Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 65: Addicted to Being a Stand-in
She was afraid of seeing certain key information, and just as afraid that the bodyguards would see it. ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐๐๐ป๐ผ๐ฏ๐๐.๐๐ผ๐บ
Fortunately, the bodyguards were well-trained and didnโt pay too much attention to the details.
Watching the phone get unlinked, Sharon Quincy breathed a sigh of relief.
All of this information was sent to her, not to Linden Nathan.
As long as Linden Nathan didnโt find out, she would be fine.
Just then, her phone suddenly rang, making Sharon Quincy jump.
The caller ID showed it was Linden Nathan.
Sharon Quincy answered the call with a trembling hand.
"Hello, Mr. Nathan..."
"How did it go? Have you seen Selina?" Linden Nathanโs voice was probing and tentative.
"No... Mr. Nathan, you said someone would approach me to confirm her identity, but no one did. Is it possible something went wrong?" Sharon Quincy paused. "Do you think Selina could still be angry with you?"
Linden Nathan was silent for a long moment.
"I didnโt allow her to leave the Nathan family because I didnโt want her to have to fend for herself out there. The outside world is dangerous. I kept her locked up for a few years; itโs only right that she hates me."
โIt wasnโt just hate. In the end, it had become fear.โ
โFortunately, my daughter met that young man later on, and he helped Selina heal so much.โ
โA pity...โ
"Perhaps Selina still doesnโt want to come back. In that case, we shouldnโt force it. Until she decides to return, you will continue to attend events for her in this capacity."
Linden Nathanโs voice was tinged with sadness.
โHis Selina hadnโt appeared before him in a very long time.โ
But now, as time went on, someone from the Nathan family had to appear in public.
Sharon Quincy was obedient, ambitious, and perceptive. Of all the people he sponsored, she was the very definition of adaptable.
When Sharon Quincy learned what he needed, she had volunteered to be Selinaโs stand-in.
Linden Nathan hadnโt refused.
After all, if his daughterโs identity were exposed, it would invite danger.
"If you need anything, just tell Butler Shaw."
Sharon Quincyโs eyes lit up.
Butler Shaw was the Nathan familyโs butler and Linden Nathanโs assistant.
"I can ask for anything?" Sharon Quincy asked cautiously.
In the past, it was always Butler Shaw who had given her money for school expenses, so she was quite familiar with him.
"Of course, anything. Iโve already spoken with Butler Shaw. For the time being, both money and the Nathan familyโs connections are at your disposal."
Hearing this, Sharon Quincyโs heart began to hammer in her chest.
โMoney and connections, all at my disposal?โ
โI was worried that after tonightโs banquet, I wouldnโt be able to appear in public again. I never expected Linden Nathan would actually let me continue as Selina Nathanโs stand-in.โ
โI used to know that Selina Nathan and I were worlds apart. I never imagined Iโd get to be the young lady of the Nathan family, even just for a day.โ
Thinking of all the people at the banquet who had tried so hard to curry favor with her, Sharon Quincyโs lips curved into a small smile.
โOnce they learned her identity, almost everyone at the banquet had been trying to find a way to get close to her.โ
โSome of the most promising young men in Korsyth were also scheming for ways to make a good impression on her.โ
โTo be honest, she was falling in love with this feeling.โ
โBeing the young lady of the Nathan family was truly an intoxicating kind of happiness.โ
"If Selina contacts you, remember to persuade her... ask her to come home and see me..."
Linden Nathanโs voice was heavy with a sigh.
Sharon Quincy dutifully comforted him. "Mr. Nathan, please donโt be sad. If I see Miss Selina, I will definitely do my best to persuade her. Rest assured, as soon as my work here is done, Iโll come back to see you immediately."
"Youโre so sensible..." Linden Nathanโs spirits lifted at her words. "Of all the people Iโve sponsored, youโre the most considerate. I can rest easy leaving this matter to you."
"Donโt you worry, Mr. Nathan. I will be sure to handle the task youโve given me."
After hanging up, Sharon Quincy immediately sent a message to Butler Shaw: "Butler Shaw, I need you to arrange for more bodyguards. I want to... teach someone a lesson."
The Nathan familyโs bodyguards were all masters of unique skills. The ones she brought with her today, for example, were expert hackers.
