Chapter 65: CP:65 The Most Absurd Lie In History

The den Boulder led them to was carved deep into the mountain face—spacious, warm, surprisingly comfortable despite being hollowed from solid rock.

Someone had clearly prepared it in advance: a large nest of furs and soft grasses occupied one corner, a small fire pit sat in the center with stones arranged for sitting, and shelves carved into the walls held supplies—water, dried fruits, nuts, even a jar of honey.

"This is the honored guest den," Boulder explained, setting down a bundle of extra furs. "We don’t use it often, but when we do, we make sure it’s worthy of those who visit. You’ll be safe here—no one will disturb you without permission."

He paused at the entrance, his massive frame blocking most of the fading daylight.

"Word of advice," he said quietly, glancing back toward where Amber’s den would be, higher up the mountain. "The Saintess... she holds grudges. And she has influence with some of the younger warriors—males who likes her and are devoted to her. "

[ It’s saddening how such an evil girl has such dedicated followers in this world. ]

"Are you warning us she might cause trouble?" Naga asked, hood flaring slightly.

"I’m warning you to be careful," Boulder corrected.

"She won’t do anything openly—not with Chief Granite watching. But she’s clever. And when clever people feel threatened..."

He shrugged. "Just watch your backs."

"Noted," Leo said. "Thank you for the hospitality."

Boulder nodded and left, his heavy footsteps fading down the stone corridor.

The moment he was gone, Alex sagged against Naga’s side.

"That," he said emphatically, "was exhausting."

"You were magnificent," Naga said, coiling protectively around him and guiding him toward the nest. "You faced down an entire tribe, countered a jealous Saintess, and impressed a chief. All while two months pregnant with six babies."

"Six hatchlings," Alex corrected absently, settling into the furs with a grateful groan.

"System keeps calling them hatchlings."

[Because they ARE! Aren’t you a biology student? Don’t you know snake’s babies are called hatchlings? Or were you a clueless backbencher in your classes? ]

" None of your damn business. " Alex shouted in his head.

Leo was already checking the den—testing the walls, examining the entrance, making sure there were no hidden passages or weak points.

"Secure," he announced finally. "One entrance, solid stone walls, good sightlines. If anyone tries to sneak in, we’ll hear them coming."

"You think Amber would actually try something?" Alex asked.

"I think Amber is a narcissist who just got publicly rejected by the man she wanted to use for status,"

Leo said bluntly. "She’s someone who’s used to getting everything she wants and can’t stand someone getting more attention than her. "

" Tsk. Are all Saintessess like this. " He mumbled.

[Not really. Moss was different! By the way, did you SEE how Amber looked at your divine artifacts? That wasn’t just jealousy—that was WANT. Like, ’I need those to prove I’m special’ kind of want.]

"Great," Alex muttered, pressing a hand to his belly where the babies were doing their evening gymnastics. "So now I have to worry about a jealous Saintess stealing the stones."

"She won’t get the chance," Naga said firmly, settling beside him in the nest.

"We’re not leaving you alone. Not for a second. We couldn’t stay by your side in wolf tribe because that damn wolf wouldn’t let us. But things are different here. "

"I need to use the bathroom at some point," Alex pointed out.

"Then one of us goes with you," Leo said, joining them in the nest and immediately beginning to groom Alex’s hair with careful attention. "No arguments."

Alex wanted to argue—but honestly, after the day he’d had, having his overprotective mates fuss over him sounded pretty good.

[CURRENT STATUS CHECK:

Pregnancy: 24 weeks, healthy

Twins: Active and demanding

Alex’s Energy: 40% (needs rest!)

Relationship Status: Still causing romantic chaos wherever you go

Mission Progress: 3/7 stones, negotiations for #4 in progress

Complications: ONE JEALOUS SAINTESS (HIGH THREAT LEVEL)]

"System, what are the odds Amber tries something tonight?" Alex asked quietly.

[Hmm... analyzing her psychological profile and behavioral patterns...]

[ODDS: 35% she confronts you directly to "warn you away"]

[ODDS: 25% she tries to sabotage the demonstration items]

[ODDS: 20% she spreads rumors to turn the tribe against you]

[ODDS: 15% she tries to steal a divine artifact to "prove" you’re dangerous]

[ODDS: 5% she actually accepts defeat gracefully]

[That last one is basically zero, I just included it for completeness.]

"Wonderful," Alex said.

"What’s wonderful?" Leo asked, still working on a particularly stubborn knot in Alex’s hair.

"System’s giving me probability breakdowns on how Amber might try to sabotage us."

"And?" Naga prompted.

"And we should probably take shifts sleeping tonight."

They set up a watch rotation—Naga first, then Leo, then back to Naga while Alex rested through the night. It wasn’t ideal, but it was smart.

Dinner arrived an hour later, brought by young Clay—the enthusiastic bear who’d greeted them earlier. He carried a tray loaded with roasted meat, root vegetables, fresh bread, and another jar of honey.

"Chief Granite sends his regards," Clay said cheerfully, setting the tray near the fire pit. "He says to eat well and rest. Tomorrow will be busy—the whole tribe’s excited to see the demonstrations work!"

"Thank you, Clay," Alex said warmly. "Tell the chief we appreciate his hospitality."

"I will!" Clay hesitated at the entrance. "Um... can I ask you something?"

"Of course."

"Is it true that you met a dragon? A real dragon god?"

Alex: ?¿(O_o)??

" What? "

Alex’s smile tightened.

He remembered all the ’amazing’ adventure he went through when he and his mates was being chased by a dragon guardian during their heist in the lion tribe.

" Who told him about dragon? " Alex whispered to system.

[ Hmph. Your the one who was flexing about meeting a dragon when you were giving your motivational speech in front of bear tribe. One whisper of rumour and everybody thinks you met a dragon god. ]

" I did? I have no freaking idea. I was spiting whatever that comes to my mind at that time. "

[ Whatever. Not my problem. Deal with it yourself. ]

" You. "

Alex smiled at Clay who was looking at him with fascinated eyes.

"It’s true. Umm... His name is umm.... Ragnor The Ratatouille The Third... He is the umm... guardian of eastern mountains."

System burst out laughing at the name given to an innocent dragon that has nothing to do with him.

[ Hahaha.... Hahaha. Have you done mastery in bullshitting instead of your biology lessons. Hahaha. ]

" Shut up. "

"What was he like?" Clay asked. Oblivious of the most stupidest lies in history.

"Terrifying," Alex admitted. "Big. Large and terrifying. He’s always chasing us. "

This part Alex didn’t lie. They indeed got chased by a huge dragon.

"Wow," Clay breathed. "And you still managed to collect stone from him. "

"Well...Uh...Yeah. " Alex looked away.

It’s better for this young bear to not know that they’ve stolen the stone instead of a dragon happily handing them over.

"That’s so cool!" Clay grinned. "I hope Chief Granite gives you the Bronze Stone. You seem nice. Way nicer than—" He cut himself off, glancing nervously toward the upper dens.

"Than the Saintess?" Alex supplied gently.

Clay’s ears flattened. "I shouldn’t talk bad about the Saintess. She’s blessed by the ancestors and—"

"And she’s also a person," Alex interrupted kindly.

"Who has her own struggles and motivations. You don’t have to worship her, Clay. Just respect her position."

Clay looked relieved. "You’re really wise for someone so young."
