone respectful. "Alright then. Let’s continue, From today on I will be your temporary Professor of Alchemy." free𝑤ebnovel.com

Alex turned slightly to the side where Seojun was sitting calmly in the front row, eyes half-closed but clearly listening. He sighed lightly, rubbing the back of his neck as he continued speaking.

"Jihoon’s alchemy methods are... too advanced for most of you," he admitted with a small laugh. "Even he never learned the basics properly. That’s why I’m here. I’ll be teaching you the proper foundation of alchemy until you’re good enough to understand his way."

Everyone nodded in understanding, though some seemed disappointed they wouldn’t be learning from Seojun directly.

"I thought today’s class would be boring since there’s no fighting, hehehee," she whispered and raised her hand quickly, "I’m curious, Professor Alex! What exactly is Professor Jihoon’s method?"

Alex walked closer to the desk, "Professor Jihoon’s method is very different from the usual alchemy you’ll see in books or other classes."

He paused, looking at the curious faces around him.

"Jihoon’s method...No fire. No furnace. just the ingredients laying down in the table and then uses mana directly. With full control, he reshapes that mana into a reaction. And when it’s done, it doesn’t boil or bubble like usual. It simply forms—like pop!—a finished product appears."

"Wait... you mean the potion just appears?" Yoora asked.

"Sometimes it appears as a liquid inside a bottle," Alex said, "sometimes it’s compresses into a pill, depending on what he’s making."

The students blinked in surprise, a few leaning forward with growing interest.

"He absorbs natural elements from the air, ground, even sunlight," Alex continued. "And then, with that stored mana, he forms the ingredients during the alchemy process..

Hannah slowly raised her hand. "So... it needs a lot of mana?"

"Yes," Alex confirmed with a nod. "A massive amount. And more than that, perfect control. If you mess up, the mana won’t stabilize, and it might explode or backfire. That’s why you’re not ready for it yet."

"Whoa," Jinhyu muttered under his breath, clearly impressed.

"That’s actually kinda cool..." Minseok whispered.

Alex smiled again and clapped once to regain focus. "But don’t worry. You’ll all start with the basic method—simple mixing, heating, and measuring. Only when your control is steady and your mana strong will you try Professor Jihoon’s way."

"As if that is possible," Sion whispered.

Nayoung leaned toward Elshienne, grinning. "We really got a crazy professor, huh?"

Elshienne just smiled at her,

"Let’s start with something simple. What is alchemy?" Alex asked.

Minseok raised his hand confidently, sitting up straighter in his chair.

"Yes, Minseok?" Alex said, pointing at him with a nod.

"Alchemy is the study of changing materials using mana. You use magic to create something new—like potions, pills, or tools that can help in healing or combat."

Alex nodded in approval. "Good. That’s the heart of it—changing one thing into another using magic."

Then he asked, "So, what’s the usual process to do that?"

Areum answered, "Most alchemists use a furnace or cauldron. They need a steady flame, usually from a mage, to heat the ingredients. Some use scrolls, recipes, or even crystals to control the reaction. Then they add mana slowly while watching for changes like color, smoke, or smell."

Alex nodded again. "Exactly. That’s the traditional way of alchemy. Very good, Areum. I’m glad you still remember despite being absent for a few months."

Areum nodded, and Hannah clapped smiling at hear. Areum can’t help but smile a little and look away.

Alex looked around the classroom, his gaze stopping at Yoora, Hannah, Areum and Minseok. "You four," he said, "I checked your records. The academy offers basic alchemy to awakening students — did any of you take it?"

Yoora shook her head. Hannah glanced at Minseok, who answered first."We attended the classes, yes... but it was just theory," Minseok admitted.

"We were taught what alchemy is, and the process," Hannah added, "but we never really did anything. No actual potion-making.

"Waste of time," Areum muttered.

"Professors persuade me to take other classes that will help me grow than making potions." Yoora said.

Alex let out a quiet sigh. "I figured as much."

He crossed his arms and looked at the rest of the class. "It should’ve been mandatory from the start, but only now are they implementing it. Alchemy isn’t just for potion masters or support types anymore — everyone should learn the basics, even if it’s just a little. "

He turned and walked to the side of the classroom, where a long table stood with several baskets stacked on top. Picking one up, he returned and placed it down with a soft thud.

"Come closer," Alex said, "Jihoon, you too. Pay attention."

Seojun, seated at the far side of the room, lifted his head and his eyes followed as Alex began laying out the contents of the basket onto the longer table.

Leaves — dark green, dry, slightly curled — spread across the surface. Some were still attached to thin stems, others were chopped finely like herbs.

Alex began, "This is called Virentis Leaf. One of the most common ingredients in beginner healing potions. Today, you’re not just going to learn what it does — you’re going to use it."