โTo get more information, Iโll need more help.โ
โEspecially that Cecilia Nathan...โ
โAt the banquet today, only Cecilia Nathan had looked at her with such disdain and suspicion.โ
That look made her deeply uncomfortable.
โShe was the type to seek revenge for the smallest slight. Since Cecilia Nathan had treated her that way, she had to teach her a lesson in return.โ
โShe would make Cecilia Nathan understand the consequences of crossing her.โ
ใMeanwhileใ Cecilia Nathan was still at the banquet, waiting for Damian Hawthorneโs maternal grandfather to appear.
Damian Hawthorneโs grandfather had always been kind to her. This time, she just wanted to give him his birthday gift and then leave.
Cecilia Nathan sat on a sofa, took a small sip from the glass of red wine in her hand.
The alcohol made her pleasantly warm, and Cecilia Nathan narrowed her eyes slightly.
Just then, a shadow fell over her.
"Miss Cecilia Nathan." A man with a rather sinister air sat down beside her.
The man wore a pink suit, his hair slicked back and unpleasantly shiny with grease.
His appraising gaze was fixed on Cecilia Nathan, not wavering for a moment.
Cecilia Nathan felt uncomfortable and shifted away from him.
The man sneered. "Whatโs with the act? Itโs just money youโre after, isnโt it?"
Cecilia Nathan frowned, her lips pressed into a thin line, and remained silent.
"You chased Damian Hawthorne for so long and never got him, then you were with Hugo Grant not long after. I thought you were so devoted, but it turns out youโre just another woman after money."
The manโs words were filled with sarcasm and insults directed at Cecilia Nathan.
Cecilia Nathan set down her wine glass, not planning to engage with him. Just then, the man reached out to grab her, but Cecilia reacted instantly and shook his hand off.
The manโs hand grasped at empty air.
"Sir, I suggest you show some self-respect." Cecilia Nathanโs voice was cold.
โThere were all sorts of people at these banquets, but in the past, she had always been trailing after Damian Hawthorne, so few men had dared to approach her.โ
โBut now, free from the "Damian Hawthorneโs lapdog" halo, she hadnโt expected this kind of trash would be waiting for her.โ
Having failed to grab Cecilia Nathan, the man grew angry from the humiliation. "Do you have any idea who I am? Iโm Damian Hawthorneโs cousin! Weโre related."
"Without Damian Hawthorne to protect you, if you get on my bad side... believe it or not, I can make it impossible for you to get by in Korsyth."
Korsyth was a bustling international metropolis; after Aethelgard, it was the most prosperous city in the country.
All of Korsyth was dominated by an intricate, tightly-woven network of business and political powers.
Cecilia Nathan knew he wasnโt lying.
โNow that she was no longer Damian Hawthorneโs lapdog, anyone with power and influence could make it impossible for her to survive in Korsyth.โ
โShe had to admit itโthe oppression of social class was just that blatant.โ
โThe saying "money makes the world go โround" wasnโt an exaggeration, but a fact.โ
"Who did you say you were going to run out of Korsyth?"
Suddenly, a mocking voice cut in.
Damian Hawthorne approached them, one hand in his pocket, a cigarette dangling from his lips.
Seeing Damian Hawthorne, the man immediately put on a sycophantic smile. "Cousin."
"Who are you?" Damian Hawthorne didnโt give him an ounce of respect. "I wasnโt aware I had a cousin."
"My motherโs older sisterโs younger sister is your motherโs younger sisterโs older sister," the man said, perfectly composed. "Iโm older than you, so that makes me your cousin."
"Pfft." Damian Hawthorneโs lips curled into a mocking sneer. "Shameless."
The manโs face paled slightly, but he quickly schooled his expression and asked with a smile, "By the way, you and Miss Cecilia Nathan arenโt together anymore, are you?"
Damian Hawthorneโs eyes darkened. He threw a quick glance at Cecilia Nathan but said nothing.
Silence meant tacit agreement.
The man asked excitedly, "Since you two have nothing to do with each other, then I can keep Cecilia as my mistress, right?"
"What did you say?" Damian Hawthorneโs eyes narrowed dangerously.
"I said, since you two have broken up now, does that mean I can keep her?"
