I'm The Only One With Cancer-Chapter 152: Finally Awakening a Talent!
Once crushed, the Talent Stone immediately turned into mesmerizing multicoloured particles that floated in the air.
However, along with such a beautiful sight, a system panel also presented itself before Zen.
[Ding!]
[Detected that the player has a suitable skill with immeasurable potential!]
’Immeasurable potential?’
Question marks appeared in Zen’s mind as he could not help but wonder what this notification meant.
Fortunately, it did not take long before another panel appeared before him.
[The user has the following choices:
Use the Talent Stone in order to awaken a random talent.
Note: The talent generated will at least be Legendary grade.
Use the talent stone to excavate more potential from the Immortal Cells.
Note: The talent generated will at least be Mythical grade.]
"..."
Zen’s eyes widened like saucers as he saw the two choices before him.
’What should I choose...’
There were many considerations that he was making based on these two choices.
’Although the second one ensures a talent of Mythical grade... It’s connected to my cancer again.’
Zen felt a mix of emotions as the memories he had long thought he had forgotten continued to resurface in his mind.
’I’m okay now, but seeing things associated with my cancer still doesn’t feel good....’
After all, such things still made him involuntarily remember the painful moments he had gone through in the past.
Therefore, if he were to have a choice, Zen would rather have something not connected to his main source of suffering.
’But on the other hand...’
Looking at the fact that the random talent awakened would at least be Legendary grade, as Arthur stated earlier, he felt that it was quite a waste.
After all, he had the chance to awaken a Mythical-grade talent, so why choose something less?
The dilemma he was feeling was obvious as both Arthur and Adara noticed the conflict he was feeling.
Just as the latter was about to approach him, the former stopped her with a shake of his head and whispered, "Although I don’t know what he’s facing, it’s better to let him decide for himself unless he asks us for help."
Finding Arthur’s words reasonable, Adara nodded with a sigh.
"Haha..."
At this moment, Zen suddenly let out a chuckle, much to the two’s concern.
’’Has he gone mad?’’
Arthur and Adara looked at each other and saw the worry in each other’s eyes.
Nevertheless, they decided to keep silent.
Oblivious to their thoughts, Zen facepalmed, ’What am I even thinking? Isn’t associating my cancer with good things better than just running away from it?’
That was right.
He had almost forgotten the kind of person he was.
Zen knew he was the type to endure with a smile—to stay hopeful through pain rather than deny it or flee from it.
As such, without further ado, he made his choice.
’I choose the second option.’
His voice rang out in his mind, followed by the system’s notification sound.
[Ding!]
[Detected that the user has chosen the second choice.]
[Now absorbing the Talent Stone.]
[Ding!]
[The Immortal Cells have detected a tremendous amount of energy]
[A tremendous amount of potential from the skill Immortal Cells is now undergoing awakening due to the massive influx of energy from a top-tier Mythical-grade consumable item.]
Hmmm—-
A soft humming sound resounded in the training grounds as the mana in the surroundings converged towards Zen suddenly.
Swoosh—- Swoosh—
All of a sudden, a tornado seemed to have formed with Zen at the center as everything in the training grounds flew wildly.
"W-What’s happening!?" Adara felt shock as the whistling of the wind intensified.
Arthur had a grave look in his eyes, "I don’t know, but we’d better contain the commotion."
After all, even though they had been living peacefully in the past few days, the two of them never forgot that they were in hiding.
Moreover, the forces they were hiding from happened to be the very owners of the territory they were living in.
This made it all the more dangerous for them to let even a bit of commotion out.
In an instant, the two got to work as they cast barrier magic and skills in order to strengthen the training ground’s barrier.
Adara and Arthur’s voices sounded amidst their efforts to restrain the mana fluctuations.
"Is this the Talent Stone’s effect!?"
"No! As far as I know, it’s not!"
"Then what the hell’s happening!?"
"I don’t know! The Talent Stone should have turned into something like a skill book that bestows talent on the user!"
"Huh? But the energy from the stone went inside his body!"
"That... I’m confused about that too!"
...
The two remaining officials of the Temple of Fire did their best to use everything they had.
Fortunately, it only took them a few minutes to set everything up and was able to prevent even a trace of sound from escaping the place.
At this moment, the training ground had multiple layers of barriers, which were made up of a variety of skills and magic spells.
"Phew, finally..." Adara let out a sigh while wiping the sweat off her forehead, but the moment she turned to Arthur, her gaze changed.
Currently, Arthur had a strange look in his eyes as he watched Zen’s situation without blinking.
He remembered earlier that the moment the Talent Stone was crushed, it was immediately absorbed inside his student’s body— something that should have never happened.
’The raw energy contained inside the Talent Stone isn’t something that can be forcefully absorbed unless one is at the Legendary Realm or at least has stats rivalling someone of that level...’
In that instant, Zen stood at the heart of the tornado, eyes closed, his body lifted slightly off the ground as the raging mana storm wrapped around him like a cocoon.
Time slowly passed by...
After a few minutes, the mana storm raging around Zen gradually subsided, but what replaced it was something that made Arthur and Adara’s hearts palpitate.
"This... is he really just awakening a talent? Even Mythical grade talents pale in comparison to this... it’s like—"
"He’s awakening some sort of divine power."
Hearing Arthur speak the words right out of her mouth, Adara could not help but whisper, "Just what kind of monster have you taken in..."
"I don’t know, but... It’s not a bad thing, is it?"
Along with his reply, Adara also noticed the faint hint of a smile on Arthur’s face.
Whooh—-
The tornado slowly began to subside, a quiet contrast to the violent suddenness with which it had first appeared.
The whistling winds slowly fell silent, their once razor-sharp gusts softening into a gentle, refreshing breeze.
Following right after was Zen’s figure slowly landing back on the ground as he slowly opened his eyes.
’What just happened?’
He wondered inwardly. The last thing he remembered was his vision going black the moment he chose the second option.
His gaze fell to his hands. He opened and closed them slowly, testing the strange sensation coursing through him.
It felt as though he could sense every minute detail within his body—the faint sway of his hair, the subtle contraction of his muscles, even the restless stir of something deeper, almost cellular.
Everything was too vivid, too clear, as if he had suddenly become aware of every fiber of his being.
""Deadman!""
Zen looked toward the voice and saw Adara and Arthur rushing toward him, worry etched across their faces.
Adara stepped forward and cupped his hand, "Are you oka—"
Woosh—
The instant their skin touched, a sharp wave of clarity surged through him—so abrupt, so overwhelming, that he instinctively jerked his hand back.
"What happened?" Arthur asked, his brows knitting together.
Zen blinked, still disoriented, "I—I don’t know either, Teacher..."
He glanced at Adara, guilt flickering in his eyes, "S-Sorry, Aunt Ada... I just..."
Adara, still surprised by his sudden reaction, steadied herself before speaking. "Check the talent you awakened first. It might be related."
"Understood..."
Zen immediately pulled up the information regarding his newly awakened talent.
Furthermore, he remembered something that his teacher had taught him back then.
In the next second, he willed it so that both Arthur and Adara could also see it, much to their surprise.
Arthur’s eyes widened, "You didn’t need to—"
"It’s fine, Teacher, Aunt Ada. I wouldn’t have awakened this if it weren’t for you two, anyway. Besides, this is the least I could do after everything that happened..."
Zen spoke with a smile, as it did not take long for him to guess the commotion he caused purely by seeing the mess that the training ground was currently in.
Knowing that their student would not back down, Arthur and Adara gazed at the system panel before them.
