I'm Crushing on Gorgeous Faces in Variety Shows!-Chapter 251: With Such a Sweet Mouth, Did You Get Stung by a Hornet?
The betting turned into a team of four, with Shu Ran forcefully joining in.
In this episode, Shu Ran had already tasted the sweetness of this rogue behavior.
She had realized that on this show, the nation’s "fresh and pure" won’t survive; only by becoming a team can one be popular.
And being part of a team, it seems she will likely be assimilated by Guan Yu and Mu Qiu.
Now even the hottest stars are being assimilated, so it’s only a matter of time for her too.
Since a bet with three people became four, the betting rules needed a little change.
"For this round, the one who guesses wrong has to send the remaining people, including the last to arrive, a big snack gift package. How about it?"
"No problem," Shu Ran was the first to agree.
Wearing an expensive qipao, she waved a hand fan and said the words cheerfully, with an inexplicable kind of "these are small matters" aristocratic disdain.
The other two also agreed, and Mu Qiu quickly scanned their expressions and said, "Then I’ll still guess Sister Guan Yu."
Shu Ran: "I guess Li Yang."
Cheng Zhirang: "Guan Yu."
Shi Yuhuai: "Li Yang."
It’s a tie, two guesses each—if they win, two win together; if they lose, two lose together.
Now they just had to wait for the fifth person.
The four of them sat in a row, sitting upright and looking at the door. Mu Qiu was eating purple sweet potato balls, silently cheering for Guan Yu in his heart.
However, bad luck struck twice, and the fifth to arrive was Li Yang.
With a chaotic mishmash of wigs, tight pants, and a gold chain, his whole body glowed with a sacred light.
He burst through the door from outside, shining so brightly that the photographer couldn’t help but squint.
Mu Qiu shielded his eyes and let out a disappointed howl, "Why is it you?!"
Just like Shu Ran before, Li Yang was startled by the four people staring right at him as he entered the door, plastering his back against the door like a gecko.
"......What are you doing? A tribunal?"
Such an unoriginal opening line.
"That’s not right, how did you guys get here so fast?! Am I slow?!"
An even more unoriginal follow-up.
Mu Qiu glared at him, his eyes filled with a mixture of disappointment and frustration.
Unlike Mu Qiu, who was disappointed, Shu Ran and Shi Yuhuai were thrilled, standing up like they had backed a winning horse, loudly announcing their victory to Mu Qiu.
"I won the bet! You guys lost!!!"
Mu Qiu waved his hand weakly, "Say no more, my heart is already aching."
As they were celebrating their victory and licking their wounds, no one paid the fifth person the attention he deserved.
Li Yang scooted over and plopped down at the far end, "What were you doing? How did you move so fast? I thought I was pretty quick."
"What you think is your own thought; I thought I could win as well."
"So what happened? Who came first?"
"Brother Huai was first, Brother Cheng second."
"Damn," Li Yang muttered in frustration, "so I sprinted and still came last."
"Don’t worry, there’s still Sister Guan Yu," Mu Qiu shared the feeling of defeat.
Li Yang: "......Yeah! There’s still Sister Guan Yu! Hahaha, she’s last!"
Mu Qiu gazed at him speechlessly.
See, being second to last, once there’s someone dead last, there’s no sadness left.
The gloom on Li Yang’s face vanished instantly as he grabbed a box of yogurt next to Mu Qiu, punctured a hole, and drank with loud contentment.
"So what were you guys actually betting on, who would be last?"
"Who would be fifth," Shu Ran tilted her legs elegantly, hinting victory, "Mu Qiu and Brother Cheng lost the bet."
"Serves you right," he took a big swig of yogurt towards Mu Qiu, "that’s what you get for not choosing me. Compared to Sister Guan Yu, wasn’t I a sure win?"
Mu Qiu: "Isn’t gambling typically driven by a bit of contrarian spirit?"
"You call this gambling? What was your stake?"
"A big snack gift package."
"......How does this even count as gambling?"
"I have to buy a big snack gift package for everyone, Brother Cheng too," Mu Qiu rested his chin in his hand, "so you don’t want it?"
"Really? So not only am I not last, but I also get two big snack gift packages? Can I be this happy?"
"I have a strong urge to take that happiness away."
Li Yang, momentarily deaf to his sarcasm, happily exclaimed, "Mu Qiu, you’re so nice!"
"Your words are sweet, were you stung by a bee?"
"......" Mu Qiu’s comeback game was on a ten out of ten.
Only Guan Yu was still missing.
Mu Qiu had already planned how to scold her for her lack of competitiveness and comfort her as well.
But they waited and waited, almost until half-past six, yet no one returned.
Li Yang finished all her purple sweet potato balls, getting chased by her for two laps. Shu Ran and Shi Yuhuai began ordering snack gift packages, with Cheng Zhirang listening and noting them down occasionally.
The atmosphere was great, only missing one happy presence.
A few minutes later, Guan Yu finally returned.
Her pink Sailor Moon petal dress was wrinkled, with suspicious red stains, the bow at the collar had come off, and her eyes were red and slightly puffy.
Everyone was startled.
She walked in, supporting herself against the wall, hesitating when she saw them: "What are you guys doing, waiting just for me?"
Cheng Zhirang calmly handed a couple of tissues to Mu Qiu, who took them and ran forward.
"Not really, Sister Guan Yu, was your task that dangerous? Which Kurlo Card did you subdue?"
Guan Yu rolled her eyes at her, took the tissues to wipe her tears, adjusted her hair, and said, "It’s a long story, I went to watch a play."
"What play?"
"The unfilial daughter causing her mother’s death to become a wealthy lady," Guan Yu casually found a spot to sit with a deep sigh, "Who was so ’considerate’ to give me such a profound tragedy, and more importantly, starring Cheng Huixue."
Cheng Zhirang asked her, "Was the performance good?"
"Exceptional," Guan Yu spread her hands, "I always thought this was a comedy show, but when Cheng Huixue fell into my arms and started delivering her last words, I was totally stunned."
Recalling the play, when Cheng Huixue’s aged hands clutched her clothes while saying she had left her a household and arranged a marriage partner for her, she couldn’t help but burst into tears, despite knowing it was just acting.
"That’s probably the power of veteran artists, it’s too strong. I sat there with the crew wiping tears for ten minutes."
Couldn’t stop crying, immersed in the scene, constantly looking around as if hoping to find an ambulance.
She took a deep breath, speaking to the camera, "That segment HAS to make it to the final cut; seriously, it was outstanding."
The crew member behind the camera gave an OK sign.
Li Yang peeked out and said, "Sister Guan Yu, stop crying, you’re the last."
Guan Yu: "......"
This damn kid! Always mentioning the truths people wish to avoid!
On the verge of uncontrollable rage, wanting to strangle this unruly brat, Li Yang added another comment.
"But it’s okay, Mu Qiu lost the bet and has to buy us each a big snack gift package."
Guan Yu turned back in surprise, "Really?!"
Mu Qiu: That initial concern was misplaced.
