Immortal of the Nine Realms-Chapter 983: There Are Always Exceptions
Chapter 983: There Are Always Exceptions
Xu Ruinian was stunned, unsure of what had just happened.
By the time he snapped out of his shock, he saw a bridal procession, complete with gongs and drums, barging into the fiery chaos.
The red floral palanquin's curtain was gently pulled back, and Empress Ci stepped out with a smile, nodding toward Fang Chen.
"Lord, we've already captured the person and made sure he didn't have the chance to send any messages. I don't think anyone will find out."
A large toad followed closely behind Empress Ci. It seemed somewhat disoriented, but upon hearing her words, it fixed a fierce stare at Fang Chen.
"How did you know I exist?"
The toad, Huang Chan, was greatly shocked.
Every move the other party made was clearly designed to force him into revealing himself, then heading directly to the Green Elephant Sect, where his main body was in seclusion, to eliminate him.
If his main body died, his split soul would also perish, leaving him with no chance to send any messages. Just a moment ago, all his thoughts had been with the split soul, and only after the death will his main body react.
It seemed that every step the other party took was to ensure he had no chance to leave any messages.
Fang Chen smiled. "Why don't you take a guess?"
Huang Chan's face turned even uglier. At this point, he was already dead, only a wandering soul left with no temper to speak of.
Xu Ruinian suddenly exclaimed in awe, "I didn't expect my Master to be a Spirit Blood Sect cultivator. I am truly shocked."
He quickly cupped his fist toward Fang Chen, saying, "I was only afraid my master would silence me, so I followed his words. Actually, today's misunderstanding was also directed by my master, and I had no choice but to comply. My master is too shameless, and we, his disciples, are too ashamed to be associated with him. Today, my master was eliminated by someone sent by Daoist Fang. This is a great cause for celebration for all!"
Huang Chan coldly glared at Xu Ruinian. "You dare utter these words...."
Fang Chen sighed. "Even if I wanted to let you go, it would be hard to convince myself to believe you."
Xu Ruinian froze for a moment, then gave a somewhat apologetic smile. "I can't think of any other reason, so I can only do this to survive."
With that, he eagerly looked at Fang Chen. "Do I have a chance to live? If you're willing to spare me, Daoist Fang, I will become your dog from now on. If you ask me to bite anyone, I will do so without question."
Fang Chen glanced at Empress Ci.
Empress Ci immediately chuckled and waved her hand, pulling Xu Ruinian into the red floral sedan chair.
Xu Ruinian only needed a glance to see a toad corpse lying inside. It was none other than his master.
Fang Chen also stepped into the sedan and, looking at Huang Chan, smiled faintly and said, "Immortal King Huang Chan, I have one question for you. If you're willing to answer, you won't have to suffer."
"You're only asking me one question?" Huang Chan's face darkened. "Why not speak frankly? Why did you have to kill me on the spot and leave no room for mercy?"
Fang Chen said, "If I did, how would I know how many split souls you have? It would be too risky to leak any information and let Wang Chongsong find out."
"Wang Chongsong?" Huang Chan laughed in anger. "So it was from him that my identity was exposed. He prides himself on being a master of scheming, boasting of having thirty-six bone patterns—pah!"
He thought back to when he had recently visited the Void Immortal Sword Sect, and shortly after, Fang Chen had come to the Green Elephant Sect. It was almost immediate—barely any time had passed. He guessed that his whereabouts had to have been exposed during that trip.
He didn't believe that Wang Chongsong would betray the Spirit Blood Sect, but he simply couldn't figure out how Fang Chen had discovered his existence.
As this thought crossed his mind, Huang Chan looked at Fang Chen and said coldly, "Since I'm already dead, why should I answer your questions? You no longer have any leverage over me. If you want, just shatter my soul into nothing. Do you think I'm afraid?"
Fang Chen smiled and replied, "The old saying goes: As long as the mountain remains, there's no need to worry about firewood. I trust you understand this? Don't you want to be reincarnated, to climb back to the position of Immortal King in your next life?"
"Can you really make me reincarnate?" Huang Chan's brows furrowed slightly. "Do you think you can meddle in the matters of the Underworld?"
Empress Ci smiled. "If my lord can't manage it, then who can?"
Huang Chan was suddenly taken aback. Then, a chill ran down his spine. He stared intently at Empress Ci and exclaimed in shock, "You are a First Rate Sect Leader in the Underworld!"
"In the Underworld, we don't use that term. They call us the Major Yin Demons," replied Empress Ci with a soft laugh.
Huang Chan fell silent for a moment, his expression growing more solemn. Then, he slowly said, "What is it that you wish to know?"
Fang Chen asked directly, "Where is Fairy Yu?"
"Fairy Yu? You mean that little girl? You went to all this trouble to kill me, just to ask this?"
Huang Chan scoffed, clearly surprised by the question. He found it hard to believe
Fang Chen nodded.
Huang Chan remained silent for a long time. In the end, he coldly said, "How can I trust your promise? If I tell you, can you really make me reincarnate?"
"You have no choice. If you don't speak, I will throw you into the Forgotten River for millions of years," Fang Chen replied calmly.
Empress Ci smiled faintly. "As far as I know, my lord's word is as good as a decree. You don't need to worry about this."
Huang Chan said indifferently, "Even Loose Immortals show you such respect and obey your command. Your origins, just as Wang Chongsong said, are indeed mysterious. Very well, I will trust you this once."
After a pause, he revealed, "That girl you're asking about is currently in the Prison Wind Land, in the Great Luo Heavenly Desert."
Fang Chen's eyes narrowed. "What is her current situation?"
Huang Chan frowned. "What situation? Wang Chongsong only wanted to use her to control you, which is why I sent her to the Prison Wind Land."
Fang Chen replied, "The matter of the Inverse Immortal Demonic Embryo isn't some great secret. Just speak plainly. Don't hide it."
Huang Chan was silent for a moment before he nodded slightly. "She's already been corrupted. She's likely reached the Soul Splitting Realm by now, and is not far from achieving the Fusion Realm. I must admit, the Inverse Immortal Demonic Embryo can, in certain circumstances, be quite powerful. Unfortunately, in the end, she'll lose herself and become someone else entirely. Essentially, she will die."
Fang Chen asked, "You mean... she's already forgotten who she is?"
Huang Chan nodded. "Indeed."
Empress Ci, her heart stirred, stepped forward eagerly. "Lord, allow me to go to the Prison Wind Land and bring this girl back for you."
Fang Chen knew that Empress Ci wanted to go to the Prison Wind Land to resolve some personal grudges from her past life, so he didn't respond to her request. Instead, he continued asking, "Tell me more about Wang Chongsong's background."
Huang Chan pondered for a moment before answering, "His background... I'm not entirely sure. What I do know is that he has a significant influence in the Spirit Blood Sect. I suspect he may have originally been a reincarnated Loose Immortal, or perhaps even a True Immortal."
Fang Chen's gaze flickered. A reincarnated Loose Immortal or True Immortal?
That possibility wasn't completely out of the question.
Huang Chan continued, "That's all I know. Since the Killing Spiritual Division doesn't get along with the Spirit Blood Sect, I'll give you a list of Spirit Blood Sect cultivators. Whether or not they're useful, I can't say."
He then rattled off a series of names. As for their authenticity, he didn't have much evidence to back them up.
Fang Chen nodded and glanced at Empress Ci. "Throw him into the Forgotten River."
With that, he turned and walked out of the sedan.
Huang Chan stood there and looked at Empress Ci in shock. "Didn't you say your lord's words are trusted?"
After a brief pause, Empress Ci replied with a bright smile, "There is always an exception to everything."
