Chapter 1476: The Song of Frustration

Since the Scyther had already agreed to submit, Yuga decided to immediately take them home. He didn’t even bother putting the Scyther into Poké Balls and instead had them follow along directly—this way, he could save some Poké Balls.

There were nearly a hundred Scyther. If he were to use Poké Balls to store them all, it would cost a lot of money. Even if he used the cheapest red-and-white Poké Balls, it would still cost nearly fifty thousand credits.

So Yuga began the journey back, leading a mighty and vast group of Pokémon. With such a large group behind him, it took much longer to return than when he had come. Even after walking for most of the day, they still couldn’t make it back to the Island Ecological Park before nightfall.

Seeing that they wouldn’t make it back before dark, Yuga decided to stay one more night on the island and continue on their way the next morning. But who would have thought that in the middle of the night, a torrential downpour would descend upon the island.

This island floated in the middle of the ocean, tens of thousands of miles away from the mainland. Sudden changes in weather were very common.

Originally, Yuga had been sleeping in a temporary tent that night, but the sudden downpour forced him to move into the sandcastle built by Palossand.

Because of the heavy rain, Palossand found it easier to absorb water and sand, which allowed it to build the castle quickly. As a result, Yuga was able to move in just in time and didn’t get wet.

The Scyther had been resting outside. When the downpour started, Yuga initially wanted to put them into Poké Balls since they couldn’t enter Palossand’s castle anyway.

But unexpectedly, the group of Scyther swiftly gathered wide plant leaves and branches, building one makeshift tent after another, then crawled inside to take shelter from the rain. Their movements were very practiced.

Clearly, this wasn’t the first time they had encountered such a situation, and they already had their own coping strategies.

The island’s climate was hot and humid, so many of the plants grew leaves that were extremely wide—some even larger than Yuga himself—which made them ideal for constructing tents.

Having been startled awake by the sudden midnight storm, Yuga couldn’t fall back asleep. So he took out a flashlight and stood by the second-floor window of the sandcastle, silently watching the pouring rain outside.

In addition to the rain, the island was also being battered by strong winds. Large trees outside swayed violently in the storm, as if they could be uprooted at any moment.

Besides that, Yuga could faintly hear the sound of ocean waves.

Their resting area wasn’t far from the island’s coast. Likely due to the storm, the sound of waves crashing against the shore could be vaguely heard in the distance.

By midnight, the rain had become even heavier. It was as if the river in the sky had sprung a leak. The Scyther’s tents were no longer holding up—one by one, the leaves covering their tops were blown away by the strong wind. Helplessly, Yuga had to store them all in Poké Balls.

So much for the money-saving plan!

Since he had to go outside to collect the Scyther, by the time Yuga returned to the castle, he was already soaked to the bone—completely drenched like a waterlogged chicken.

Fortunately, he had previously stored a lot of clothing in his system backpack, so he wasn’t worried about having no clothes to change into. The only regret was that he couldn’t take a nice hot shower.

The wind howled through the night, and the rain poured down just as long. Affected by the sounds of the storm, Yuga didn’t sleep at all that night.

During the night, likely attracted by the beam of light from Yuga’s flashlight, two Pidgey and one Spearow flew into Palossand’s castle, looking to take shelter from the rain.

But Palossand absorbs the life energy of living creatures inside its body. For their safety, Yuga had no choice but to escort them back out.

The rain outside was so heavy that Yuga worried the Pidgey and Spearow wouldn’t survive the storm. So he arranged for them to rest on the castle’s balcony. As long as they weren’t inside the castle itself, their lives wouldn’t be in danger.

Yuga even took out two basins he had stored in his system backpack and had Palossand place them upside-down on the balcony. Then Palossand used its body to hold them in place, allowing the Pidgey and Spearow to take shelter from the rain beneath them.

At dawn, the torrential rain finally stopped. The island, which had been battered by the storm all night, suddenly fell quiet. The newly rising sun bathed the wet island in golden light.

Yuga sat leisurely at the edge of the balcony, eating breakfast. The Pidgey and Spearow poked their heads out from under the basins, staring at him eagerly. Helplessly, he tore off a piece of bread and shared it with them.

After finishing his breakfast, Yuga stepped out of the castle and onto the second-floor balcony. He stretched and breathed in the fresh air after the rain.

