Ice Age Apocalypse: I Hoard Billions of Supplies-Chapter 1209: The Underground World
Chapter 1209: The Underground World
Liang Yue grasped the retrieved Dragon's Roar, then with one slash, she severed Cheng Lanlan's head.
It seemed that after spending a long time with Zhang Yi, her behavioral habits had also been greatly influenced by him. When facing enemies, she had become increasingly cautious.
Only after confirming that Cheng Lanlan was completely dead did she take a deep breath. The combat suit's Smart System automatically repaired the breach and injected her with hemostatic agents and plasma.
Liang Yue picked up her severed arm, her body trembling uncontrollably from the excitement she felt between life and death.
Cheng Lanlan had cut off all communication between this place and the outside world to kill her silently, so now, she could slowly recover from her injuries, absorb Cheng Lanlan's origin, and then leave.
After all, she just needed to follow Cheng Lanlan's script and blame everything on the Ground Centipede.
...
On the other side.
Totoro forcefully dug open the volcano crater, then carved out a massive tunnel leading deep into the earth.
Only then did Zhang Yi realize that its large white paws weren't just for show. Although a bit clumsy in combat, when it came to digging, it was even more ferocious than an excavator!
The four of them followed the path it had opened, chasing deep underground.
Totoro's rear end faced the four of them, its entire body seemingly brimming with inexhaustible energy.
Halfway down, Li Changgong curiously asked Zhang Yi, "Chaos, where did you get this pet? This guy is really good at digging. It would be so convenient for laying foundations in construction projects later."
This statement naturally carried a hint of teasing.
Zhang Yi replied nonchalantly, "I just found it. After the apocalypse, mutated creatures come in all sorts of bizarre forms. What type isn't there?"
The others didn't ask further, closely following Totoro's direction.
After about twenty minutes or so, an unusual glimmer of light suddenly appeared before everyone's eyes.
"Crash!"
The thick rock layer ahead was chiseled open by Totoro, revealing a huge opening.
Totoro actually plummeted straight down.
Zhang Yi, quick-eyed and swift-handed, rushed over and grabbed a fold of skin on its neck. All four of them passed through the opening and arrived here.
When Zhang Yi saw what lay before him, he froze in place, his eyes wide, his mind going completely blank.
Because he saw an even more vast world.
He was suspended in mid-air, still thousands of meters above the ground. The surrounding space was incredibly vast, with no end in sight.
Although underground, it wasn't dark. Instead, the rock layer above seemed to be made of some special mineral, suffused with a misty, blue haze that stretched from left to right for who knew how many kilometers.
It was breathtakingly beautiful. In a daze, one could forget this was underground; it felt more like the brilliant aurora-lit clear skies of the Arctic.
Zhang Yi originally thought he had entered an underground cave, perhaps another hiding den of the Ground Centipede clan.
But everything before his eyes clearly exceeded everyone's imagination.
The massive space was filled with a stream of purple light. Looking down, the entire ground below was covered in a black-purple crystal.
It wasn't some naturally formed ore, but a huge array composed of regular polyhedral black-purple crystals!
On the array formed by the black-purple crystals, streaks of purple light, like electric currents, continuously flowed along fixed grooves.
It resembled some kind of mysterious formation.
Even from thousands of meters high, one would feel deeply awed by the sheer size of this black-purple array.
A rough estimate suggested the ground area covered by this array was probably millions of square meters!
Zhang Yi was dumbfounded. Something this massive was clearly not naturally formed.
Nor could it possibly be something created by mutated creatures.
Because in the less than two short years since the apocalypse, it was impossible for any mutated creature to have developed such a high level of civilization.
Not just Zhang Yi, the others were also stunned, staring blankly at everything beneath their feet.
"A circuit board?"
Lu Keran suddenly uttered these words.
And these very words enlightened Zhang Yi.
He finally understood what that abrupt feeling was.
This huge, formation-like thing beneath their feet looked exactly like a circuit board.
It's just he had never seen a circuit board this massive.
And what did all this have to do with the Ground Centipede swarm?
Zhang Yi's mind was still reeling when the Totoro he was holding suddenly wriggled excitedly, its furry large paw pointing far into the distance, to the left front.
Zhang Yi's gaze immediately followed. The Smart System magnified the objects in that direction.
Only then did Zhang Yi see that at the very center of this huge array composed of black-purple crystals stood a massive black-purple pyramid!
Those streaks of purple light arcs, like electric currents, converged from all directions, then surged towards the apex of the pyramid.
Finally, they gathered onto a square platform at the pyramid's peak.
Zhang Yi's sharp eyes noticed there was something else on the pyramid.
"Magnify further!"
He shouted.
The Smart System continued to magnify everything before him. He was astonished to discover that at the pyramid's peak, where the purple light arcs converged, six purple diamond-shaped crystals were embedded.
"What exactly is this? Where am I?"
Zhang Yi was utterly bewildered. Such a bizarre and fantastical scene was beyond his imagination.
Yang Xinxin, Lu Keran, and the others were also staring, dumbstruck.
"Is this a human-made underground structure, or does a more powerful civilization exist beneath the earth?"
Lu Keran murmured to himself.
The massive black-purple array before them, from what they could see now, seemed difficult for even human technological power to accomplish.
While everyone was still looking utterly confused, Zong Yue's voice suddenly rang in their ears.
"Look quickly, the King Worm is over there! It's trying to climb that pyramid!"
Zong Yue snapped everyone out of it. They looked in the direction he indicated and indeed saw the King Worm.
It had already crawled to the edge of the array and was heading at extreme speed straight for the pyramid at the array's center.
Zhang Yi thought to himself: Could this be the secret behind its rapid growth?
"Let's go, kill it!"
Li Changgong shouted loudly.
Although they weren't clear right now what this bizarre place actually was, they had to kill the King Worm and thoroughly eliminate the threat to the Elemental Stone Vein.
But as the four of them looked around, their gazes all fell upon the apex of that black-purple pyramid.
The King Worm was desperately trying to climb up there, its target likely those six purple crystals.
Most likely, those were something good that could grant superhumans immense power.
No one present was a fool. Though they didn't say it out loud, they wouldn't easily let go of any valuable treasure.
Li Changgong was the first to act. [No Distance Within the Six Realms] allowed him to instantly cover the distance, heading straight for the King Worm.
Zhang Yi, however, wasn't in a hurry to make a move. He never liked being the first to take risks.
Moreover, this place gave him a strange, eerie feeling everywhere.
This massive pyramid looked so perfect, absolutely not some lost ruins.
Did it have guardians?
