I'm Trying To Go Broke, So Why Do I Keep Getting Richer?!-Chapter 178: It’s normal to forget
Yang and Ulen were leaning against the hull of the repurposed freighter, looking remarkably bored for two men surrounded by an army. Still, they hadn’t forgotten their purpose.
As Leo went farther in the secret realm which was used by the old man like a treasury, the spatial crack looked smaller and smaller. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
"So... Where are the so-called treasures?" Leo asked, only for the old man to point ahead.
Another key appeared in his hand, and this time, an entire palace came into sight, even larger than the main mansion of the Lionel Family.
That’s where I keep the treasures. The higher the floor, the more valuable the treasures that are kept there.
"Follow me inside. You can tell me which treasures are fake, and I will keep them separately. Just don’t touch anything on your own."
The old man stopped before the main vault, and opened the door, revealing a majestic sight.
The palace looked large from outside, but it was even larger on the inside. There were rows of large shelves, each stocked with various treasures.
These were supposed to be the lowest grade of treasures in the Lionel Family Vault, yet for an ordinary person, they would’ve been their entire life’s savings.
As Leo was walking past the shelves, observing the items like an expert trying to find the fake explosives, he casually asked a question.
"Does your family also have a spare key? I am curious, what would’ve happened if you lost your main key to open this realm somewhere?"
"Do I look like a child who will lose my key? Why would I have a spare key for them? So they can rob me? Even though I love my family, I would never trust them with the key until I retire and select the next family lord."
He raised the main realm’s key in the air, as if flexing. "This is the one and only key to enter this realm. In any case, it isn’t as if I could make a spare key just because I wanted to."
The silver key in his hand looked the most ordinary in this place filled with treasures. But Leo’s eyes often went to it.
After all, the only reason he asked such a question was to ensure that there were no flaws in his plan.
"So you really have to be that suspicious of them? If they wanted to rob you, can a key really stop them? I’m sure there must be ways to blow an entrance to this dimension open forcefully?"
"Hah, if it was that easy, do you think this place would be called the safest place in the space sector? I don’t want to brag, but even the Union can’t open this place’s entrance without the key, no matter how forceful they are."
"Still, a place is as secure as the owner. Can’t your family just steal the key from you, and take everything from this place. It’s not as if you would have some kind of restrictions on this key. That would be next level security after all."
Leo kept interrogating the old man, as his fingers brushed against the treasures. He looked like he was genuinely curious, or was trying to have a small talk while searching this massive place.
"That’s true. This ring does have a restriction. I had to pay a lot to have that restriction carved on it. That’s why, let alone my family, no one else can steal this key from me either. It’s also connected to my life force."
"So if I die, the key would be destroyed as well, unless I transfer the ownership to someone else. Moreover, the key can’t be moved more than twenty meters away from me. I would feel it. Also, it can be destroyed with a single thought from me."
"So tell me now, does this feel secure yet? I’m sure even your union won’t have such a secure treasury!" the old man said.
"What’s the point of security?" Leo shook his head lightly. "Imagine you died of old age suddenly, without assigning the next owner. Won’t the ring simply be destroyed, and everyone will lose their treasures kept in your family vault forever?"
"Won’t your family be brought to the streets if that happened?"
The old man couldn’t see Leo’s face. He could only hear us question, even as the voice was growing distant.
As if Leo had touched a nerve, the old man scoffed. "You don’t have to worry about that. Just focus on finding the explosives. That’s what I paid you for..."
"I found one... Look at this..." Leo suddenly returned to the old man, the footsteps growing closer.
He had a small ring in his hand, which he was flashing before the old man.
He placed the ring in the old man’s hand, letting him observe.
"This thing... Was it really in the vault? Why don’t I remember placing it here?"
"You place so many things here, it’s normal to forget a few things," Leo casually answered, as he took a step back casually.
The old man frowned. The ring definitely felt dangerous and extraordinary. However, it didn’t make sense for him to forget such a ring. He wasn’t a fool. He had a good memory after all.
"It doesn’t make sense. How can I forget-" He turned around to look at Leo, one to feel a strange stinging sensation on the back of his neck.
"You..." The old man felt something being injected. Before he could react, his entire body was paralyzed, as he fell on the ground.
....
Meanwhile at the Lionel Family’s Banquet, there was a strange atmosphere.
The butler of the family looked like he had swallowed a fly, especially when he saw another team of the Galactic Union arrive.
The descendants of the family were also at a loss.
"You..." The Butler frowned.
"Yes, me? Why do you look like you have seen a ghost? Didn’t you see me the last time I came here?" The girl leading the Union’s Investigation Team asked. "Anyways, where is your family head? I have a few questions that I wanted to ask him, related to the case."
"Uhh... He already left with your senior? Didn’t your senior tell you?" The Butler asked.
"My Senior?" The girl tilted her head sideways, just as confused.
It was only when she heard the entire explanation from the butler that her expressions darkened.
