Chapter 620: What good would goods bring, if damaged?

The two pushed against each other with all their strength, trying to get the upper hand on the other, but made no progress.

Their strengths were evenly matched!

Lillian gritted her teeth as she pushed against the Salesman’s shadow sword, while the man did the same in response.

The two knew of each other’s Tier and expected this result; that was the perk of being a Tier 3 Mage. However, what set the two apart at this moment wasn’t the difference in mana reserves or strength, but in attack potency.

The Rabbit sharpened her water blade, making the edge thinner and easier to cut into the dark edge of the Salesman’s shadow sword, shocking the man, who immediately retreated back—

SWISH!

—Just before his sword was sliced in two.

Due to the buff provided by her earring, Lillian’s water blade was far more effective in slicing compared to the Salesman’s own elemental construct. But that wasn’t the only reason why Lillian was able to slice through so easily.

’While the Darkness and the Shadow elements are extremely similar, they were still different.’

What Lillian meant by this was that the Shadow Element was just a downgrade from the Darkness element!

Its constructs were much more fragile, and its attack potency was inferior in comparison to the Darkness element.

The only thing that might make the Shadow Element more favourable compared to the Darkness element would be that it consumes much less mana to use.

The Salesman scowled as he looked at his sword.

After repairing his shadow blade, he vanished into the shadow - swiftly appearing behind Lillian and swinging.

Lillian blocked his strike and went on to clash with him several more times.

Because of their speed and ferocity, the grunts that tried to jump into the fight were eviscerated in the path of their battle.

Despite the gruesomeness, the grunts still chose to go after Lillian, trying to avoid getting near Millis, who continued to pave through.

Blood, limbs, bodies, guts and all smeared against the floor they stepped on.

By this point, Lillian’s midnight blue cloak had become rather stained in blood, but not as badly as Millis’s armour.

The grunts still tried to leap in to try and land a strike on Lillian, but always failed.

Up until now, no one had managed to land a single strike on Lillian’s figure.

She was being careful, much more careful with how she fought.

If the way she fought before was like a rabid dog with no regard for pain or injuries, then she was like an elegant bird that cared for even the slightest stain in her feathers.

Lillian weaved in between strikes, dodging back large distances, blocked every minuscule attack, and used almost everything at her disposal to prevent harm from coming her way.

Because of her large display of skill and the fact that she hadn’t even been harmed yet, a large amount of demotivation and dismoral surged throughout the minds of every enemy mage around her.

This was especially the case for the Salesman. Both he and Lillian were of the same Tier! Why was it that he could not yet land even a single strike on her?!

Although he had now been working as a salesman for a huge percentage of his life, it didn’t mean he lost all the skills he forged through his mercenary days!

Throughout this battle, and while he was touring Lillian around, he had already identified that Lillian was a woman, given the outline of her chest. Not like it was going to help him one bit.

SWISH!

Lillian slashed at the Salesman again, causing him to step back instantly to dodge. But in that brief moment of retreat, Lillian swung her other arm out - sending forth a wide, curved water blade over two metres long.

She wasn’t going to take chances in trying to knock out another Tier 3, especially when he was considered a miniboss.

She needed to kill him!

SWISH.

The curved water blade soared through the air like a bird, locked on the Salesman’s position, and quickly narrowed the gap between them.

Several thoughts and decisions flashed through the Salesman’s head within the short time he had left.

Should he dodge or should he defend?

The Salesman glanced behind him for a split second before clicking his tongue:

"Tch!"

He chose to defend.

With a flick of his wrist, he expanded his shadow in front of him before pulling it up to form a wall. Then, he braced himself.

When the curved water blade reached, it clashed with the shadow wall, struggling only for a fraction of a second before completely tearing through it.

The Salesman’s eyes widened to an astonishing degree, to the point where even his sunglasses couldn’t hide them.

’Too sharp!’ He shouted internally.

Crossing his arms over into an ’x’, he wrapped them in a thick layer of mana in preparation for the curved water blade’s arrival.

Then, he braced for impact.

SHNK...!

The curved water blade sliced through the thick layer of mana like it was just lard and cut deep into his skin and muscles - eventually reaching his bones.

But when it was just about to completely take off the Salesman’s forearms, it stopped.

Having lost most of its momentum due to the wall and layers of solid mana, it had lost a lot of its attack potency, thus leading it to crumble apart and become a small puddle on the ground.

The Salesman breathed sharply and raggedly as sweat drenched his forehead.

With his arms dropping to his sides, seriously injured, he thought:

’To think she managed to get through my defences... I’ve never heard of a water mage with this level of attack power before...’

In all of his mercenary years before becoming a salesman, he hadn’t ever fought a water mage that could deal this much damage.

If he had to rank them out of all the other natural elements, then he would rank them at the bottom. In his mind, he only met water mages who acted as support.

Sure, there were some offensive water mages he fought in the past, but none of them was able to hurt him to this degree.

Although... the situation compared to back then and now were a lot different.

There was a reason he didn’t dodge, even when he could.

Lillian, who still had her arm stretched out from her attack, looked behind the Salesman and found a tall wooden crate of goods. Because of where they were, the Salesman couldn’t afford to allow damage to occur to the products.

If anything happened to them, then he could only kiss his job goodbye.

It was because of this very reason that he had been sparing a portion of his attention on leading their battle somewhere else.

Lillian smirked outwardly.

She was an obvious threat. And yet he still had the confidence in thinking he could still win against her with all these restrictions?

This made her laugh lightly.

’Cocky bastard.’

Although Lillian thought this, she respected the effort somewhat.

The Salesman, having now almost fully healed from his wounds with the help of a healing item, watched as Lillian swung her arms again.

But this time, instead of at him—

SWISH SWISH SWISH

—She attacked the goods.

Without even time to think, the Salesman instantly absorbed himself into the shadows and leapt to intercept each curved water blade - seriously injuring himself in the process.

The thugs around them tried to intercept them as well, but failed to do so with their meagre magic.

With blood dripping across his entire body and severe injuries plaguing him, the Salesman watched as a tower of crates crumbled from Lillian’s attack.

His eyes went bloodshot as they began to flicker with light.

He then yelled angrily:

"AREN’T YOU TRYING TO ROB US?! WHY ARE YOU DAMAGING THE GOODS!?"

Lillian could only scoff at his question, stopping briefly before continuing.

Only after destroying a few more containers did she answer:

"Fuck the goods, that’s why."
