Infinite Body Refining System-Chapter 11: Human’s Nature
Chapter 11: Human's Nature
A tense silence gripped the village.
"Hey... Hey, Captain, where is Wuji? That thing up there is looking for him," a Night Guard member whispered, barely able to steady his voice. His fingers clenched around his weapon, but his knuckles were pale with fear.
The other members turned toward Captain Long, waiting for him to speak. They needed a command—a decision—but the veteran warrior remained silent, his head lowered in contemplation.
Above them, the dark-robed figure floated mid-air, his aura suffocating. He exuded absolute confidence, his presence an unshakable force of destruction.
"I'll give you all ten minutes," the figure finally declared, his tone dripping with arrogance. "Bring me that man... or prepare to be wiped out."
His voice carried no emotion—only the weight of death. He didn't ask—he commanded. And to him, the lives of the people below were as insignificant as ants under his feet.
For a moment, nobody spoke. The villagers and Night Guard members stood frozen, their hearts pounding. The realization set in—they were powerless before this being.
Then, a commotion started.
The villagers, upon hearing Wuji's name, exchanged nervous glances. Panic settled in. And in times of fear, true human nature reveals itself.
"Captain, let's just find Wuji and give him to the man," a villager suddenly spoke, his voice breaking the silence.
"Yes, Captain! I have a wife and a son—I can't die here!" another pleaded.
"But Wuji saved us before! Are we really going to betray him?" one of the Night Guards argued.
"Does it matter?! If we don't, we all die!" another spat back.
The crowd broke into arguments—half demanding Wuji be handed over, the other half filled with guilt at the idea of betraying the very man who once saved them.
Yet, despite all the voices, only one Night Guard openly disagreed. And his lone voice was drowned in the chaos.
Captain Long remained silent, his expression grim, his heart torn.
Then, amidst the shouting—
"I... I know where Wuji lives. His aunt is there," a villager spoke hesitantly.
Silence.
The man was panicking, his hands shaking—perhaps from fear, or perhaps from regret. After all, Aunt Mei had once fed him when he had nothing.
A long, drawn-out sigh escaped Captain Long's lips.
"...We have no choice," he finally said. "Go to Wuji's house. Now."
At his words, the crowd immediately moved. Torches were grabbed, weapons were drawn. The hunt had begun—not for a monster, but for a man who had saved them before.
Yet, before all of this had unfolded, one person had already made a move.
Fatty Wong, loyal to Wuji to his core, had already sprinted toward his house long before the crowd turned against him. He could feel something was about to go terribly wrong.
And in his mind, only one thought rang—he had to get Aunt Mei out of there.
Wuji's Home.
A loud knock rattled the door.
Aunt Mei turned to see a fat, sweating man panting at the entrance, his face full of panic and urgency.
"Who are you?" Aunt Mei asked, frowning.
"You're Boss Wuji's aunt, right?! We need to leave. NOW!" Fatty Wong blurted, his voice desperate.
Aunt Mei's brows furrowed, confused. "Leave? What do you mean—?"
"Wuji has been missing for a week! And now, someone is looking for him! If we stay here, they'll take you!" Fatty explained rapidly.
Aunt Mei froze.
Only she knew Wuji had been missing. The Night Guard members had convinced themselves he was merely training somewhere, far stronger than them.
Fatty didn't need to explain anymore. She understood immediately.
Just as she grabbed a bag and prepared to leave, they were too late.
A mob of villagers and Night Guards appeared at the entrance of the house.
"That's her! That's Wuji's aunt!" someone shouted.
They marched forward, their faces twisted with a mixture of fear and desperation.
"BRING OUT WUJI OR WE ALL DIE!"
The chant grew louder and louder, the mob mentality taking over. Even the Night Guards Wuji once saved joined in, their voices the loudest of them all.
Then, a voice shattered the false hope they clung to.
"Lowly humans are so predictable," the robed figure mocked, his voice slithering through the air. "You truly believe a Deva would be hiding in his home like a scared rat?"
Silence.
Then, a cruel laugh.
"But I should thank you all—you've brought me his loved ones instead."
The air grew colder as dark energy surged around the robed figure, coiling like living shadows. A staff materialized in his grasp, forged from abyssal energy.
"Humans ostracized me before because I embraced the abyss..." he murmured, his voice laced with venom.
"But isn't that the reason I became like this?" His lips curled into a sinister grin. "It wasn't the abyss that turned me into a monster. It was humanity."
Without another word—he swung the staff.
Orbs of dark energy shot through the air, whistling toward the village. The moment they touched down—
BOOOOOM!
Explosions erupted. Houses were obliterated, people were flung like ragdolls, and the once-lively village was set ablaze.
Fatty Wong and Aunt Mei barely dove into the house in time, the walls shaking from the blast.
From within the wreckage, Fatty Wong's trembling voice whispered, "Boss... please, come save us."
Tears streamed down their faces as they heard nothing but screams outside.
At that moment, a shadow loomed over the debris.
"Did you really think I was careless enough to let you escape?" the robed figure sneered, his voice soaked in amusement.
Aunt Mei and Fatty Wong screamed as dark energy coiled around their bodies, lifting them into the air.
"DEVA!" The figure's voice boomed, shaking the heavens. "If you do not come out, your loved ones will be erased from existence!"
The abyssal energy amplified his voice, sending it echoing into the deep forest.
Deep within the forest...
Little Red, in his original small form, paced back and forth in distress.
He could feel it—the energy in the village was dark, oppressive. Something terrible was happening.
"Boss, if you don't wake up now... something really bad is going to happen," he murmured.
Then—
The cocoon shattered.
BOOOOM!
Wuji emerged, now 3 meters tall, his body wrapped in black scales streaked with red lightning. His clawed hands twitched, his dark violet armor gleamed, and two curved horns protruded from his head.
But what was truly terrifying—was his aura.
A massive, fanged, eyeless black whale formed behind him, its mouth stretching unnaturally wide.
It wasn't just an aura. It was Wuji's will.
A will that devours everything—to evolve endlessly.
GLORIOUS FUCKING EVOLUTION.
Wuji clenched his fists.
For the first time ever, he felt true power.
Then—a dreadful sensation crawled up his spine.
"Wait... why do I feel like this...?"
"Boss!" Little Red cried. "The village is in danger!"
The moment those words reached his ears—
Wuji's heart dropped.
Something in his chest twisted painfully, his instincts screaming at him.
But why? Why would Wuji, who pursued evolution above all, feel this way about a mortal people?
