Infernal Entity: Evolving With My Demonic System-Chapter 46: Godrend Stolen?
Axel carried Rick all the way back to the first-year dorm complex. Rick was skinny, so his weight was not much of an issue, and with Axel’s increased strength, it felt even easier.
Carrying an unconscious body across the school was unconventional, and surely against the rules. If anyone saw him, it would raise questions immediately. Luckily for Axel, it was already past 9 p.m. Most students had settled in for the night, either resting or locked away in their rooms.
Sneaking Rick inside their dorm room turned out to be far easier than Axel expected.
He gently laid Rick on his bed and watched him for a moment. Rick’s breathing was slow and steady and his face was calm as if nothing had happened.
Tonight had changed everything for Axel.
Especially now that he was no longer human.
"He will remain asleep for a time," Aurora said from within him.
Axel glanced at Rick, then rested his back against the wall.
"Do demons sleep?" Axel asked suddenly.
Aurora gave a short, amused hum.
"Of course you do," she replied. "All beings must rest eventually. Though demons require far less sleep than humans. Some of your kind can go weeks without closing their eyes."
Axel nodded slowly.
There was still so much he did not understand.
Aurora herself or rather, itself was a mystery. The system was a mystery. Becoming a demon was definitely not something Axel ever expected, even in a world full of powers and monsters.
"How did I get this system, Aurora?" Axel asked. "Who are you, really? What is all of this? I thought the system was part of my mutation. Is becoming a demon also a mutation? What kind of mutation even does this?"
There was no response. The entity that refused to call itself an AI went silent. That only made Axel more frustrated.
"Aren’t demons supposed to be evil?" Axel asked. "I’m not evil... am I?"
Aurora finally answered.
"Not yet," she said. "But do not be so confident. Power changes all things. In time, corruption will cling to you. Hunger will grow. And you will not remain as you are."
"What is this Corruption thing on my profile?" he asked.
"Corruption is the path," she answered. "It decides how you evolve and how strong you become. Without it, you will remain a weak little Imp, stuck at the bottom of the food chain."
"Evolve?" Axel asked. "There’s another evolution after this?"
"Yes," Aurora replied. "Several. Though with your current wit, I doubt you will survive long enough to see them."
Axel decided to ignore the insult.
"Then what are the other evolution stages?" he asked.
Aurora sighed audibly in his mind.
"You ask a lot of questions, Imp. Check your system," she said. "That is why it exists. I am here to guide, not to think for you."
Axel did exactly that. He opened the system interface and navigated to the Evolution tab.
[Evolution]
[Current Stage: Imp]
[Next Evolution Stage: Demon Warden]
[ Archdemon — <Locked>]
[Demon Overlord — <Locked>]
Reading through the Evolution list, Axel realized that he still had a long way to go. A very long way to go. But for now, he would focus on the pressing issue at hand. Ares.
He was still trapped in the second-year block, locked into a brutal challenge controlled by students far stronger than him.
Axel clenched his fists. He knew he had grown stronger since his evolution. He could feel it clearly now. His body felt lighter, more responsive and more alive.
He had also increased in strength, stamina and speed since he evolved. He just hadn’t had the time to check how much. He immediately switched over to his status tab and his stats appeared right before him.
[Stats]
[Strength: 20]
[Speed: 20]
[Agility: 20]
[Intelligence: 15]
[Resistance: 15]
[Infernal Core (Lv. 2) — 100% Active]
"Whoa," Axel muttered. "I’ve gotten way stronger."
He stretched his arms and rolled his shoulders. His muscles responded instantly, smooth and powerful. The stiffness he used to feel was gone. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
If he tried breaking down a reinforced steel door now, one like the one he barely escaped through before, he knew he would smash it apart without much effort.
"I feel good..." Axel said quietly.
He also wondered how strong Hellrand Slash would be now if he infused it with the Godrend sword. The thought alone made his fingers itch.
He would need to test it soon.
"Dear host," Aurora’s voice called suddenly. "Are you certain you have not forgotten something?"
Axel paused.
"Forgetting what?" he asked.
Aurora gave an exaggerated sigh.
"By the infernal realms," she said. "You truly are an idiot."
That’s when it clicked instantly and Axel’s eyes widened.
"My sword."
"Shit! left it in that damned alleyway."
---
Axel didn’t waste any time.
The moment the realization hit him, he was already moving. He slipped out of the dorm room quietly, making sure the door closed without a sound behind him. The hallway was dim and mostly empty, only the low humming coming from the academy’s power systems was the only thing he could hear.
The Godrend sword must be lying there in that alley, and it was still soaked in blood. If anyone found it, they would know it was used to hurt a student or an officer. And it wouldn’t be hard to trace it back to him.
’Bloody idiot...’ Axel cursed himself silently as he broke into a run.
"Why do you think I have been calling you an Idiot, dear host? That is because you are. You are an Infernal idiot who is about to be caught..."
Aurora wasn’t helping Axel right now, she was only making him more tense.
Axel moved faster than he ever had before. His feet barely touched the ground as he crossed the walkways between the dorms and the outer blocks. The night air felt different now, sharper against his skin, like his senses were tuned higher than before.
He noticed his hearing was enhanced, every tiny sound, he could hear. Even his smell was superb now. But it wasn’t really an advantage.
Axel raced over to the Second-year area and the alleyway came into view.
Axel slowed down as he stepped into it. He managed to control his breathing as he came to a sharp halt.
This place was obviously a battle ground. The concrete walls were still scarred. Melted patches where Dane’s venom had eaten through the ground were easy to spot and cracks spidered outward where bodies had slammed into the floor.
His gaze moved to the exact spot where Dane had fallen and the blood was still there... but the Godrend sword was not there.
"Shit..." Axel muttered under his breath.
He took a step forward, then another, scanning the alley carefully. His eyes moved to the walls, the corners, the shadows. He half-expected the sword to be leaning against the concrete, or buried under rubble, or hidden somewhere nearby.
Nothing. The blade was gone.
The realization hit him slowly, then all at once.
That feeling he had earlier... It wasn’t a random feeling. Someone had been there.
Someone had been watching him.
Axel’s breathing grew heavier as the thought settled in his mind.
"Someone took it..."
