I'm Crushing on Gorgeous Faces in Variety Shows!-Chapter 430: I Think We’ve Got This in the Bag
The two of them were chatting quite seriously, and for a rare moment, Jiang Lu felt interested in discussing professions with others, and his mood wasn’t bad.
They both squatted there, Mu Qiu even moved two steps to the side on purpose, speaking straightforwardly.
Cheng Zhirang was about to start writing, glanced at Mu Qiu and Jiang Lu, and quickly withdrew his gaze, signaling Qiu Shuang next to him to watch him write.
Two deaf people gathering together would probably find it impossible to communicate using spoken language—though Cheng Zhirang could still talk, they weren’t in the same group anyway.
At the start of the game, Shu Ran and Guan Yu had specifically advised him to trip up Qiu Shuang if possible.
If he was determined to only talk, Qiu Shuang wouldn’t be able to hear according to the rules, so other than the information on paper, she wouldn’t get any other hints. If Qiu Shuang accidentally spoke, she’d be breaking the rules and lose points.
But Cheng Zhirang didn’t plan to do that.
Even if he were to set a trap, the trap should be placed surprisingly. Constant talking would only raise Qiu Shuang’s alertness.
The first word he wrote was "guide."
His writing was powerful and smooth, showing it was a frequent exercise. The cameras all turned towards him, focused on his hand and the writing.
As he wrote, Cheng Zhirang also guided Qiu Shuang with gestures.
The photographers had to keep switching between close-ups and wide shots.
Qiu Shuang watched carefully, continuously comparing the information she got from him with the performance she had sneak-peeped from Guan Yu earlier.
Finally, she concluded that Cheng Zhirang hardly did any personal recreation.
At the end, Cheng Zhirang capped the pen and suddenly asked, "Got it? If not, I’ll explain again."
Suddenly gave a vibe of a middle school teacher.
Qiu Shuang wanted to say she’d understood, but Mu Qiu suddenly coughed heavily, quickly muttering to herself, "Don’t talk, don’t talk!"
So Qiu Shuang tightly shut her mouth.
Cheng Zhirang’s ploy failed.
Standing nearby, Guan Yu mumbled and rolled her eyes, and Shu Ran, as the nearest person who could speak, kindly translated, "Someone who doesn’t know might think Qiu Shuang is mute too."
Mu Qiu nonchalantly pretended to clean out her ears, saying, "We call this being rigorous."
Rigorous Qiu Shuang heard the instruction, remained alert the entire time, and compared notes silently without saying a word, directly engaging in sign language with Cheng Zhirang.
As widely known, when imperfect sign language meets someone not particularly fluent in it, communication barriers are bound to occur.
Cheng Zhirang and Qiu Shuang had a chaotic "exchange" for a bit and decided to fast-forward this section and end it directly.
Qiu Shuang had fully understood the content on the paper, was confident, and started her performance.
Her eyes showed surprise as she looked at the director, then at Guan Yu, changing from holding back laughter to having a hearty laugh. And since she could speak, this laugh was genuinely acted.
The hearty laughter echoed throughout the spacious hall, sounding as if she had encountered something genuinely hilarious and very real.
Mu Qiu had just finished chatting with Jiang Lu. Startled by this joyful laugh, she looked up in surprise.
"Qiu Shuang’s acting is pretty good, she’s putting in a lot of effort," Jiang Lu commented.
Mu Qiu glanced at him but didn’t respond.
This matter was unrelated to her, an outsider to the circle. Yet, from an audience’s perspective, Qiu Shuang’s acting was indeed good; she had felt this during the first episode of the show.
At least better than some roles in currently popular films and TV dramas.
Her not responding didn’t matter; Jiang Lu had no shortage of people to chat with. He turned to talk with Shu Ran, Wei Yi, and Li Yang next door.
Mu Qiu had already run over to Qiu Shuang, confidently gave her a thumbs up, "Very good!"
After praising, her finger was placed on her lips, signaling for him not to speak and to quietly listen to her performance.
"Super impressive, even though Guan Yu and her crew interrupted a bit in between, your performance was almost perfect!"
Seeing her thumbs-up gesture made her meaning clear, and Qiu Shuang smiled contentedly.
Finally understood why Cheng Zhirang liked Mu Qiu; perhaps it was her personal charm, giving unreserved praise, providing immense confidence and joy.
Even if inside they and others clearly knew the performance wasn’t as good as she said, who doesn’t enjoy being praised?
Li Yang also ran over here, Mu Qiu turned to him and shouted, "Leg! Leg!"
Li Yang immediately adopted a limping posture, finishing the last two steps by hopping on one foot.
"Although this question is a bit strange, I feel we’ve got this round!"
"Really?" Mu Qiu asked him, "What did you write? I didn’t see it just now."
Li Yang paused.
"...Actually, what’s written isn’t important; as long as it conveys joining, it’s fine. How’s that saying go again? Black cats and white cats, the ones that catch mice are good cats."
Mu Qiu nodded.
"I get it, definitely written something wrong."
"...I just followed Brother Huai’s realistic style. You can imagine everyone’s performances and describe it using a realistic style, that’s my content."
"Why do we have to be so complex, why not just pull out what you wrote and look? Didn’t you say you also drew a picture? The picture even got praised by Brother Jiang Lu?"
"No, no, no," Li Yang quickly waved his hand, "That’s just a little stick figure."
Mu Qiu seriously said, "We quite like stick figures."
"..."
Finally, that "work" ended up in Mu Qiu’s hands.
She raised her head, seemingly rolling her eyes, right hand constantly searching on the paper.
"I can’t see it, can you read it for me?"
Li Yang: "I suspect you’re putting me on."
"Young people should speak more politely. We’ve got a blind and a deaf here, you’re the only relatively fine one, who else will read if not you?"
She spoke with righteousness, and nearby Qiu Shuang was also playing deaf very well, leaving Li Yang speechless.
"Alright, alright, I’ll read."
He cleared his throat, reviewed his "masterpiece," then put down the paper, adding gestures to ease the embarrassment.
"Guide the director, then see, there’s Sister Guan Yu next, right? Point to her again, and then mimic her movements by laughing heartily, which has a difference; the first half is leaning back laughing, the second half is..."
"Stop."
Mu Qiu made a stop gesture.
"Very specific, learned Brother Huai’s skills perfectly."
Shi Yuhuai, repeatedly being cued, looked at them with a clear expression: Is there anything you need from me?
"Brother Huai is watching us," Qiu Shuang said.
Mu Qiu squinted her eyes, both hands continuously searching in the air, "Which direction is Brother Huai?"
...She’s acting quite convincingly.
Li Yang carefully lifted her sleeve, led her hand to point towards the right front, "I feel Brother Huai’s expression isn’t kind."
"It’s okay, his unfriendly expression is a good thing. None of us lost points in this round; it’s the last moment we can control before the director calls for a pause to ascertain the performance results."
