Chapter 134: Olivia - Lucky Dice

"Another map?" Rover frowned, murmuring.

"Alright! This is hard to explain. Do you need something from me?" Dark Lord laughed. "Lately those guys have been busy with side quests too, the shared channel hasn’t been active much. You probably have a lot you want to ask me, right?"

"Yes." Rover organized his thoughts a bit, then asked about what he’d run into in the mental hospital side quest.

"Looks like you found a small fragment of the main storyline," Dark Lord said.

"Main storyline?" Rover frowned. "What’s that?"

"As you already know, since this world is basically a game, besides the main quest there are also side quests. If you’re lucky, while experiencing a side quest you can also pick up a piece of the main storyline."

Dark Lord explained.

"I’ve picked up a piece of the main storyline too. After comparing notes with others, I can roughly picture the structure of this world."

"This world was originally a parallel world to Earth, but some bizarre event caused a spatial rift to appear. Countless mysterious phenomena and aberrant creatures poured out of that rift."

"The survivors discovered the world had begun operating under a new set of rules that covered everything. They started following those rules to survive. Maybe that rule was defending the rooms we’re in."

"But the government still didn’t accept it. They wanted more, so they carried out many research plans and experiments on real human bodies, but they all failed."

"Not only did they fail to find a way to limit the supernatural phenomena, they actually created a batch of monsters even more terrifying. The world quickly sank into chaos."

After hearing that, Rover frowned and asked softly, "So... did they create the Abilities we’re using now?"

"That’s right!" Dark Lord replied. "Based on what others found, the scientists managed to imitate the Abilities those aberrants possessed. But they were all fake versions, and there are definitely many flaws inside."

Rover nodded and continued, "Then where did the System come from?"

Dark Lord answered honestly, "No one knows. Right now, the System’s existence is still a mystery. But everyone has come to three hypotheses."

"One: The System was created by the government to find Survivors capable of surviving and saving this world."

"Two: The System was created by a godlike existence, turning this world into a cage. Making everyone fight until only one remains, and that person becomes the next god."

"Three: The System was created by an existence opposed to whatever caused this world’s catastrophe, wanting to create people capable of surviving and gradually pushing back the aberrant creatures engulfing this world."

"Of course, people lean toward the third hypothesis. The information I have is only that much for now."

Rover rubbed his chin and glanced at Nanoe. She was thinking too.

Morie suddenly spoke. "I want to ask about Lamp-bearers and Arbiters. What roles do they play?"

Dark Lord thought for a moment, then said, "Lamp-bearers, we still can’t pin down. Their movements aren’t just strange, their way of acting doesn’t follow any rules at all. The only thing everyone can summarize is that they’re people who explore the world and find those with great potential."

Rover remembered the young man named John he’d met in the mental hospital mission. If that was true, that guy was probably a Lamp-bearer too.

He still clearly remembered what John had said, that his potential was huge and he couldn’t die right now.

"As for the Arbiters..." Dark Lord continued. "They’re Survivors like us too, but chosen by the System to take on an important duty: preventing aberrant creatures from invading the areas of low-level Survivors."

"This world doesn’t only have missions, it also has many extremely high-level monsters. People call them Wild Aberrants. Sometimes they wander into areas of Survivors like you. When that happens, the Arbiters stop or eliminate them."

After hearing that, Rover felt he understood this world a bit more. Of course, there were many other secrets, but for now, this much information was already enough.

Rover asked again, "Do you know anything about Tenant tiers?"

He began explaining his confusion about Tenant tiers.

"That... I don’t know either, but maybe you can ask someone else on frequency 177hz," Dark Lord said. "She knows more than I do. I’ve been alone, so I don’t know much about Tenant-related info."

"Thank you," Rover said.

Dark Lord laughed mysteriously. "Hahaha... If you meet her, just say I introduced you. Also, you can try seeing if you can become her husband, hahaha..."

"Heh?! What does that mean?" Rover asked, confused.

Dark Lord didn’t explain, only said, "You’ll know when the time comes. She’s a weirdo too. Alright, I need to check my haul this time. If I get any info, I’ll tell you."

"Thank you," Rover said.

Dark Lord said, "No need to thank me. Bye!"

