"100 years just for a Class Change?" Cassius asked, his eyes widening in disbelief. "Exactly how long am I going to be stuck here…?"

[Until you've advanced to another, higher Tier of Character Development, obviously!]

[Good luck, dear Host!]

[Oh, and one more thing, any Experience Points acquired inside the Challenges will be cut into a thousandth what you'd normally get. The cost for making exact replicas of the real things is quite high, ya know? Cuts had to be made somewhere!]

[But fret not, this minor issue will only develop your Character even more than before, umu~!]

FASHING!

The lowest of the Common-ranked Platforms then presented itself to Cassius, clearly beckoning him forth. To the seemingly endless staircase of multi-colored Platforms he went.

Upon landing both feet on the bobbing white Platform, he was instantly presented with a pop-up screen. It was a screen that informed him of what lay ahead were he to accept the Challenge of the Platform.

BLING!

[Challenge 1: Defeat 5 Goblins] - [Tier: Common]

[Reward: 3 Class Points]

[Accept?] - [Y/N]

Cassius clicked yes. He then experienced a warp in his vision; everything started to swirl for him.

When the swirling came to a stop, he found himself inside of a 10-meter by 10-meter space. Green bushes and trees surrounded him and the sky above was but a mere illusion.

Also, primitively staring at him with their beady black eyes were Goblins.

The Goblins stood in at no more than 5 feet tall, but their unruly stances and the way drool ceaselessly trickled down their crusted green lips gave them an eerie appearance. No sense of empathy or compassion seemed to be present within their eyes. And while roughly holding onto a crude dagger or club, they approached the Invader.

"Goblins, huh?" Cassius asked, uncaring about their approach. "That sure brings me back."

With a reminiscent glint in his gaze, he blurred.

Without even giving the Goblins a chance, he slid his copy of Lilith through the tender green skin that connected their heads to their necks. They then immediately absorbed the blood of the Goblins, which created several floating trails of blood behind them.

*Ding!*

[You have slain all 5 Goblins!]

[Your Experience Bar barely moved!]

[You have obtained 3 Class Points, bringing your total Class Point amount to 3.]

[Challenge 1 Completed!]

Following that last notification, Cassius was transferred outside of the Challenge area. He reappeared in the same white space as before, where he was then presented with the choice of choosing 1 out of 10 Common-tier Platforms. Each had a pointage ranging between 5 and 15.

Cassius naturally chose the Platform with the highest points. He casually jumped over to it and observed the new pop-up screen.

[Challenge 2: Defeat an Orc] - [Tier: Common]

[Reward: 15 Class Points]

[Accept?] - [Y/N]

Cassius clicked yes, then experienced something similar to the first time he accepted a Challenge.

However, this time, he reappeared not in a small isolated jungle. Instead, he materialized above a cut-off mountain peak with about a 25-meter by 25-meter surface area. Domineeringly standing opposite him was a 5-meter-tall orangish-green monster. Like the Goblins, this monster possessed no intelligence and was purely driven by savage instinct and rage. Rage that it used right away by charging at Cassius while swinging around a spiked club nearly as big as it was.

"It appears that we're going through all the classics," Cassius said as he entered the speed stream. "What fun."

He reappeared behind the Orc, in his right hand a blood-soaked Lilith. He was completely unharmed.

The Orc, on the other hand, had lost all its limbs and its boar-like head in their brief exchange…

*Ding!*

[You have slain the Orc!]

[Your Experience Bar barely moved!]

[You have obtained 15 Class Points, bringing your total Class Point amount to 18!]

[Challenge 2 Completed!]

[Initiating Return Process!]

FWIP!

Cassius blinked and found himself in the White Space. Right away, he noticed how the Platform he was standing on lit up in a show of golden brilliance; the same thing happened for the first Platform he completed the Challenge of.

As for the rest of the Platforms among the 10 that Cassius didn't choose, they grayed out.

It became abundantly clear that what he was doing was paving a path for himself with the Platforms. But as to why the System was having him do this, he was still unsure. And with the System's irritating personality, it was unlikely that it'd tell him anything until the very end.

[Bingo! Good boy!]

Cassius coldly scoffed before shifting his eyes toward the new set of 10 Platforms presenting themselves to him. They were of the Common Tier, same as the previous ones, but above them sat numbers far greater.

Yet, knowing exactly which one he wanted, Cassius chose the one with the largest number above it.

He was not overcompensating; he simply liked 'em big.

The bigger, the better.

[Challenge 3: Defeat 2 Knight Slayers] - [Tier: Common]

[Reward: 55 Class Points]

[Accept?] - [Y/N]

This was what Cassius saw once the Platform singled itself out from the others. He had never seen a Knight Slayer before, but if he was correct in his assumptions, they were sure to be pretty strong. Stronger than an Orc, at least.

2 Seconds Later…

SPURT! SPURT!

The scaly black heads of two humanoid lizard monsters sailed through the air above a sectioned-off plot of swamp land. What remained of the 4-meter-tall, creepy lizardmen unceremoniously plopped to the ground. Blood poured out of their severed necks, with the blood even capable of staining and polluting the shallow swamp water. Various insects and tiny animals could also be seen wandering the area as corpse-eating flies swarmed the Knight Slayer corpses.

"The worlds inside of the Challenge Platforms really are quite interesting," Cassius said while coolly slinging off the blood dripping down Lilith. "They each have unique, contained elements, making the worlds indistinguishable from the genuine articles."

The more he saw what the Idle Evolution System could do, the more amazed he became. In his heart—excluding all the despise he felt for it—he felt nothing other than extreme reverence for the System.

It felt like the System could do anything at any time it so wished, with the only thing holding it back being its insistence on Character Development. If not for that, it was highly possible that he would've been made stronger than anything the Universe had to offer as soon as the System was activated.

But unfortunately for his pain-prone self, that was not the case…