The Pidgey and Spearow, now full and content, took to the air to bid him farewell, expressing their gratitude for the shelter they received last night and the food they received this morning.

Yuga waved goodbye to them as well and planned to put Palossand away soon and leave. However, at that moment, he suddenly heard a faint, indistinct singing coming from the distance.

"Palossand, do you hear someone singing?" Yuga looked down and asked.

Palossand stayed quiet for several seconds before giving a definite answer—yes, there really was singing coming from afar. And the voice was very pleasant, ethereal and distant, though it carried a hint of sorrow.

It was probably still some distance away. Yuga could only vaguely hear the melody and couldn’t quite make out the meaning of the song, so he decided to go take a look.

He quickly packed up the things in the castle and stored Palossand in the Shadow Space. Then he summoned Dragonite, mounted it, and chased in the direction of the faint singing.

The voice seemed to be coming from the seaside.

With Dragonite’s speed, it took Yuga only a few minutes to reach the coastline.

After a whole night of heavy rain, the shore was littered with seaweed, shells, and similar debris. There were also many more Pokémon like Kingler and Shellder around the beach and rocky outcrops.

Yuga landed on the beach riding Dragonite, startling two Kingler that were fighting over food, causing them to scurry into the water. At the same time, the singing grew clearer and clearer.

The meaning of the song wasn’t clear—it seemed to be some sort of instinctive vocalization meant to convey a message—but Yuga could indeed feel the sorrow, anxiety, and fear embedded in the melody.

Yuga walked along the beach, heading toward the direction of the sound. At the far end, there was a cluster of strangely shaped rocks. On one of the large reef boulders, a blue-and-white Pokémon was singing toward the boundless sea.

Rather than singing, it was more like a mournful wail.

...

[ Primarina ]

...

Yuga hadn’t expected that the one singing was a Primarina. This island was located within the Kanto region—logically, Primarina shouldn’t even appear here.

Yuga had no intention of hiding, so Primarina quickly noticed him. Almost without a moment of hesitation, she dove headfirst into the sea.

Yuga didn’t stop her. He walked up to the reef to investigate and discovered that Primarina hadn’t fled. Instead, she was floating on the surface of the water, belly-up, her face contorted in pain.

When she saw Yuga approaching, Primarina attempted to dive deeper into the water. But the moment she moved her tail, she let out a painful gasp, and the surrounding seawater began to turn red with blood.

Only then did Yuga notice that there was a hand-length wound on Primarina’s tail. The wound was torn open and appeared to be infected.

"Are you okay?"

Yuga quickly jumped into the sea and carried Primarina out of the water and onto the reef. Initially, Primarina wanted to struggle, but she was extremely weak at the moment. On top of that, having been singing for a long time had exhausted a large amount of her strength, so she couldn’t break free from Yuga’s embrace.

"You’re injured. Let me treat your wound," Yuga said.

As he spoke, Yuga began cleaning Primarina’s wound. Primarina no longer had the strength to resist. Seeing that Yuga truly didn’t seem to have any ill intentions, she lay completely still and allowed Yuga to move about her large tail.

As a Trainer who often traveled, Yuga had stored a large quantity of commonly used medicine in his system space.

First, he used clean water to wash Primarina’s wound. Then he used a knife to cut away the rotten and infected parts of the injury. After that, he applied the medicine to it.

During the process, Primarina gasped from the pain, but she endured it and didn’t move.

After the wound was treated, Yuga used his healing ability to accelerate its recovery. However, the wound on Primarina’s tail wasn’t fresh—it had clearly been there for some time—so a full recovery couldn’t happen immediately.

At this point, Primarina was completely exhausted, lying motionless on the reef. Yuga took out a Pokeblock and placed it near her mouth.

"Here, eat a little something to replenish your strength."

Primarina obediently swallowed the Pokeblock, and after a while, she felt much more relaxed and lighter in her body.

Seeing that Primarina was alright, Yuga began to think about how to coax her to come home with him. So he asked, "Why are you here all alone, and how did you end up so badly injured?"

Yuga’s earlier actions had already helped Primarina lower her guard, so she told him what had happened to her.

It turned out that Primarina had gotten separated from her own kind. Earlier, her singing had been a signal meant to call out to her kin.

Primarina and her kin had originally been in the middle of a migration.

Due to the ocean currents, the Primarina and her kin would migrate from one location to another every so often to live.