The radio cut off. Rover thought for a moment, then said, "Tune to the frequency he mentioned. I want to learn about upgrading Tenant tiers."

Nanoe nodded and started searching for frequency 177hz.

For Rover, raising a Tenant’s tier was extremely important. It not only strengthened the Tenant, it also massively increased the Omni Points they could provide.

Very soon, the frequency connected.

On the other side came a heavy, unfriendly female voice. "Who is it?"

Rover frowned. He felt her attitude wasn’t very friendly, but thinking they were all "Chosen," a bit of arrogance was normal.

He took a deep breath and said, "Hello, I’m a Survivor with the ’Chosen One’s radio,’ my name is Rover. Dark Lord introduced me to you. I’m hoping to understand more about upgrading Tenants."

The other side went silent for a long time. Rover felt the other party didn’t want to talk to him, so he sighed and was about to switch channels when another voice sounded.

"Hello~"

"Heh?!" Rover was genuinely shocked.

This voice was extremely pleasant, seductive, like it was enchanting the listener, like a feather brushing across his desire.

"I’m Olivia. Nice to meet you."

Rover was confused. Could it be this person and the one from earlier were two completely different people?

He was confused, but still replied politely, "Nice to meet you. I’m Rover."

"Hehehe... Rover, what do you want with me?"

Rover took a deep breath, feeling a faint itch in his chest. Did this woman’s voice come with an aphrodisiac? Just a few words and he already felt restless.

But very quickly, he calmed down and said softly, "Miss Olivia, I want to ask about Tenant tiers and how to level them up. Of course, if you want me to pay, you can name a reasonable price."

"Ah~ Don’t talk about money, it makes us feel distant."

Hearing Olivia, he cursed inwardly: ’Are we close?’

Olivia continued, "How many people are in your room right now? Any female Tenants?"

Rover frowned and answered honestly, "Four. They’re all female."

"What?!" Olivia’s voice suddenly rose, sharp and piercing, like she couldn’t believe it. "Four? Aren’t you tired?"

Rover: "..."

Morie, Selina, Nanoe, and Monica all covered their mouths and laughed, looking at him with a bit of teasing.

He gritted his teeth. "Miss Olivia, that has nothing to do with you, does it?"

"How does it not? You are..."

"I am...?"

"Nothing, hehehe..."

Rover: "..."

He felt a headache coming on, about to say something, when her voice sounded again.

"First time meeting, I’m giving you a few things. Don’t refuse."

"Hm?!" Rover frowned, but before he could say anything, a notification popped up in front of him.

[Ding! You have received a trade invitation from Olivia. Do you accept?]

Rover rubbed his chin and decided to accept.

But when he saw the items she sent, he froze, eyes full of disbelief.

"Miss Olivia, are you mixing something up?"

"No, hehehe..." She laughed mischievously. "It’s a gift for you."

"We don’t even know each other, right?" Rover frowned. After all, this was the first time they’d spoken, yet her behavior was weird, like she’d known him for a long time.

"Guess?" Olivia said, full of meaning.

Rover tried to search his memory, but still couldn’t find any information about the name Olivia.

Olivia laughed. "Alright! I’ll tell you later. For what you asked, I attached the info in the trade."

"Good!" Rover said. "Thank you. Then... I’ll end the call here."

"Eh?! You don’t want to talk to me?" Olivia said, full of disappointment. "You don’t want to ask about me? Like how pretty I am, or whether I have a boyfriend, or my body measurements..."

"Alright! Alright!" Rover cut in. "I have something to handle. I’ll contact you later."

After saying that, he immediately turned off the radio and let out a long sigh of relief.

"Hahaha... Master..." Selina walked up and hugged his arm, swaying gently. "Please give us your thoughts on being passionately pursued. How does it feel?"

Rover sighed. "Tiring! She definitely has some scheme. We only talked to her for the first time, how could she treat us so well? You all should be on guard."

Nanoe tilted her head. "She really seems to like you. I just don’t understand why."

"Heh?! Why would you say that?"

"Intuition."

"..."

Rover fell silent, then looked at the items Olivia had traded him. No, to be precise, the items she had gifted him.
