Infinite Evolution: My Idle Evolution System-Chapter 376 - 5/7]
Stopping Cassius once more was the anxious Zaraphina. She flew up to him, tugging on the hem of his robe, unable to even meet the dead gaze attached to an otherworldly handsome face.
"P-Please don't leave me..." Zara murmured desperately. "I... We don't have to get m-married right now. Just please allow me to stay by your side; I can help... You needed Exisia to help you with finding someone, right? Well, I... I can help as well; my family has contacts everywhere in the Heavenly Kingdom."
Exisia involuntarily shuddered when Zara mentioned her, but contrary to how she assumed Zara would act, she treated the value placed behind her name as if she were just another random person.
Relief washed over Exisia as she flashed a grateful look at Cassius.
Without him…
Without him, she was afraid she'd either have to give in to Zaraphina's cruel demands or make the even more shameful decision of returning to her father to request assistance. But now, with Cassius in the picture, neither terrible option became her reality.
"Stinky, stupid b*tch...!!" Yimin fiercely growled, with the only thing stopping her from clawing out Zaraphina's throat being Cassius's hands. "Will eatchu!!!"
Zara, too absorbed in staring into Cassius's eyes, didn't even seem to register the repeated death threats being slung her way. In particular, she found herself listlessly watching every minute movement his lips made, her urges growing by the second.
"You wish to help me?" asked Cassius, aware but unbothered by her inner thoughts. "And you'll do so for nothing in return?"
Zara shook her head. "What I want is to be beside you. That is compensation enough for me."
"I see." Cassius furrowed his brows deeply in thought. 'I would prefer not to add any more headaches to my agenda, but seeing as three hands are better than one, I suppose I can string her along for now. As for the future, well... I'll leave that to the future me.'
Future you says, "Screw you, motherfuc—!"
"Fine then," said Cassius, enlarging the protective bubble to fit all of them, which warmed Zaraphina's heart. "You can tag along, and we're departing now. Time is of the essence, you see."
With the Yggdrasil Tournament fast approaching, he hardly had time to waste.
Zara's heart leapt with joy as she bounced over to Cassius, toughly resisting the urge to cling to him and sniff him all over. 'Must not come on too strong... I have to get him to like me...!'
Unbeknownst to one Sir Cassius Dense Balls, the demon girl he thoughtlessly picked up off the side of the street like a stray cat already had a plan set in motion.
One that ended with her sticking around... more permanently.
Nevertheless, time within the Ascension Tower passed undisturbed. Many formidable forces started making moves, preparing both for one of the most vital competitions to further growth, as well as the destined Tower-wide Nexus Event.
One sure to be the largest and most chaotic in history.
— An Unspecified Amount of Time Later —
"You say someone is asking to see me?" asked the divinely beautiful Mikaela, her wings fluttering ever so slightly behind her.
"He says his name is Cassius Steele," replied an eight-winged angel bowing below a floating heavenly bed. "As for his purpose, he has stated that he—"
"It's fine," said Mikaela, gliding off her bed. "If it's who I think it is, then he requires no reason for visiting. Have him come in right away."
"Ye... Yes, My Lady," replied the eight-winged angel, a bit shocked by the words of the Archangel. "Should I have him come in through the back doors, so as to not disturb the Young Miss—"
"Naturally."
With that, the eight-winged angel nodded before vanishing.
A few seconds later, the angel returned with a lone man. One whose beauty surpassed even Mikaela's.
An interested gleam formed in her gold-crossed eyes; the more she tried to understand what this man was, the more her interest surfaced.
"So you're his son?" she remarked. "You're certainly as much of an enigma as he was."
Already knowing full well who she was talking about, Cassius smirked.
Bowing ever so slightly, he said, "It's my honor to make your acquaintance, Archangel Mikaela, the strongest of the Archangels. You're as beautiful as the rumors make you out to be."
"A flirt just as sweet-tongued as your father, I see," Mikaela arched an amused brow. "I do wonder if you're as competent as he is as well. Would you mind hitting me with your strongest attack? I'd like to see just what sort of man ensnared the innocent heart of my daughte—" ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
BOOM!
In an instant and without hesitation, Cassius blurred his fist into Mikaela's stomach, producing a deafening boom. The force behind his attack had been more than enough to reduce a third-level layer of reality to cinders.
However…
Other than being pushed back a couple of millimeters, Archangel Mikaela was entirely unharmed.
"Are you alright, my Lady!?"
The concerned shouts of her royal guards came from outside her room, and with a growing smile, she told them off. After which, she refocused on the slightly disappointed man staring at his fist with a helpless expression.
"Young Cassius Steele, are you disheartened that your attack couldn't harm me?" asked Mikaela, her amusement clear in her tone. "You know the number of people who can do what you just did—albeit with all my defenses down—can be counted within the Godlike Rank."
Even so, Cassius shook his head slowly. "It doesn't matter. All the bones in my hand broke the moment I touched you; the difference between us is so insurmountable that I find it ridiculous I even believed I could scratch you."
"Fufu~," Archangel Mikaela giggled. "To think you'd be this intriguing of an existence. And your appearance... Are you sure you're not the angelic being here? Well… those wings would say otherwise, but we both know the truth."
Cassius's expression stretched before returning to normal, a wry chuckle echoing. "It would seem I can't hide anything from you," he said. "But do you not wish to avenge all the angels I stole the bloodlines of?"