But not long ago, while migrating, the ocean current they were following suddenly went haywire for some unknown reason. In the chaos, Primarina became disoriented and got separated from the others. To make matters worse, she crashed into a giant rock on the seafloor and suffered a serious injury to her tail.

In her attempt to find her kin, Primarina ignored her injury, which led to the wound continually worsening. As if that weren’t enough, things went from bad to worse when she encountered a tornado and was swept into this unknown sea area.

Last night’s torrential rain caused massive waves on the ocean. While unconscious from her injuries, Primarina was washed ashore by the waves, further aggravating her condition.

After waking up this morning, Primarina found herself too injured to move. So all she could do was lie on the reef and sing.

In truth, she also knew that even if she sang, her kin wouldn’t be able to hear her. But in her helpless and confused state, she had no idea what else she could do.

After hearing Primarina’s story, Yuga said with a worried look on his face, "Then it won’t be easy for you to find your kin, especially while you’re still injured!"

Primarina knew that too. That’s exactly why she felt so helpless and lost.

Seeing that Primarina didn’t respond and just stared blankly, Yuga took the opportunity to say, "Why don’t you come home with me first? Once you’ve recovered from your injuries, you can still go look for your kin. Staying here now won’t do you any good—it’ll only slow things down and make it harder for you to heal."

No matter what, getting her to come home first was the priority.

"I’ll bring you back once you’ve recovered," Yuga added.

Upon hearing this, Primarina finally showed a slight reaction. After hesitating for a long while, she slowly nodded.

And so, Yuga brought Primarina back to the Island Ecopark riding on Dragonite.

The place where Primarina had been staying wasn’t far from the Ecopark. Riding Dragonite, it only took Yuga a little more than three hours to get home. Even if he really had to bring Primarina back later, it wouldn’t take much time at all.

As soon as Yuga arrived at the Ecopark, he saw Doudou running over in a hurry. Since Yuga hadn’t informed Doudou before leaving, Doudou had been extremely worried for the past two days.

Seeing Yuga return safely, Doudou breathed a sigh of relief but was also a bit angry. Doudou stared at Yuga for a long time without saying a single word, then turned and walked away.

Coco, who also came over, gave Yuga a wink as if to say: Look, she’s mad!

Yuga quickly handed Primarina over to Coco and asked her to settle Primarina in the lake zone of the Ecopark, then went to chase after Doudou.

The lake water in the lake zone had healing properties, which would help Primarina recover from her injuries.

Doudou left the Ecopark and went home to start cleaning the house. Yuga followed and said with a cheerful smile, "Doudou, I’m hungry. Do you have anything to eat?"

"Audino~ Audino~"

No. If you want to eat, make it yourself.

Doudou didn’t even lift her head.

Yuga tried to flatter her: "My cooking’s nothing compared to yours. I want to eat something you made."

"Audino~"

What do you want to eat?

Doudou still didn’t look up.

Yuga kept buttering her up: "Anything made by you—I love it all."

"Audino~ Audino~"

Oh, too bad I’m very busy right now and don’t have time to cook.

Doudou didn’t give in and cook for Yuga as he had hoped, so Yuga had no choice but to cook for himself.

And not just that—for the next two days, Yuga didn’t get to eat a single meal cooked by Doudou. He either had to make food himself or go eat at the park’s restaurant.

This showed just how angry Doudou was that Yuga had gone missing for two days without saying a word!

As for those Scyther that Yuga brought back, he had already settled them in.

After applying innovation potion to them, the high-potential ones were assigned to the Insect Paradise, while the low-potential ones were sent to the New Ecopark.

There were already a number of Scyther in the Insect Paradise, and now with more joining, the Scyther group had begun to take shape. It was believed that before long, they would be ready for release.

Although this was something to be happy about, Doudou’s lukewarm attitude over the past two days made Yuga feel quite uncomfortable.

After inspecting the newly arrived Scyther at the Ecopark, Yuga walked out and ran into Ninetales leisurely strolling around. Irritated, he said, "You sure know how to enjoy life. Look at the mess you got me into. If it weren’t for you, would Doudou be this mad at me?"

Ninetales rolled her eyes and said, "When you were capturing Scyther, you didn’t say I got you into trouble then!"

"..."

Yuga was at a loss for words and couldn’t speak for quite a while.
