Chapter 100: Chapter 100: I Won’t Let Her Suffer

"Why do you ask?" Linden Nathan was briefly stunned, but he quickly concealed it with a neutral expression.

"Cecilia Nathan’s surname is Nathan, and so is yours. Your goddaughter didn’t kidnap anyone else; she specifically targeted Cecilia. Mr. Nathan, is this all really a coincidence?" A cunning, barely-there smile played on Damian Hawthorne’s lips. "You place great importance on your biological daughter and have protected her well. Could it be that you gave her a different identity right from the start?"

"Hahaha, Mr. Hawthorne, you have quite an imagination." Linden Nathan was a seasoned veteran of the business world; although he was shocked to his core, he didn’t let a hint of it show on his face.

’He never thought Damian Hawthorne would figure out even this much.’

’As much as he wanted to tell Damian Hawthorne about Cecilia’s identity, he wouldn’t dare say a thing without her permission.’

"If Cecilia Nathan is indeed Selina Nathan, then I’d like to ask, what has she been after, staying by my side for so long?" Damian Hawthorne’s lips curled into a mocking sneer. "With Miss Nathan’s status, she could have men lining up one after another with just a crook of her finger. If she had revealed her identity, forget me—even my own mother would have threatened to kill herself to make me marry her."

But Cecilia hadn’t done that.

She would rather jump off a building to force him to let her stay by his side than expose her identity.

’So, does she really like me?’

"Mr. Hawthorne, I think you must be mistaken. I protect my biological daughter very well. This Cecilia Nathan you speak of—she is not my daughter."

Seeing that Damian Hawthorne was close to guessing the truth, Linden Nathan pressed his lips together, his expression turning serious.

’Cecilia has gone to such lengths precisely because she doesn’t want her identity revealed.’

’It would be one thing if Damian Hawthorne figured it out, but *I* can’t be the one to give it away.’

"I’ve heard a few things about you and that Cecilia Nathan, but my daughter... I would never let her suffer hardship by your side. Mr. Hawthorne, you’ve guessed wrong."

The word "hardship" struck Damian Hawthorne’s heart like a heavy hammer.

’So, all this time Cecilia was by my side, everyone thought she was suffering.’

’That’s right. In everyone else’s eyes, she was a suck-up. How could that not be considered hardship?’

"You’re right, Mr. Nathan. I was mistaken." Damian Hawthorne lowered his gaze, concealing the profound look in his eyes.

Just then, the doorbell rang. Damian Hawthorne looked up, glancing toward the door.

Linden Nathan’s heart, however, skipped a beat.

’It can’t be Cecilia, can it?’

"Are you expecting another guest, Mr. Nathan?" Damian Hawthorne raised an eyebrow, a thoughtful look on his face.

"A guest..." Linden Nathan chuckled and waved his hand. "No, but there is someone else coming today."

’Linden Nathan was filled with regret. If he’d known Cecilia was coming, he would have turned Damian Hawthorne away.’

’The thought of seeing Cecilia in such an awkward situation made Linden Nathan feel unavoidably guilty.’

Before Damian Hawthorne could get up, Linden Nathan quickly stood and headed for the door. "I’ll get it, I’ll get it."

’If Cecilia sees Damian Hawthorne here, I’m going to be in for it.’

Linden Nathan opened the door, and his brow furrowed the moment he saw the person outside. "What are you doing here?"

"Godfather..." Sharon Quincy beamed sweetly, peeking into the room. "Oh, by the way, Godfather, has Damian Hawthorne arrived yet?"

Sharon Quincy knew Linden Nathan’s taste in hotels and went straight to the presidential suite.

Luckily, there were only two presidential suites here, so it was easy to find.

Seeing Sharon Quincy, Linden Nathan’s previous mood evaporated.

Especially after learning she had kidnapped Cecilia, he was forced to re-evaluate Sharon Quincy entirely.

Seeing Linden Nathan staring at her with a grim, silent expression, Sharon Quincy’s heart sank.

"What’s wrong, Godfather...?" Sharon Quincy was naturally panicking inside.

She had no idea how long Damian Hawthorne had been there or what he had said.

Linden Nathan’s current attitude was also a far cry from how he’d been before.

Damian Hawthorne saw Sharon Quincy’s head bobbing at the doorway, lowered his eyes in thought, and decided it was better not to look.

Linden Nathan had no intention of letting Sharon Quincy in either.

"Sharon, I’m a bit busy right now. Why don’t you go downstairs for a while? Once I’m done here, we can have a proper chat."

Seeing that Linden Nathan was trying to send her away, Sharon Quincy wasn’t having it. She gave him a sweet smile. "Godfather, since Damian Hawthorne is already here, why don’t I come in and join the conversation? We’re about to get married, after all. We’re all family, so there’s no need for secrets. We can talk about anything openly."

After speaking, Sharon Quincy looked at Damian Hawthorne with an aggrieved expression, her palms tightening into fists.

’Damian Hawthorne clearly saw me but isn’t coming to my rescue. Does he really not want to marry into the Nathan Family anymore?’

Recalling Damian Hawthorne’s words—"If you’re not Selina Nathan, then we’re canceling the engagement"—made Sharon Quincy feel incredibly frustrated.

’Could it be that Damian Hawthorne really wants to be with Selina Nathan?’

’Even though she’d never met Selina Nathan, it was a no-brainer that Linden Nathan would never let his daughter marry someone from Korsyth.’

"Since you insist... very well. There are some things we do need to discuss properly." Seeing she was dead set on coming in, Linden Nathan decided to stop beating around the bush.

’To think that the person I had sponsored for so long was actually an ungrateful wretch—I couldn’t, or rather, wouldn’t believe it.’

’I’ve been through so much, yet I still misjudged someone this badly.’

’I had thought I’d gained a sweet, comforting daughter, but she turned out to be a thorny, ungrateful burden.’

When Sharon Quincy saw Damian Hawthorne sitting inside, her eyelid twitched, but she quickly put on a bashful expression. "Damian, you left so quickly. You said you were coming to visit my godfather, but you can’t just leave me behind."

After saying this, she brazenly sat down next to Damian Hawthorne.

Damian Hawthorne frowned and half-rose from his seat. "Mr. Nathan, I’ve said and asked all that I needed to. Those rumors you heard about me and your goddaughter are all false."

"I, Damian Hawthorne, don’t care about much, but the one thing I cannot tolerate is deception."

’I can’t believe he has the nerve to say that!’

Sharon Quincy gritted her teeth, steeled her resolve, and accused him with reddened eyes, "Damian Hawthorne, don’t you regret this. You were the one who said you wanted to marry into the family. How can you betray me like this?"

After she spoke, Sharon Quincy blinked, and tears began to fall one by one.

She raised a hand to her lower abdomen, her voice choked with emotion. "I’m... In any case, Damian Hawthorne, you can’t do this to me."

Seeing her clutch her abdomen, Linden Nathan’s face instantly turned cold.

He glared coldly at Damian Hawthorne. "Mr. Hawthorne, are you sure you won’t marry Sharon?"

’Just a moment ago, I almost believed Damian Hawthorne.’

’If Sharon is pregnant, then there’s no hope for Damian and Cecilia.’

’I would never accept such a fickle man as my son-in-law.’

Although Sharon Quincy’s gesture was directed at Linden Nathan, from where Damian Hawthorne was sitting, he could still see the deeper meaning behind her action.

’Such a clumsy cover-up.’

Damian Hawthorne’s face was as dark as charcoal.

"Miss Quincy, you’re not trying to say you’re pregnant with my child, are you?"
