In Naruto with the Flame-Flame Fruit-Chapter 495: Nue
Kiyosuke and Naruto both lifted their heads, looking in the same direction.
"Looks like tonight won’t be peaceful."
He patted Boruto on the shoulder.
"Kid, since you’re clearly not convinced, I’ll let you see the strength of our generation."
"Something happened again?" Boruto asked.
Naruto let out a helpless smile.
"Really a terrible time for this. Kiyosuke-san, I’ll leave Boruto to you."
"Mm."
Kiyosuke said that, grabbed Boruto by the collar.
"What the— ahhh!!!"
Boruto screamed as everything around him blurred into streaks of light, vanishing too fast to process. In the blink of an eye he found himself at Konoha’s outskirts, where a giant beast was roaring inside the forest.
The creature had the head of a monkey, the body of a tanuki, the limbs of a tiger, and a snake for a tail. Its form was grotesque—and enormous, nearly the size of Gamabunta and other giant summons.
"I remember this thing is called a Nue, a creature similar to a chimera," Kiyosuke said quietly as he stood atop a cliff.
"What is that thing?" Boruto asked in shock.
"Something that could blow up half of Konoha if it goes off. Danzo’s been dead for over a decade and he’s still causing me trouble. Honestly."
"So hot..."
Boruto turned to see heat radiating from Kiyosuke’s body. Flame compressed and spun at his fingertips until it shrank to its absolute limit—then shot forward as a beam.
Boom!
In an instant, the Nue’s tail was pierced through.
"Roar!!"
The Nue shrieked in agony, roaring toward Kiyosuke.
"Purple Lightning!!!"
A figure dropped from above. A flash of violet thunder split through the air, severing the Nue’s tail entirely.
"Oh? Isn’t that Kakashi? Back from vacation?" Kiyosuke said once he saw who it was.
"Kakashi?" Boruto stepped closer, watching Kakashi slap both hands onto the ground as he shouted, "Earth Style: Multiple Earth-Flow Walls!"
A wall stacked several stories high rose from the ground. Ever since losing the Sharingan, Kakashi’s strength hadn’t decreased—if anything, he’d grown stronger. Purple Lightning was the new jutsu he had developed over the years.
It didn’t rely on the Sharingan for visual enhancement, nor did it need hand seals to activate. The concentrated violet lightning in his hand could cut through targets with overwhelming force. Like Chidori Stream, it could also burst outward in a large area of paralyzing currents—far wider than the original, a true full-range attack.
Without the Sharingan’s strain, his strength had improved dramatically.
"Come on." Kiyosuke grabbed Boruto and appeared beside Kakashi, greeting him. "Yo, Kakashi."
"Mm. Long time no see, Kiyosuke. Isn’t this Naruto’s kid? Why bring him here? This isn’t a place he should be." Kakashi said.
"Just wanted to broaden his horizons. Danzo’s creation is interesting—its regeneration is impressive."
After Kakashi severed the tail, the wound began regenerating, sprouting dozens of snake-head-like mini-tails that lunged at the incoming support squad.
Itachi appeared in a flicker.
"Sixth Hokage-sama, Kiyosuke-sama—the Nue can absorb chakra. Please be careful. Especially you, Kiyosuke-sama. Your chakra reserves rival a tailed beast’s. Please avoid getting hit."
"Don’t underestimate me, Itachi. It’s been a long time since I moved around. Time for a warm-up—to remind the younger generation what an old man like me can do."
He walked forward. Boruto glanced around; Itachi was already ordering ANBU and other shinobi to retreat.
Confused, he asked, "Why isn’t Dad here yet?"
Kakashi replied, "With Kiyosuke here, Naruto doesn’t need to make the trip. Back then, he soloed every village except Iwagakure."
Kiyosuke rolled his shoulders, then shot toward the Nue at high speed. In an instant he was above its head and slammed a heavy kick into its skull.
Boom!
"Whoa! Amazing!" Boruto stared wide-eyed as Kiyosuke knocked the Nue over. Seeing the wild grin on Kiyosuke’s face, Kakashi said, "Mm... looks like he’s in the mood for a real fight. Makes sense—since Naruto got married, he hasn’t taken any missions. There really aren’t many missions that require him anymore."
The Nue roared, lifting its car-sized claws and smashing them down on Kiyosuke—landing a direct hit.
But Kiyosuke caught it with one hand.
"Not interesting."
He heaved and flung the Nue aside, then followed with a barrage of taijutsu strikes.
"Kiyosuke, that’s enough. You know the caster can detonate that thing, right?"
"The caster is over there." Kiyosuke pointed toward a direction. "I’ll handle it. I’ll leave this thing to you all. Hashirama cells are such a pain—the Nue’s regeneration is beyond what I expected."
Hashirama cells were ridiculous. Even after so many years, they were still dragged out to be used as weapons—for medical experiments, weapon development, anything.
"Boruto, come with me."
He grabbed Boruto again, transporting him to a distant cliff. A boy and a girl were already there—Mitsuki had one knee on the back of a purple-haired girl, ready to drive his palm through her.
Seeing them, Boruto exclaimed, "Mitsuki? Class rep? Why are you two here?"
"Clearly your class rep is the culprit behind tonight’s incident. Well? After seeing the prototype, got anything to say?"
Boruto’s class rep, Kakei Sumire, broke free from Mitsuki and stood fully alert.
"I can’t believe you showed up yourself. I thought you’d ignore it—since you’re supposed to be retired."
"Retired? No, no. It’s just that there haven’t been any missions worthy of me. The money I earned from past missions is enough for a lifetime, and I’ve got multiple plots of land and shops in Konoha’s new development area. I’m not exactly short on cash."
He hadn’t been idle these past years—he invested heavily.
And he made more than enough.
His whole family lived comfortably, and his children were shinobi too—they weren’t hurting for money. He didn’t believe anyone could kill his kids. As long as they didn’t throw their lives away or run into a Kage-level monster, they would be fine.
So he felt perfectly at ease about their safety.
"Class rep... why you?" Boruto couldn’t believe that the usually shy and nervous class rep would try to attack Konoha.
"Kid, stop hiding. Get out here."
Kiyosuke suddenly said that, and Shinichi dropped down from a tree with a sheepish grin.
"Yeah, yeah, Dad—you caught me."
Everyone surrounded Kakei Sumire. She no longer had any chance of escaping.
